Hey all! I figured i would open up the thread for this episode. Seems kinds quiet around here. If anyone is around & has 1 or more questions please feel free to start us off and hopefully others may pop up if not today but tomorrow or whenever they can. Summertime seems to be hard to pin alot of us down i think. I myslef am just finishing up dinner dishes & then off to put my boys to bed. I don't have a question to submit yet but i will later. But i can share the title name from what i read somewhere is based on a movie called Those LIps Those EYes which starred my UNcle (hope i'm right). I was very young when it came out & I don't think i ever saw it so i don't know if the storyline is similiar at all. Well lets get started !

OK, This episode had a different feel to me, all around. I wonder..how much of this was in response to the change to Sunday at 8 vs their normal later Tuesday start? OK, for MY secret and what it has to do with this episode, I present the following evidence... I have no idea how to make this any bigger...open up to hints gang...

Ok..I am feeling bad! I didn't rewatch, but I stopped packing to ask a question...actually 2.
1. I once remarked that this episode should be called "Recycled". What things do you see that seem to be hoisted from previous ML episodes? Is that a good or a bad thing?
2. After David's bad experience with telling his father about HIS fiance's past...what do you think makes him do the same exact thing to/for Richie? Does he have a death wish?

Before I start......my dear Gray...don't you look lovely tonight!!! But your "friend" lacks a certain....shall we say "Maddie-esque" quality? I am not sure this was an issue with the Sunday move as much as writer's who clearly didn't have a grasp of what they were doing. Seems like the watched some old episodes, and grabbed some pieces out of them that end up being clearly out of context, and just plain wrong. I WOULD like to know out of whose addled brain came the ridiculous mantra: "Dave's afraid of intimacy".

1. I once remarked that this episode should be called "Recycled". What things do you see that seem to be hoisted from previous ML episodes? Is that a good or a bad thing? Well, I don't think there were as many scenes blatantly redone as Color of Maddie, but there was enough to give you a sense of deja vu for certain. The fights between Dave and Richie, and Maddie trying to intervene. Agnes and Bert molesting each other at work. Maddie and Richie dancing. And as you said, Dave having to tell a close family member that their betrothed may not be all they seem. There may be more, but I am still distracted by the girl who came to David's door...yeoowza! OK, maybe one more thing that sticks out as a rehash. Maddie giving David, I mean Richie a backrub smacks of her confession to Sam, I mean David in IACM. There are other bits as well, but I have to leave some for the rest of the crew.

OK, my secret is out....that is ME on the box. The LEFT one, of course. I paid for college partially by doing the modeling gig. Made a LOT of money that all went to tuition and books and beer and Donkey Kong. And while Zimm Zamm was big in the '80s, this photo was taken in the late '70s. The gal on the right was Miss Pennsylvania or something like that. A real cutie. I loved those jobs....

Awesome picture Gray! You know the saying: if you were famous for anything in the 80s you will never be unfamous - ever. This episode had potential but of course, true to the 5th season, disappointed. The Elvis song made it a tiny bit special for me. I always like Richie episodes and enjoy his and Maddie's brother/sister like relationship. She and David appear like a couple but the writers keep them at this awkward, uncomfortable arm's length. It seems David wasn't gung ho about his brother's relationship probably because he was still bitter about his and Maddie's confusing, unresolved one. Unlike his father's engagement which David was initially thrilled about, he probably looked forward to busting Richie's up. Diane- you are so right about that stupid 'intimacy mantra'. That was as far off as 'that's why it didn't work Maddie, we talked it to death' in Perfetc. I swear I think they used writers from other ABC shows to save $$ in the final season. Nothing made sense.

I am loving Gray as our own personal coverboy...well I guess if we can pry him away from Miss Pennsylvania...and Mrs. Gray, of course!!

Thanks for the compliments gang!
The modeling scene in the episode really wasn't that far off. When I did print, they always just had us go from pose to pose while they took hundreds of photos...all film back then. Film was cheap, and they did NOT want to call you back if none of them fit the bill.
I started doing print and later wound up doing a bunch of commercials and industrial films. You made a good deal more cash with speaking parts on TV versus just photoshoots.
I was always the "student" or the "young employee". Some were newspaper advertisements, others were the big catalogs you used to get. Many were regional TV ads but a few went national. Golly, I bet most of the places have been absorbed by other companies or went out of business by now. Gimbels, Montgomery Ward, Sun Drugs, Arby's, Sheraton Inns, Roeffler Hair Products....after I enlisted I was even on billboards across the country for the National Guard!
Ah, but I remained anonymous...until now! Hah!
