Hey all! We all seemed to miss Tuesday so here we are on Wednesday so i'll start the thread off. This is the last rewatch before the holidays arrive next week so i figured we can start this one today and it can be added to anytime now & afterwards too. Plesse feel free to add any questions you can think of for this episode 1: This episode is kinda different from the others so far. Do you think this episode was just a filler one or did this not really feel like a ML episode? It was still early on in the series so do you feel it was too corny? Or just fine with ML standards so far? Does anyone know when this one originally aired? Was it around St Patricks Days? If so it could have been done for the holiday. 2: David of course seems to wants to believe Kathleen right away with her story of being a leprechan, but not our Maddie till half way through the episode she has a change of heart, what do you think changed her mind? 3: what is your fave scene &/or fave lines from this episode Well thats all i got for now. Hope it;s good enough to start us off and then see if anyone else has any questions to add

Even though this episode might be on the hokey side, I don't think it was necessarily a filler episode either. Another layer of the Maddie/David dynamic is peeled away.
David believing in something that most people have a hard time believing...always the one who keeps the faith in what you can't see that brings happiness in your life...leprachans...higher Spiritual beings...well, I'll say it...God, he believes in God.
Maddie having doubts in what she can't see as something real, yet is persuaded...not the first or last time...into believing in something that ultimately provided happiness for someone else...sort of!! LOL!
Love the looks David gives Maddie when he tries to convince her to let lose a little and believe something that is a bit crazy. He sees her struggling with the whole concept of magic, etc. Things have to be concrete for her to grasp and believe and he breaks that bubble if just for an episode.
2: David of course seems to wants to believe Kathleen right away with her story of being a leprechaun, but not our Maddie till half way through the episode she has a change of heart, what do you think changed her mind?
I think it had a lot to do with Maddie opening her heart to Kathleen once she saw she was in trouble. She becomes captured by her innocence when she stays the night with her. And I think David had a pretty good idea that would happen when he left her at Maddie's house. I also think Maddie had a change of heart because of David's unfaltering belief in doing the right thing...helping the little leprechaun!

Thanks for getting us going, rose! 3: what is your fave scene &/or fave lines from this episode
Well, I haven't even had a chance to rewatch yet, but one of my favorite scenes is at the beginning, when David is trying to sell Maddie on AMFL. His references to e.e. cummings ("e, baby, use caps!") and Sylvia Plath are not only hilarious, but reveal another delightfully unexpected facet of his character. He may not be a Ivy-educated like some people, but he's picked up some cultural knowledge somewhere along the way!
How can you not love a guy who believes in leprechauns and can reference modernist poets! ;D

3: what is your fave scene &/or fave lines from this episode David talking 90mph about how mothers tend to nag...ickrticketyickety...something like that! And then: "Not a Mutha..a mother" ;D And Maddie sits and just stares at him, kind of speechless, behind her desk. Funny how Agnes calls Kathleen a little different!

Gosh...no new avatar from Gray!! Would THIS work? Ha! Dave says, "Swallow me Lucky Charms!" (with a better accent than Alexandra, no less) when Kathleen told him Blue Moons are signs of luck for leprechauns. Btw, my brother heard about this episode and wanted to watch it because at the time he had begun dating my sister-in-law (an Irishwoman with 12 siblings ). He said it was the WORST Irish accent he ever heard ;D.

He's another one of those misunderstood vanguard types, ya know.

"Hob, knob, snob"--LOL, witness! ;D Very true. If it won't make you all gag ( ), thought I'd share this...one of my favorites by "e, baby!"...I always think of it when I watch this episode. In addition to being a beautiful love poem, I think it perfectly describes the effect David and Maddie have on each other: somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond any experience, your eyes have their silence: in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me, or which i cannot touch because they are too near your slightest look will easily unclose me though i have closed myself as fingers, you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens (touching skilfully, mysteriously)her first rose or if your wish be to close me, i and my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly, as when the heart of this flower imagines the snow carefully everywhere descending; nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals the power of your intense fragility:whose texture compels me with the color of its countries, rendering death and forever with each breathing (i do not know what it is about you that closes and opens;only something in me understands the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses) nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands (Thanks for indulging me!

Does anyone know when this one originally aired? Was it around St Patrick's Day? If so it could have been done for the holiday. Ha...you would think, but no. This aired right before Thanksgiving in '85. Go figure. 2: David of course seems to wants to believe Kathleen right away with her story of being a leprechan, but not our Maddie till half way through the episode she has a change of heart, what do you think changed her mind? Consider Maddie's comment to David after having the all-night slumber party with Kathleen: "If there was such a thing as a leprechaun, she would be one." It's not so much that Maddie changes her beliefs, but took the time to know, appreciate and understand Kathleen better. She looked past the lunacy of the leprechaun business into a woman who not only has a pot of gold, but a heart of gold as well. And through it all, she gets Maddie to reveal some of hers. Furthermore, Maddie has David to thank for all of it. Essentially, he is responsible for all her experiences, good and bad, since the day they met. Without that, she wouldn't have the opportunity to meet a special person like Ms. Kilpatrick.

3: what is your fave scene &/or fave lines from this episode I love the opening scene between the two, especially Maddie trying to keep up, as though David is speaking Chinese. Her lines, "I don't even remember saying 'Come in' " and "I know there's a point in there somewhere" just crack me up. My favorite "chemistry" moment is when they're standing inside her front door watching Kathleen carefully polish each gold coin. After Dave says, "...think too much and it'll all go away" Maddie turns to face him. He opens the door, says, "Well, I should be, uh..." and tilts his head toward it. Maddie replies, "Yeah, you should be..." tilts her head toward it and gives him a warm smile, a gleam in her eyes. He returns the favor, a sparkle in his eyes. Delicious.
