Here's my ticket: In "Take My Wife" (Season 5), Maddie and David tell each other that each had the other one figured out from the get-go. Rewatching the Pilot, do think that is true? Why or why not? Knowing what we know (the events of the next 4 years), how do you feel when you watch this very first episode? I think David might have had Maddie figured out just a little. I think he initialy thought she was cold, but as she softened up a little and then asked him if he really felt that way about her, he saw that she really didn't mean to give him that impression. This is what I percieved anyway. But, Maddie had a long ways to go figuring out who David really was! How do I feel? .....two words....warm fuzzies....okay three words....thankful.....

I have to ask...what the hell does "No Flies On You" mean??? The one thing I do remember is Glenn telling Cindy and I that he used that phrase because his wife always used it....and he didn't know what it meant either...... I think it has to do with moving quickly......a fly can't light on a moving thing.

It's pretty amazing, when I think about it, how organically Maddie and David's characters developed from this first show. We get glimpses of their strongest qualities (David's loyalty, great instincts, and romanticism; Maddie's toughness, intelligence, and soft heart) , as well as the traits that will trip them up. Glenn deserves huge, huge kudos for crafting these characters so carefully, and the whole writing staff for keeping them consistent (at least through the first three seasons).

I have one question.......is Jen drinking in a library??? OK, I'm getting dirty looks now...apparently LOL'ing is frowned upon in the "quiet section". Nope, I'm afraid I have to wait for my preferred libation--came to the library to escape the homework/car-racing/indoor hockey-playing (I am NOT kidding) chaos...so I could 'ess in peace!! ;D

While watching, I made some notes on some amazing "firsts"
First underwear joke......actually there were 3...4 if you count the "looking up your dress" comment.
First feet shots.....somebody in this group is a foot fetishist.
First time David says....."I just want to talk to you."
First celebrity guest -- Mary Hart
First time Maddie says "ADDISON!"
First time David and Maddie dance.....
First time Maddie throws something at David...
First (and I think only time) David calls Maddie "Sweetheart"
These may be a little silly.......the martini is kicking in....don't drink and type!

Hi Gray! Glad you're back! And very nice avatar, btw! ....Even started shopping for the Maddie colored jackets with shoulder pads, pumps....got my hair styled like hers...had it BAD! I was 25 years old and didn't really look seriously at what I would be doing 25 years later! HA! Can't believe we are here....right now....still talking about the show just like I did with friends and neighbors back then. Well.....maybe not exactly like back then....they were not "essed" friends!! ;D Bees, you just gave me a giggle......I had a tough time finding the polyester copies of Maddie's silks, but even with employee discount, my salary didn't cover the real thing. Also.......there was absolutely NO work ever done on Wednesday mornings.....we were too busy talking about last night's Moonlighting! Oh, thank God for polyester!! I only had two jackets, I think, and tried to wear them with everything!

I too feel a sense of nostalgia. They both seem young - it's hard to believe that the series only lasted 4 years. I think you can see the toll that the show took on them. At times, Maddie seems wide-eyed and naive. I love those moments.

Maddie's outfits on the show were just so much classier (IMHO) than the overstyled messes worn by a lot of the ladies on shows like Dynasty and Colby's etc. Yeah, she had some shoulder pads, but Cybill's tall yet athletic build meant she could pull off the look without coming across as a Jane Jetson clone.

And all the other firsts...not silly...just great great. Not silly at all, but diane...you go ahead and enjoy that special martini of yours!! "I just want to talk to you". It hit me too!! For two people that loved to talk things to death, especially Maddie at times, it's the one thing they didn't do at the end. ....but I don't wanna talk about that....

A couple more observations.....I'm on a roll....
The scene when DiPesto says goodbye to David....isn't Bruce really wonderful? The way he holds himself in that chair with his back to the camera....the picture should be in the dictionary next to depressed.
I am spacing on this.......was the word "bitch" a usual one on TV in 1985? Not sure if it caused a real stir......well, I guess it did come after "Dynasty"......
OMG...the restaurant scene...that hair, that dress, that date.....this clip should be put in an 80's time capsule! (Besides, the lobster bib was genius!).
All location shooting....yummy!
Very creepy villains........was Mohawk's acne real or a really good make-up artist?
Am i the only one who never picked up the posted notice on Maddie's door? Guess she was getting evicted. Can't believe after 25 years, you still can see something new.
Do you really think Maddie had hot dogs in her fridge? Or did the bad guys bring them along to prove their point?
Was the bar scene absolutely gorgeous? The photography is excellent...and M&D look like the two most beautiful people in the world.
At the eastern building, do you think Cybill's stunt person is a guy or a girl?
Some cool quotes:
"Poor doesn't become me"
About the doctor's bikini underwear......."Tell me you're in a position to know and break my heart forever"
"You need me to live, lady"
"Duress"
"You missed the barn."
"ball of fluff/ Sissy fighter"
"the plot thinnens" ...(this is my favorite, I use it often)
I am glad we did this....what a swell party this is!!

Great point, gray. In this ep, she rocks that black and white dress--even with those horrible sleeves and the sidecar of curls--and that lavender peignor set. She looks gorgeous, but strong at the same time, unlike the brittle-looking (IMO) Carrington women.
