Could be she feels disgusted with herself because she is so confused...
I think she's terrified of the feeling of being so close to letting go... He makes her teeter at the edge... Emotionally and physically... And she's never experienced this before. Also, I think her past relationships with the types of men she always thought she was suppose to be with plays into her confusion... Men like Sam... College education... Maybe financially stable like she once was...a certain maturity level she expects. David is the opposite of who she thinks she is suppose to be with at this point in their relationship.
Yet, she discovers later David is exactly what she wants... And needs.

Bees, you're probably right... ah yes, than darn "supposed to be with" whcih can never lead to s satisfying, happy relationship - as long as you define "love" as essential, indispensable part of it. I'd like to think, though (and I'm quite convinced), that college education and financial background didn't play such a great role for Maddie - at least not deep deep down. But probably it took time to realize even that...

Whatever her reason that disgusted look just gets to me every time I watch that episode. Gee having a gorgeous man singing in your shower who says he adores you...yeah disgusting!

I didn't mean to imply that Maddie had her nose in the air, so to speak. But, given her background....her circle of colleagues in the modeling world, possibly rich and famous...her family background, where and how she was raised, her father a presumably very successful businessman...I think she would probably have in mind what that perfect man for her would be.
Consequently, the conflict between her head and her heart.

The way she looks at him in THH and says I'n bit supposed to be with you with such disdain in her voice leads me to believe she didn't think he was good enough for her...

I'm not sure she thought in terms of David being "not good enough" for her...only that David seems so different from her in his personality, his approach to life, his goals and ambitions...
The line I have trouble with in that scene is when she says (I'm paraphrasing): "Of course you're happy. I'm exactly who you'd want to be with!" That never sounds like Maddie to me somehow--it's just too thoughtlessly cruel.

Followed by "I'm gonna be under your skin for a long time!" thoughtlessly cruel and not really in character!

"You and I, David...we're an affair."
"An affair?"
"An affair" with that disdainful look and the tone in her voice...beyond awful.
This could be an interesting project right here: most painful moments/quotes; although it also could be quite, well, painful.

The pain is such a big part of what makes Moonlighting work though. It enhances the comedy.
I agree with most of the scenes you have picked out. And I love Agnes

Not wanting to give him a nice raise in "Sleep Talking Guy" David's face when he asks her "Are you calling me incompetent?"

I was looking for something else on an old videotape and came upon "A Trip to the Moon." I ff past the "burglar at the entrance" ridiculousness and stopped at the laundromat scene. I don't think I've ever winced, shifted uncomfortably, averted my eyes, felt my chest and stomach tie up in knots quite like this. I really felt that, even as good as Bruce and Cybill were/are, their stellar acting couldn't hide their disdain for each other beneath the facade of our beloved characters. I believe it came through loud and clear, and up until their dance at the end of the scene, I did not feel the love between D & M. The off-the-mark writing doesn't help. What Maddie says to David leading up to that point hurts my heart. I know there are peeps here who appreciate this scene; remember--JMO. Please be kind...I'm already in pain

That scene makes me squirmy too.....but I don't see disdain for one another. I see two actors where one is pregnant, tired and probably puking between takes and another who is just as tired and overworked.
Question.....if we hadn't heard the rumors, etc., stating that Cybill and Bruce didn't get along the last few seasons...if we had no idea as to what was supposedly going on behind the scenes....would you still think they were a mere facade as they waded through that scene?
As far as the writing....they did have to add a plot point with Cybills pregnancy, hence they went in the direction of Maddie questioning their relationship, setting up her trip to Chicago and pregnancy reveal to coincide with Cybill's maternity leave. Looking back on it, I kind of like to think they had a plan because we got some great scenes from Bruce in Season 4 while Maddie/Cybill was away.
