7. Rate the chase.........love it, hate it, or who cares?
Well, it was ridiculous, definitely...and the artist's reaction totally laughable and contrived, though a funny commentary on the state of modern art at the time. But it doesn't raise my hackles as much as the balloon farce, which came on the end of an episode that needed a lot more gravitas. At least the tone of this one was pretty light from beginning to end.

5. Curtis does another great turn here as the Monseigneur, maybe one of his best....love the blue plastic rosary beads around his neck. What is your all time favorite Bert scene?
It is so very hard to pick an all time favorite. All of Curtis' work was phenomenal, especially in Season 4, but then I remember Blonde on Blonde - working with David on his first field assignment trailing Maddie, OR Sam and Dave - his Yuban-induced ramblings about the stake-out at the hotel, confiding in David about leaving Metropolis with the waitress, OR Atomic Shakespeare...and then his Marilyn Monroe imititation in Maddie Hayes Gets Married, as well as those other episodes already mentioned...and on and on....
I guess it is impossible for me to pick, because his body of work is awesome.

2. Do people really look for fame as what they leave for their legacy? Do you find that David's motives in this episode ring true?I don't believe that most people seek fame as a legacy. I think people are more grounded than that and seek love, family, good works, compassion, etc. That said, David's motives ring true for me in this episode. I don't think that it is something that he has been dwelling on, but given this opportunity, he suddenly decides to grab the brass ring. I think that Maddie's fame has something to do with it as well. Maybe he is slightly jealous or feels the need to compete, to be equal to her, not just a "nobody". Wow, lin, you're saving me a lot of typing tonight! Agree that David just sees an opportunity--not just for himself, but the agency as well, which is a theme we've seen since "Next Murder You Hear."

In some ways, I see this whole talk about fame as a way to remind us where Maddie came from....a Hollywood celebrity-type that landed in a broke detective agency with a nobody detective named David Addison. As if fire and ice never can mix, or the mere fact that Maddie came from where she came from and David came from where he came from and the rest was, as they say...kismet. Yet, I do agree that David saw an opportunity to make some dough for Blue Moon and pursued it relentlessly....just like since "The Next Murder You Hear" or maybe from the day she stepped into his office.

3. Is the name on David's bowling shirt really "Twinkle"? Anybody have a clue as to why?I bet it has to do with Twinkle Toes Flintstone!

I guess we all look to different things. David doesn't have any offspring to carry on the Addison lineage, so I could see where he would consider something else, much like the burgler. Fame, especially eternal notoriety, does have a certain allure.

Do you buy this new, laid-back Maddie? Has she really changed...or do the writers just not know her character as it was in seasons 1-3?
Jen, sometimes I just don't know what to think. At the end of Season 4, The Flesh Was Made Word, Maddie pursues David and they seem to agree to move forward in their relationship, almost taking tentative baby steps. Maddie seems to have accepted David as he is. In Season 5, Maddie continues to profess that she has accepted him and is not going to get mad any more. So, then, is this new Maddie a natural progression? Is that why she is able to graduate from her shrink? Part of me believes that she could no longer be the Maddie of Seasons 1 - 3 because David has changed her. I think that we might have embraced the concept more if Maddie and David were together as a couple.

This is indeed one of his best episodes. Just the right amount of Bert at the proper times. I have to agree though..."You knocked up the Boss" is his shining moment.

That was the explanation I came up with, Gray........we folks of a certain age can remember watching the first run Flintstone episodes while wearing our Dr. Dentons!
