MY ticket: Point out one of the things that is (that are??) DIFFERENT between the pilot and the series. The cinematography is different. Michael D. Margulies had a grittier style and hard lighting, which suited the pilot's dark storyline. As we all know, Gerry Finnerman's work was glorious, vibrant, filtered...

Some things I noticed: 2. NO BIMMER! (boo!) Wow, gray, I had to hightail it back to the TV and watch the drive-and-talk/finding-Slow-Talkin'-Man-dead-in-the-back-seat scenes again! They never quite show the actual vehicle but it looks like her Jag. So right you are, gray! All this time I assumed it was our beloved Bimmer.

One more thing....I know it's kinda picky, and I apologize, but Maddie's proper name is a pet peeve of mine. It is Madolyn.......spelled that way in all the scripts. You can also see it spelled that way on an envelope in one of the episodes...totally slips my mind which one....maybe somebody can help there? It is an odd way to spell it, and not in my opinion, the prettiest spelling, but gotta go with the authenticity. It's funny you mention this, diane, because I remember seeing that envelope...in Tracks of My Tears, btw. But then, in "The Moonlighting Phenomenon" when Cybill is interviewed, the caption reads, "Madelyn Hayes." I guess that's one of many benefits of owning scripts. I think "Madeline" is the most lovely. Yes, I do remember that now. When the DVDs came out, we pointed it out to the company that did the DVD extras, but what was done was done. :-( I would choose Madeline myself if I had my druthers.

Regarding the spelling of Maddie's name, don't we see it on the box of baby books delivered to Maddie at her parents' house?

I like that spelling as well. What about the box of childbirth books she receives from David while in Chicago? Do they show her name then? Seems like I remember her looking at it, but don't remember if the viewer gets a close up or not. Sort of trivial, I know, but as Alex would say....odd!

Finnerman made our two kids look fabulous!! And from the interview on the TV archive he seemed to really care about what they looked like.

We were voicing our preference. Everything I have seen in scripts and in the show showed Madolyn.

I think Maddie falls in love with David during "Atlas Belched". I'm not sure that she knows it at that point, but in my eyes, that is the time when she starts to know that she can't live without him in her life, and would risk all that she has to make that happen. In my opinion the seminal moment that led up to that point in Atlas Belched happens in the pilot. Specifically, just before Maddie exits the bar, she shrugs and says, "See ya later" with downcast eyes. I sense Maddie's disappointment because to her it seems Dave is letting her go. He's not following her out of the bar or trying to convince her to stay. Therefore, she's left without a reason to be near him. I believe that even if Dave hadn't stolen the watch from her, Maddie would have found a way back on her own. Because that need to be close to David and have him in her life is what drives Maddie and what plays out so wonderfully in Atlas Belched. In the pilot, Maddie turns as she is leaving and says, "...I did have fun. Tons of fun." In Atlas, David turns as he is leaving and says, "I had a good time." Maddie replies: "Me too." And there ya have it.

WOW! I am so glad I FINALLY got proboards to send me my password so I could logon here and join in the celebration. Sorry. Diane told me what was happening on here and I have tried for several days to come post...but it seems I forgot my password and when I asked proboards to send it, the email would NEVER arrive. Finally I discussed this with my email provider and found out my spam filter was catching the email, so I had this board's email added to the whitelist...waited about 24 hours and VIOLA'! (not Viola as in Bert) I finally got the email and can log on.
Anyway what I wanted to say was I cannot believe it has been 25 years. Boy that mkes me feel so old. Here are a couple of my fav scenes in The Pilot (of course) the sweet dance in the bar, when D&M discover the dead guy in the back seat of her car and she screams and literally jumps in David's arms, and the scene in the restaurant culiminating with the Mohawk guy trying to put the watch on Maddie's wrist.
I remember the first time I saw the episode 25 years ago, I just fell in love with the show and the characters right then and there and promised myself, I would never miss an episode. I also proceeded to tell anyone who would listen how great the show was and how they needed to check it out.
So glad you guys are still digging the show after all these years. Quality never goes out of style!

Yay, Cindy's back! ;D Re: the Name Spelling Preference , I'd have to go Frenchy and pick Madeleine, though I'm not sure that fits our Maddie quite as well. Oh, and IMDb has her name misspelled too ("Madelyn")...tsk, tsk.

One more "first" that I don't think has been mentioned...first Agnes rhyme!! ;D
IMO, Agnes is a perfect example of how to communicate a lot about a character very succinctly (she's only in 2 scenes, I think). We see the ditzy facade that hides her perceptiveness, her awe of Maddie, her willingness to be a team player (who else would stand there, with that pail on their head, for more that 1/10th of a second?), and her loyalty to David, which always brings out the very best in him.
Great great, indeed!

In 1985 i was 15 years old, a freshman in high school. Little did i know when i tuned in to watch the pilot that 25 years later i would still be so obsessed with this show! I fell for Bruce i think the minute i saw him and Cybill was just so beautiful ,they quickly became my fave Actor/Actress and still are to this day! There has never been another tv show like it and i believe there never will! I remember in my sophmore year there was this woman teacher who loved the show and we would talk about it each weelk. I even remember lending her my Moonlighting Magic book to read once back then and yes i still have the book AHHH 25 years? I can't beleive it! Still seems like yesterday i was enjoying this new show! PS: Hey Cindy! Nice to see you here!

The name spelling is very interesting to me because I have a unique name which gets spelled wrong constantly: Wimberly gets turned into Kimberly, Whimberly, Wimbley, Winberg, etc. I always thought it was Madeline but TV guide and the scripts would list Madolyn. Seriously, it drove me crazy. I always wanted to see her write it out like we saw David write his name in Witness. And I always thought "No flies on you" meant (in a very sarcastic way) that the person you are talking to is not dead (with flies swarming on a stinky dead body) and actually keeping up with how things are progressing. That makes sense in the context it was used. I am sure this is how it was meant and I have used this on my husband many times

Ok, here's my first post on the pilot (as Hazel told me "read and post, read and post") As to the name spelling: odd enough, in the english subtitles it's always spelled "Madelyn"?! My favorite scene is clearly the dance in the bar. Fav quote: "I love it when you beg!" And in general: looking at the eps to come, in the pilot they talk sooooooooo slowly! Having great-great fun here! Thanky folks!
