What a bizzare, almost surreal evening at the ballpark!
Got a last minute ticket......Cliff was pitching...a no brainer as to whether I was going to go, huh?
First hint that it was going to be a strange night -- Cliff threw 34 pitches in the first inning! He got out of it....left bases loaded. Pulled it back together and pitched 7 innings, but because of the 1st, seemed like he was trying to catch up all night -- behind in counts and not really as sharp as we have seen him.
Game very close all night.....Mets got a run in the 5th...Phils came back to tie it in the 8th.
Then on to the ninth -- the whole stadium just started to murmur.......and all of a sudden everyone seemed to be checking their phones (don't ever underestimate the power of social media...twitter and facebook took over the crowd.) The crowd started chanting USA, and as the word quickly spread of the death of Bin Laden...the entire crowd was on its feet and cheering. The poor players had no clue as to what was going on -- there was no announcement made.....had to be a very strange feeling for them.
So, as almost an anticlimax...the game went into extra innings -- 5 extra to be exact! And remember, this game didn't start till 8:10, so it was actually Monday when the 11th started. (Scoreboard people played a bunch of good "after midnight" songs!) The Mets went ahead in the top of the 14th. Good news -- when you go 14 innings, you get another stretch.....7th inning stretch times 2, I guess. The bad news......when you have nobody left on the bench who isn't injured, your best hitting pitcher is now your pinch hitter -- poor Cole! The guys went down without much fight in the bottom of the 14th.
This is going to be one of those moments that I will definitely remember where I was and what I was doing when I got the news.
So Jen and Bees...we collectively were 0 for 3 in the baseball department......but top of the heap in US pride! I miss Gray tonight! Hope he is safe and well....and knows we appreciate him!

Saw poor Cliff on ESPN today....looked like a sad puppy. Don't worry, he'll probably get it together just in time next week around Friday or Saturday..... Maybe the Rangers will have their outfield back!!

Always.........
was a great game.......both CJ and Roy pitched beautifully......Phils only had four hits -- just lucky two of them were homers!
Tomorrow night....the rematch! Cliff on the mound!

Yep, it was a good day--Matty Cain KO'd 11 in a complete game...always like to see that, and we ended up taking 2 of 3 from the Nats, who shut us down last time.
And Brandon Crawford...oh, my! ;D
