This game is too thrilling, it keeps me coming back I don't like it when David goes to the hotel to talk to Jillian in Knowing her. (I can understand why he did it - tie up loose ends, close that chapter - and I don't blame him for it, but I really don't like it). I don't like Maddie when she clearly shows her surprise about the fact that David knows who Paul Gauguin is in Portrait of Maddie (as well as on several other occasions when she shows kind of a superior attitude to dumb David whereas he has proved many times that he is neither dumb nor illiterate, despite of his flippant manners). I really love Maddie in the final scene of Lady in the Iron Mask, when Agnes asks David "Are you gonna leave us?" and Maddie appears in the doorway and chimes in very seriously and sincerely: "I hope not." Golden-hearted Maddie at her best. Just adorable. I love Maddie when she comes up with the idea to send Agnes to the annual PI ball in North by North DiPesto to cheer her up on a day when she really needs it and when she does her best to make her look pretty - her golden heart again. I love David when, in the same episode, he shows genuine joy for Agnes that she has met a guy, "facial hair and everything", and in that moment when he gives her that little affectionate wink. I love David when, at the end of In God we strongly suspect, he tells Maddie that has "put in a good word" for her with "the big guy" and then, saying good night, blows her a kiss in his very special way - not actually blowing it but just touching two fingers to his lips. Perfect.

Perfect. Doesn't he do the same thing in "Big Man on Mulberry Street" in the scene where he comes back to his hotel room and he checks on Maddie, who is asleep? It's kind of sweet. Oddly enough, or perhaps fittingly (I guess), none of Maddie's or David's romantic interests really bother me, except Annie. (But not because she is with David, whereas I think David should be with Maddie, I dislike her because she uses Maddie in her slimy schemes.) I really like Maddie's sex scene with Sam because it's very classy, very tastefully done, very Maddie; and I like David's scenes with Terri (although she's not really what you'd call a romantic interest) because they prove that he can be a tender, caring, responsible man. I also really like the scenes between Maddie and the guy who's her bodyguard in season 5 (in "Eine Kleine Nacht Murder", I think?). If I remember correctly, at the end of the episode he asks her out to dinner and she says she'll have to take a rain check. I wonder if that dinner ever materialized. What I guess I don't like about most of David's romantic interests is that they appear out of the blue, we find out about them and David's past with them, and they're gone by the end of the episode (eg., Jillian, his wife, the woman at David's father's wedding). Which I guess is consistent with David's past lifestyle, but which has always bothered me. On the one hand, David tries to play down those women's impact on him, then it turns out they did make an impact, and then they're gone, never to be heard from again. With Sam and Walter Bishop, there is an episode arc, so they appear in at least two episodes, which gives us a chance to form an opinion about them, not so with David's love interests, except Terri (who only functions as a link between Maddie and David). I like the scene in "Portrait of Maddie" where Maddie and David are talking about Maddie spending the $2000 they earned, and David is wondering what she spent it on and he says something like "I thought you'd spend it on Elvis memorabilia." Knowing Cybill's history and "Moonlighting"'s history of poking fun at itself and its stars, I wonder if this was intentional. I like the scene in "Between the Yuk and the Hard Place" where Maddie and David roll around on the hot air balloon after it falls to the ground. I don't like the dialogue in that scene. Something about David's delivery rubs me the wrong way. It sounds like he's mocking whatever he's saying, which is "The whole time I was up there, I only had one thing on my mind. Most of all, all I could think about was being with you, down here on terra firma." I guess you could attribute the delivery to his "lightheadedness", but it still bugs me a little bit. It's a minor complaint, though.

Yes, he does, and on a few other occasions as well; I remember he does it in Somewhere Under the Rainbow, at the sleeping Kathleen. I could have picked one of those equally. I guess with this you mean (again) that David treated women mostly poorly and that his past, relathionship-wise, consisted mostly of one-night-stands. I'm sorry, but I can't agree on this. Oh, surely his behavior (which could be seen as the same mask as Maddie's smile which she confesses once to Agnes) sometimes may have led to such a conclusion, and surely he may have had his share of such encounters (Stephanie is an example for that, of course) but when we look closer we should know that this is not a general pattern of his lifestyle, and expecially the other examples you picked out (his wife and Jillian) show that in the past he a) was good for a constant relationship and taking responsibility, and even at a very young age b) was the one who got used and kicked to the curb - and not the women by him. Which you underline yourself by stating that those women have indeed made an impact on him; and one that lasted for a few years and contributed a good deal to his reluctance to letting down his protection shield when it comes to Maddie - this guy has been badly bruised before.

I don't mean that David treats women poorly. I seem to remember that David was with his ex-wife for quite some time, and that he wanted to take a job at a gas station (I think it was, but I may be wrong) to support them, and that he was pretty beat up about losing the child. I can't really recall how long his relationship with Jillian lasted, but it was a relationship and definitely not a one night stand, so that says something about him, too. I guess what I meant was that after he'd been hurt a few times, he developed this mask, as you called it, where he'd go out and get trashed at some bar, with random women coming and going, as it tends to happen in situations like that.* I don't necessarily mean that he slept with them (I honestly don't care whether he did or didn't, I'm not judging), but he didn't want to form an attachment to anybody so, like you said, he's "had his share of encounters", eg. his father's bride. That's the "past lifestyle" I meant. So I can understand why his father's bride only appears in one episode. I guess I can rationalize the fact that his ex-wife only appears in one episode because David avoids the issue rather than confronting it (he avoids his ex-wife by not going to the wake) and wants to forget about it and move on with his life rather than dwelling on it. So I guess he wouldn't dwell on it for more than one episode. With Jillian, I guess I can understand why he wouldn't want to contact her after that episode, her being a lying murderer and all. *We have proof that David tends to deal with his problems by going out and drinking (the episode with the Rolodex, the taxi in the episode with his ex-wife, the scene in Maddie's car, Maddie and Sam's dinner in "Sam and Dave"). Call it a pattern or not, but it supports my thought about David's "past lifestyle." I may be wrong on this, but I think at one point David talks about a period in his life when he'd go out and get smashed, which sort of made him less selective in his choice of female companions at that time. Again, not judging.

Probably I got you wrong; what you said sounded derogative to me. OK, if that's what you meant I guess I can live with it.

I LOVE DAVID when he falls off the bar stool in The Next Murder you Hear. I LOVE MADDIE when she unhooks him from the door in that same episode and says 'that is sooo sweet' I LOVE DAVID when he is hung over on the floor in Witness and I love his earring! I LOVE MADDIE when she tries to pick him up and falls in his lap. I LOVE MADDIE when she says 'being irresponsible is something you have turned into an art form and something I do once in a decade' in Sam and Dave. I LOVE MADDIE when she says 'TOO LATE' in answer to 'Before you get mad..' in Big Man on Mulberry Street I LOVE MADDIE when she disapproves of David's bad behavior and tries to get her point across and I LOVE DAVID when he proves her wrong. David and women and drinking just make him a more lovable rogue. I LOVE THE WAY they are so different and the way that over the course of the first few seasons they change each other for the better. I LOVE MADDIE when she says 'I Love him but I just can't stand him' on the train. I JUST LOOOOOOOOVVVVVVEEEEEEE THEM SOOOOOOOOO MUUUCCCCHHHHHHHHHHH. SNAP x

Do you mean "Next Stop Murder"? Also, there are no other women around during that sidewalk stroll in "Lady in the Iron Mask." David was telling her that stupid joke again, then turned serious as he asked "What's goin' on in that blonde brain o' yours?" Completely focused on Maddie, from what I could see.

Oh yes, sorry wrong episode! Watch the episode again. When they are walking after dinner. I watched this episode last night and noticed it again. It was a split second when they were walking after dinner before they saw the news on the tvs in the window.

I love Maddie's back-to-back, almost identical apologies in "Lady in the Iron Mask" and "Money Talks--Maddie Walks": "...all the things I did, all the things I said..."
I love how David responds to these gestures, making it so easy for her.
(Sorry guys for repeatedly commenting on the sorrys. They are deeply touching for me.)
I don't love Maddie when she comes back in Season 4 and keeps making jabs at David's irresponsible lifestyle, knowing deep down that he's changed. "What? You miss a few Happy Hours?" in "Tracks of My Tears" and "What crisis is it? You run outta beernuts?" in "And the Flesh was Made Word." Get over it...and over yourself, my dear Maddie.
I don't love David's cavalier attitude toward his appearance in their place of business (ok, the boxers were cute but let's get serious) in "Witness for the Execution." David really crosses the line during the whole office scene, and it's disturbing; although many things he says are valid.

Golden examples again Snap = as always:
I love David when he suggests that they make love again knowing it's saaaaafe! lol I love Maddie when she hugs David so hard at the end of 'Witness' that she knocks him off the bed... I love David when he desperately wants to spare her feelings in 'Every Father's Daughter...' - the doorway scene when they're looking so intensely into each others eyes... I love Maddie when she goes all girly and coy when he tells the office he loves her... I despair at David when he doesn't show concern that Maddie interrupted a murder and nearly got hurt I despair at Maddie when she buys that silly car for David haha - she should have know that aint no Addisonmobile lol (even though it was kind of funny)
