I noticed tonight that the background music throughout all the Mr. Hirsch stuff is the theme from Hitchcock's "Vertigo"....but I don't get the connection, plot-wise. Any thoughts?

Both plots hinge upon someone impersonating someone who has been murdered (in order to obscure the fact of that murder). The connections are not all that precise, but Roy Hirsch has that much in common with Madeleine Elster - each of these names is used by someone pretending to be that person after the original owner of the name is dead (or on the way to being so). Good catch on the use of the "Vertigo" theme music.
