Brave indeed Snappy Sara! I stopped at Perfetc on my last re-watch and am currently happy in the goofy world of series 1! ;-) It too breaks my heart to watch these last episodes- which is why Sandra and I have re-written them! It has been good for our souls to put those episodes to rest. We hope that our versions of the characters are more true to form - the old M and D are back in town.
Are you braving it all the way to LE? XXXX

@ bluemoonshampoo (and Sandra) (I can't seem to quote properly for some reason) I haven't yet read your re-writes but will get round to it soon. It will probably take me all summer but I am sure your ending will help me get over me heartache I can't face Lunar Eclipse this week. Maybe when I have had a few glasses of wine it won't seem so bad. Snap x

Finally braved this episode again...oh it's so sad! I also really don't get it...and that's not something that I say very often that's for sure. I really don't understand what they're both thinking (is that just a case of bad writing?) - I mean, it's horrid the way D tries to get rid of M to Chicago of all places and she turns round and suggests he take Annie somewhere nice - argh and then admits she's desperate... and then there's the moment where he kisses her on the forehead and calls her partner and she replies 'partner hey?' in a - I know that's bull tone... Do you think this is her admitting that pals/partners is a bed she made that she doesn't want to sleep in now? They exchange such a lovely look and then he just leaves her in the house alone amongst all the debris...oh and then we are left with the parting scene of her asking for hotel room for one 'just me'. How miserable is that? Oh and one more thing- what's the relevance of the cooking classes? Please don't tell me it's her way of saying she's accepted to that she's moving on alone and needs to take care of herself more... someone jump in and save me and tell me a good thing about them in this episode. Please? xxxx

I know Bluemoonshampoo ...it hurts! Don't forget the timing of this episode and the behind the scenes things that were going on with the show. They had already been given their walking papers, I think, and supposedly...I like to believe, anyway....they were going to rap the Annie arc up with Annie out of the picture and some sort of understanding between M and D. "Perfetc" was supposedly going to be the last ep of season 5... Them flying off to Paris...but, the show got the ax, writers changed hands a few times,,etc....and we were left with Eine Kline and Lunar. Personally, I like the short conversation amongst the debris because there does appear to be a glimmer of their old selves. The cooking class is merely Maddie trying to move on, but does it look like its working for her? And the hotel scene at the end...remember who brings her there and would probably like to stay, take her out?.... She says "no, just me" as an acknowledgment that she really doesn't want anyone if it's not David, but he seems preoccupied....

I hate the way she doesn't let David in her house! This episode is heart wrenching to watch. I've been watching Season 3 and you can see how crazy they were about each other and then we are left with this! The only hope I see is that David seems to be a bit jealous of Detective Donavan. Also, the way Maddie looks after David after he kisses her on the forehead and turns to leave is filled with so much regret. I think she wants him back and maybe if she stopped telling him how worried she is about Annie he would have notices. I also thinks Maddie is being sarcastic when she says desperate women do desperate things or whatever she says! We loved David and MAddie falling in love..not out of love!

Thanks for making me sad thinking of this horrid episode. Why does David furnish his apartment for Annie but never thought to do it for Maddie even though he knew his empty apartment bothered her? I keep thinking of the line that was not filmed in WGC; David telling MAddie as they are dancing that he just woke up and the fever was broken or something like that...Does that mean he isn't attracted to her anymore (not hot etc). Maddie did make her bed with all the crap she pulled on David and that's another thing after watching how much she seemed to love him in BMOM it is difficult to match that woman with the pact/pal nut that she becomes. This episode is even worse that WGC.

Thanks Bees- you found some shiny stuff in there, I appreciated that! Yes and it's good to remember that the last ep was meant to me perfetc- forgot about that. It really does make it clear; these episodes feel so tagged on and that now makes more sense. They were heading somewhere until WGC: dark waters indeed.
Ps sorry for making you sad Iluvdavid! You're right- M does deliver that line with sarcasm but I didn't like to admit it as it sends more mixed messages about her feelings.
Ar well - thank goodness for fanfic xxxx

Good Bluemoonshampoo! Hope you feel better now. A smart friend once said to me: The thing that is brilliant about Moonlighting is it's written with the savvy viewer in mind with the hope that they will read between the lines of clever dialog and visual nuances. And in turn, they will grow to understand it's characters on an entirely different level than the casual viewer. ....maybe not an exact quote.....

Almost six years later, bees, I'm going to answer the questions! lol
No, he is not looking for anything long term with Annie! He's just enjoying "female company." David's been going around and around in circles with Maddie for five years and she's calling him a degenerate again. How much can a guy take?? The fact that Annie is Maddie's cousin means that David is getting back at Maddie. Hurting her this way might not have been his main intention but it's a part of it.
Maddie is moving on for the most part. She still has feelings for David but she's not letting that get in the way of moving past the situation. David is the one acting a little over-the-top with either hostility or unbelievable indifference towards Maddie; and unbelievable lovey-dovey nonsense with a complete stranger (Annie.)
I have no idea, but I bet if I go back and read this thread, I'll find that someone summed it up nicely!

Here are a few other observations/comments:
When Maddie is running from the killer, why does she get out of the car with which she could have driven away to safety but instead nearly loses her life by running to the elevator that almost didn't open in time??? That was nuts.
Annie is nauseating in this episode particularly for the fact that she says she doesn't even feel guilty about not feeling guilty about cheating on her husband Mark. Seriously? Mark certainly picked the short end of the stick when he picked her for a wife!
So wait...David's been in love with Maddie for several years. They finally spend a month together (kinda). Yet during all that time he doesn't so much as buy a welcome mat for that bare, unlived in-looking apartment of his. But he knows Maddie's cousin two days and he darn near buys the biggest couch he could find (with plastic covering, no less) just because she's staying temporarily at his place? So he was inspired to do this by a complete stranger but not by the love of his life? Get the heck outta here! Who wrote this nonsense into the script?
David tells Annie he doesn't have anything to apologize to Maddie for. What??? How about for sleeping with your ex-lover and current business partner's married cousin , you jerk. Also how is Annie trying to come off as the sympathetic one in all this? Throughout her arc she goes on and on about not wanting to cause Maddie any discomfort by getting familiar with David even while she's shamelessly doing just that. How about she deal with her marriage on the east coast and stop sleeping with a man her cousin is involved with on the west? Stop acting like an immature child and go home! Just a thought.
Question - Was Maddie somehow getting in a dig at David by sending flowers to Annie at his apartment? Why not invite Annie out again and give them to her during the meal? Or better yet, don't give her anything because she doesn't deserve it!
I have more but I'll stop here. Stay tuned!

I think we can all agree that Annie served as a catalyst to invoke reactions from everyone.....viewers, Maddie, Wobblies, Agnes. Funny how those reactions were/are very similar. Even David's eventually.
As far as David's apartment.....Maddie frowned upon it once. Didn't Terri do the same? Probably, even if we weren't privy to it....lol. So, he spiffs it up with Annie because she acts like its nothing when really it is. Everything David does in the Annie arc is solely to make Maddie jealous and get attention.
And to make us want to scratch her eyes out!

And to make us want to scratch her eyes out! The Dave out-of-characterness was so horrifying by this point - he went from cynical and bitter to downright mean in the blink of an eye. The couch (and all the bloody pillows) was totally a symbol of that for me, like "Oh, Dave's just gone now. Bye." I could have bought the fact that he was trying to make M jealous, if he didn't go at it with such gusto - as in his nasty attitude towards M. I was convinced at the time that any attention from M would have perked him up, put back a little of the ol Dave sparkle - if he suspected he still had a chance based on M's reaction. Mostly I was just scratching my eyes out. I wish we knew how they would have resolved this.

This is a tad late but - Happy New Year, manitobadesigner, beesnbears and whoever else is lurking! I'm with you on this, manitoba. Dave was gone by then. His and Maddie's relationship was just so uncomfortable to watch at this point. It really is too bad the show wasn't given time to resolve this. Honestly, I don't think that those who were in charge of the telling the story would have come through for David and Maddie - or us long-suffering fans.

I wish there was an post alert function on this site. Long-suffering is right! It was like needles in the eyes. I also think that Dave was even farther gone than Maddie was at this point, she was basically still herself, but more cartoonish. Me neither, once the characters were lost, it could never be recaptured anyway. Such sadness.

Hello both of you! First of all, I noticed some time ago watching Designated Survivor that Annie (Virginia Masden)is still acting : she plays Speaker Hookstratten in that show...time flies by...
However, I must say that I don't understand the point of showing the audience the growing intimacy between David and Annie. It's everything that was suggested between David and Maddie that made the magic of their relationship. How could the writers imagine that showing the "real life" of David and Annie could be interesting. There is no way we could believe he could be jealous after seeing him so naturally happy with another woman.
Season 5 may have been sad if the producers wanted to end the show, but they didn't have to make it ridiculous (I think:))
