I simply can't forgive Dennis Dugan for opening this episode with 'that', 'that' horrible scene! Shame on him...I know he's gone on to direct some really good, really funny films- but I can't help thinking of LE whenever I see his name attached to a movie grrrr :-) x

[quote author=bluemoonshampoo I think if I dare to tread the Series 5 path again, I will stop at Perfetc and imagine them going off to Paris together! The Annie arc is like a total stranger to Moonlighting- it sticks out like something badly pasted on to a work of art - like someone glued arms on the Venus De Milo :-O Love to you all BlueMooners. Gotta agree here on the Paris thing. That was the last epi I really enjoyed because they brought in Annie after...errr... I wish they never brought her on. I'm sorry, but, I just DON'T want her with Maddie's David. No, no, no...However, it was sweet how he was checking in on Maddie in the next epi...Back to Lunar Eclipse: I feel cheated out of my D&M!

It is just cruel. I always get the feeling that Dennis Dugan just demonstrates a very bad knowledge of the characters, because "that" what he's done is beyond my understanding... And what I really, really hate about "that" scene is that they use the same bedclothes that they used in Maddie&David's bedroom scenes - grrrrrrrrr

See you on there? xxx BMS, I think they wanted to make us . LOL I know, I really expected more of the last episode. What a let down. But, I take it as it is. There are some good scenes. I just wish it had ended differently, probably like most of us here. That's why a D&M reunion is SO, SO important to me! It's like they left us hanging. It isn't one of my favs, though. Ha, I never thought I'd be commenting in this thread. Rant over. Yeah, I just finished "A Trip To the Moon"... Poor David.

I have always felt that the opening scene with Annie and David should have been the scene between Maddie and David in series 3 after the big bang. I love this scene and David is so tender and caring but hate the fact that it is Annie. We all needed to see Maddie and David together like that. We all loved them and wanted them to be happy. I understand that to keep the audience coming back there needed to be arguments and sparks flying and sexual tension but we grew to love them so much that actually what the real fans wanted was just to see them together - and a lot could have been done with that. I don't know who wrote those last episodes but some of the writers were the same and whilst Caron was no longer in the driving seat Jay Daniel was still there and should have known how to uphold the values of what these two peoples characters meant to each other. I found it weird on the DVD commentary when even Bruce says that he finds the episodes funny (I think it was the I see England I see France episode) and that the cases were good. Even he doesn't seem to understand that without the banter that we all love and without their relationship moving forward the show loses what it once held so special. No-one cared about the cases. We cared about the characters. Some of the best episodes do not have cases (Big Man/ Every Daughters Father/Maddies turn to cry etc) It would be wonderful to see Moonlighting the movie written by Glen and to have the happy ending that we all so desire but it needed to have been done 10 years ago when Cybill and Bruce still resembled David and Maddie. I can''t bring myself to watch series 4 or 5 anymore. I hate the part where Maddie is sitting on his bed and Annie walks in. When he tells her to get out of his bed and she says she has no interest in being there it is just so awful that I have decided not to watch it anymore. I loved watching them fall in love and have to imagine a happy ending for them or else all of the previous series make no sense.

Wow, snap, I second every word of your post. I haven't watched season 5, and I won't, no matter how many cute scenes there might be in - it's simply not them any more.

Here's a silly question: If the last several minutes of the episode were redone, and Maddie and David had gotten back together on some level, do you think we would still be as passionate about this show...or is part of our desire to "keep the flame burning" the feeling that the candle was blown out too soon? I kind of think the way they did the last scene of the Soprano's was masterful. It left it up to you, the viewer to decide which way things turned out. ML, unfortunately, decided to crush us.

There were so many possibilities at the end of season 4....even after "Womb with a View"...and where the show ended up (especially that opening scene) does feel like a betrayal of everything the writers hinted and promised and prepared for. That said, to those of you who haven't seen Season 5, or the Annie Arc, yet...I really encourage you to give it a try. Like it or lump it, it is a part of the show that we love, and I think watching those episodes deepens your appreciation for what came before. (And there are moments here and there where the show captures some of its former glory.) LE is definitely my least favorite episode, and I certainly don't prescribe watching it regularly (or even more than once!)...but it's only about 43 minutes of your life, and then you can take two aspirin and go right back to the Pilot. Or, if you prefer, head on over to Virtual Season Six and see how it should've been done.

You're surely right, Jen, it definitely is a part of the show, and we all have to accept it, but I don't think refusing to go through S 5 means that somebody loves the show less than those who are brave enough to do it (maybe it just means that we're chicken...). And it's certainly not necessary for me to chew on the sole of a shoe to appreciate the delicious taste of a fine, bloody t-bone-steak... I just think the few moments that there might be can't make up for the bad stuff and the pain. Just MHO of course

Sandra, I'm like you, there are just some episodes or scenes that I never want to see again - much too painful. I'd rather just go back to the Pilot...or like Jen said, go to the world of fan fic...LOL

Whenever I watch Season 5 and Lunar Eclipse a multitude of emotions gather in the pit of my stomach...anger...sadness...desperation...confusion...shock. But, never hopelessness. I don't like watching some of the episodes anymore than any of the rest of you people. However, I've always felt that in order to really understand David and Maddie the events of that season, particularly the Annie Arc , needs to be studied. I don't mean watching over and over ad nauseum. Instead, taking it all in and accepting it for what it is. And the way I always find a place for acceptance in my heart is by the very last scene in Lunar Eclipse. How can you not trust Ray Charles?

I just wish they could have wanted to get married because they WANTED to and didn't act like they were just "pals" needing to do it to please the audience one last time. I know they never get married, because the priest can tell that it wouldn't be because they were "into each other" anymore...It would be to appease the audience (us). If it was meaningful, like a nice proposal by David and wedding because they are totally in LOVE with each other than ok, I'm okay with all events and seasons leading up to THAT moment. But, they let me down to tell you the truth. The characters didn't "act" like they loved each other romantically anymore. This is just my opinion. If I am missing something, please tell me.
