diane, thanks so much for posting the deleted final scene. I like it and would have enjoyed seeing the episode end this way. I think it's pretty clever using rock, scissors, paper to determine the raise since that reference was used at the beginning of the episode.

bees, agree that Maddie's jewelry is very much in fashion. I wear a lot of similar pieces and would LOVE to have her collection! I have jewelry envy.

Interrupt these posts for a weather update - I have about 40 inches of snow outside my house in white-out conditions. The wind and drifts are unbelievable. I am so housebound.

lin, diane, rose, gray, et al....I hope if you're stuck, at least you're warm and cozy! And rose...hope your little guy is feeling better!
diane, thanks so much for posting all the deleted scenes, especially that last one! I always assumed this was one of those "missing epilogue" episodes--which normally would have me toying around with an imaginary ending. But this is just...perfect. I would have loved to see the look on Maddie's face when David says "profit sharing" (and the look on David's when Maddie suggests Rock Paper Scissors! ;D).
I imagine the reason they didn't include this scene was either because of time constraints, or because they didn't want Maddie and David getting too close so soon after "Witness"...ending with the punch was funny, but this scene would have rounded the whole episode out. Oh, well.

. What in your opinion makes the scene where Maddie apologizes to David so effective?
Yup i gotta agree with everyone. The lighting was perfect for this. Maddie being afraid to look David in the eye. She realizing she was wrong, wanting David to know that, and releasing him in a way to move on from Blue Moon and her cause she thinks hes got this gift. It is a terrific scene!

7. There are tons of 80s references and images in this episode. Got a favorite? Definitely the clothes, the club and well The Pet Shop Boys LOL Just an observation :This whole show through all seasons really shows it was from the 80's alot of time and then it seems like it was just made recently ,that it isnt so outdated where new fans can find this show new and fresh but yeah i love the 80s so this show takes us back to that time

1. This is the next episode after "Witness". What do you think about the continuity from that episode to this? Could the argument in the office be spurred by a little residual feelings or backlash from the previous episode? I think there are subtleties in the scene that are remnants of the previous episode. David assumes Maddie has put the " I'm the boss, I make the decisions" stronghold aside and is ready to be "charmed into things" again, thus the champagne toast. Maddie feels ill at ease discussing this professional, supervisor-employee, business-related topic with David, especially in light of the celebratory vibe. She even fears he will get mad at her? Hmmm... Maddie's honest remarks about his performance are delivered much more gingerly than ever before, yet David seems much more hurt by them than ever before. Hmmm...again.

7. There are tons of 80s references and images in this episode. Got a favorite? There are ALOT of 80's references in this one: The music..the first bar scene has a song that sounds like Madonna...but at that particular time, there were a ton of Madonna-sound-alikes. (to this day, I still can't remember the name of the song or who sings it.) The second bar scene has the Pet Shop Boys "West End Girls", which was huge at the time. Then there's Toby....the ultimate 80's chick! Her whole style....from her clothes to her big hair, she personified the 80's and that whole era. Watching this ep is like taking a trip to the 80's, especially if you grew up in them. I still remember what it looked like, what it felt like, and how much fun it was.

I think it's pretty clever using rock, scissors, paper to determine the raise since that reference was used at the beginning of the episode. lin, I agree, that would have "rounded" the ep in some way, not to say it would have been nicer to see that kinda reconciliation. I would have loved to see it, nice to see that Maddie was determined to give him the raise he wanted (and in spite of her previous anger ready to acknowledge his work), she deliberately lost the game. I love Agnes in this ep, BTW isn't she always an angel? How often did she get that bad behavior of bot David and Maddie, when they are in a bad mood and won't even bother to answer her "Good morning"! Her only comment here: "Not morning people." They should treat her better! The best lines have already been posted, I'd just like to add a few: M: "I have no idea." D: "That's ok, I got lots of'em. I'll loan you one." D: "I think I'm speechless. Oops, not exactly." (Whenever you been speechless, huh?? ) D: "You just may be the most ungrateful, most unfeeling person on the face of the planet. And if you're not, then it won't take you a lot of practice to get there!" M: "Morning." D: "Yup. Everyday at this time." LOL!!! M to sweet Agnes: "You got your let's-have-a-meaningful-conversation-face on." Agnes: "Miss Hayes, uh-oh!" M: "What uh-oh?" A: "Mr. Addison's not in yet uh-oh." M: "That's no uh-oh-news." ;D

1. This is the next episode after "Witness". What do you think about the continuity from that episode to this? Could the argument in the office be spurred by a little residual feelings or backlash from the previous episode?2. Maddie says" It did occur to me that you've never solved a case." How does that really make David feel?3. Toby enters the office after Maddie has left. How would Maddie have handled the case had Toby given her the information? 1- The continuity is a little weird - doesn't feel quite right. What makes me say this is the bit where David leaves the note when his life is in danger- and says he didn't have time to explain it...just doesn't seem right after THE KISS in the garage- he'd find a time to explain! Even if he had to turn up in her bedroom again! 2- I thought that was cold of Maddie saying he'd never solved a case and that they had just been lucky - he'd protected her and got to the heart of the matter on many occasions (I'm sounding like a David's girl here I know-but That was a low blow). 3-Hmmmm - I think maybe she would have taken the case because her moral code would have come to the surface- someone was going to be killed. Only difference being that she wouldn't have taken the con artist route- they would probably have had a slap-ban-wallop of a row over it but Maddie's sensible head would have won the day :-)

4. There are significant conversations where Agnes is the sounding board for both David and Maddie. Is this the episode that definitively establishes Agnes as the series confidant? 5. How is David different than the David of previous episodes? Clearly he is doing this to prove himself to Maddie. Would his reaction have been the same before this? 6. What in your opinion makes the scene where Maddie apologizes to David so effective?[ 4- Funny, I was thinking exactly that when I re-watched it! Yes - she really is the glue here! She sees them so separate across that gulf, those high seas - and desperately tries to be the 'note-passer' for them both. She sees their separate pain and does her best to try to glue them back together. It's also the moment where it is established that she is also a guru type figure - Ms 'Omniscient' Di Pesto! 5- Interesting one - I think David wouldn't have cared quite so much earlier on and maybe would have just had an argument with her, flinging examples of case victories at her - but this has hit him in the guts like a cold blade (she didn't just put the knife in, she wiggled it around). He has to go and prove himself - it's important to him what she thinks of him- although the old Addison enjoys the easy con job a little too much and of course it ends up having the opposite effect - he feels soooo bad when Maddie's apologising to him! 6-Which brings me to no.6 - Maddie's apology is so sincere and candid and this is something which does not come easily to her: admitting she is wrong. However, as we learn more about her character we learn that it's very important to her when she does admit her faults and accepts responsibility. So, as an audience who knows what David's been up to- we collectively cringe! He lost sight of what he was trying to do here and has got her back in a way he didn't intend.

I do like the ending when he's sprung like an old rusty bed spring! :-) 'Just my luck- they're all wearing underwear!' The chaos that follows is very amusing - with David in the middle of it all and a livid Maddie Hayes. Everyone is hitting everyone else, chairs flying, food flying...no wonder Maddie takes so long to make up her mind about him as a potential partner lmao. The punch at the end is priceless - she is one tough cookie! She did warn him in the pilot that she had a better punch than him (the sissy fighter) :-)

...and AFTER A MOMENT....DAVID looks up.....and SEES SOMETHING we don't.... DAVID (to someone we don't see): Hey Pal....that girl you're dancing wit? She's no redhead. ...and he promptly passes out...his head hitting the floor with a THUD.....and we FADE OUT lmao Diane- that's so funny! I love the bits the censors take out - naughty Glenn! :-)
