There's something that came to mind as I watched certain episodes and thought back over some interesting plot points. During the whole run of the show, David gets into a few different physical battles. (I'm not talking verbal arguments.) Does anyone recall if he ever actually won any of these? From the melee in the pilot, which ends with the criminals leaving if I remember correctly; to the brawl with Richard, which I think the other man won, or is at best a draw; to the rip-and-tear incident with Sam in the garage, I honestly can't think of one instance where our man emerged the victor. (Poor sonofagun... ) Just wondering if anybody else has ever gone over this. Thanks.

Taking a moment to think about this...
I don't believe he did either....Most of the time, they 'caught the bad guy' during a silly chase scene, Laurel and Hardy style, Keystone Cops...they were not very many times, other than what you mentioned that he actually had an actual physical fight with a suspect or anyone else.

Good question this one, I'm thinking through the "bad guy captures" - The Next Murder You Hear Sonny gets electrocuted so you can't say David won that fight......The murder's In The Mail I have a feeling Maddie actually catches the bad guy pre-food fight sequence.... erm....Twas The Ep Before Xmas they are rescued by the Three Kings...poor old Dave gets a dunking by the bad guy in Brother Can You Spare A Blonde and doesn't really manage to fight back... ok so when David DOES get bad guy it tends to be after a silly chase (I'm thinking hot air balloon/bed-bouncing/paint throwing scenes). ;D Although can we count the end of My Fair David as him winning a fight? Nah! He jokes around to fool the woman... oh dave we still love you!

What about Every Daughter's Father is a Virgin? That one is left to much ambiguity. When he walks into the office dressed as a priest. He obviously go into a fight, and he was left alive, but with a big bruise. Who knows about that one.

Aha! I found one where he actually wins! I was just watching The Son Also Rises, and at the wedding, David slugs his brother Richard for the right to carry the ring and be the best man. You can see a very embarrassed Richard, nasty bruise all over his face, as he goes to sit down again. Congratulations! I think!... Wait a minute, that's really wrong. Oh, it's funny anyway. ;D

Yeah, it sounds like it was pretty swift work, too--from the two of them arguing about the ring, it cuts to an off-screen shot. I think you hear one punch, then "Oww!", and David walks out to make his excuse to his father; then his brother has to sneak back to his seat, next to Maddie, to whom he pleads for a little sympathy. She isn't too happy about it, but in any event there isn't time, as everyone has to carry on like things were normal! ;D Your brother is always entitled to beat you up. I should know, I had one.

Hmm, interesting. Strictly speaking, though, that's not Dave.
