Hi everyone. I just finished the Pilot. You really get the feel for the 80's right from the start don't you ;D. Walkmans, mohawks, shoulder-pads. Sometimes I miss the 80's.
I haven't actually sat and watched these episodes in a long time and it surprised me how much I laughed out loud. The show really was good right from the start.
Some highlights: Agnes on seeing Maddie the first time "Wow" Maddie to David "knock that locker room grin off your face before I knock it off for you" David dance scene "I'm burning up over here"
I love the whole scene with Maddie's date. Whoever that guy was was perfect for that part and Maddie's facial expressions were hilarious. And of course David was hilarious. The scene with the dead man in the back seat of the car had me rolling too. But I think I laughed the hardest at the scenes at the clock. The scenes were funny themselves, but add to it that now with dvd you can see stunt doubles, wires, etc. and it's really funny to watch.
Couple more things. Just have to say I love Maddie/Cybil's hair. And just an oddball comment, I never noticed all the trees and plants in Maddie's house before.
Well, there's my thoughts for now. Looking forward to reading all of your comments.

Hi, ryangie! I enjoyed your comments very much! What a great-great start, thank you! Firstly I'd like to ask a silly question. The clock tower scene, how did they film such incredible scenes on the location. 1) Maddie, edging close to the huge minute hand, I thought she was Spiderman! Sorry. 2) David and Maddie, on the ladder in midair, clearly we can see her face and the street under their feet. These scenes are astounding, and I felt so scary again. I have to go out right now, but will come back later!

Hi Marple It's great to read your comments too. I don't know how they filmed those scenes where you clearly see their faces and the street below. I wondered that myself while I was watching it. Surely they didn't put Cybil and Bruce in real danger while filming I don't remember if they talked about this in the commentary or not. May have to listen to it again soon.

Thanks for starting off!! Rewatching it again after a while I felt the same about just how funny this pilot was, I guess I realised the last time, but it was very funny. Maddie was so much softer in these early episodes, even tho she was also tough. And watching the scene where they dance together just made me sigh. I LOVE LOVE LOVE that song. I even remember that I bought a CD of Lenny Welch just to get hold of it. And I'd never heard of him before!

Hi, ladies! Having watched this episode many times before, I laughed a lot, too! David always makes jokes, Maddie already gets angly and they start speaking simultaneously! ;D But what I was impressed the most is they(C&B) performed perfectly in tune with each other, and this was just the beginning! I think David is right, these two will make a perfect pair! Unfortunately, my season 1 DVD doesn't have the pilot commentary. But I too think the stunt people did a terrific job.

Thanks ryangie97 for getting us started... I dont know why...but I tend to skip the pilot in my rotation. I dont know why. Maybe because the characters just are not quite there yet...I dont know. I think Cybill was very close to nailing Maddie...but Bruce was still a bit off from the David I know and love. But, I still love it. It is a very funny episode. Some of my favorite scenes: ~The entire "sissy fighter" conversation is just to die for!!! I just love the look on Davids face when Maddie says that to him! ~The dance scene in the bar. (I love that song too Mulberry!) ~The dead guy in the back seat. It makes me laugh everytime! ~The scene in the resterant with Maddies date...hahahahaha...that guy was PERFECT! And that hair...that dress!!! OMG! David about her dates underwear choices: "Tell me you're in a position to know and break my heart." How did everyone like the see threw shirt of the thug? I forgot all about these kinds of shirts...glad I had! Got to love those 80's right? And Marple...I have no clue how they did those scenes with the clock. Good old Hollywood magic. Im going to borrow a question from the original rewatch here... In "Take My Wife" (Season 5), Maddie and David tell each other that each had the other one figured out from the get-go. Rewatching the Pilot, do think that is true? Why or why not?I think they had a bit of a clue, but they are just starting to scratch the surface. What is the most quotable quote from this episode? For me..."Poor doesn't become me." :-) This was fun! I think we should keep going and do this every Tuesday!

Hi, Kim! Great observations! I know what you mean, I much like David in later episodes, too. However I have always loved the Pilot very much because it gets us many expectations into their future...and it's funny that knowing the entire story, I felt this way again this time. Both of them don't reveal much about themselves in this episode, they look so young and do very one- sided things. But they never look shallow people. Far from it, Mddie's soft side and David's sensibility always remain in my heart. I use to go back to the Pilot after I was hurt by the series final, it was quite a remedy. I think they are complex people, I'm not sure each one had the other one figured out from the beginning. My quotable quote M: I need you to leave. D: you need me to live, lady. And sorry, ryangie...I noticed I had missed the word "wire" in your first comment. Yes, they must have used wire in it! Thanks! Good old Hollywood magic...cool!

Hi Mulberry. I love the dance scene too. I will never be able to hear that song without thinking of David and Maddie. Such an iconic scene. Hi Finefinegoodgood I'm not sure if they had each other figured out from the get go. I think they showed some of their true selves to each other in the beginning, but there were def. some surprises along the way. Hi again marple. Yeah I think I saw wire when Maddie was going across the clock, but when they were on the ladder and you can see their faces, no idea how they did that one

I want to play!
I love the Pilot! My favorites scenes are:
The moment Maddie walks in Blue Moon and into David's office. That whole thing with the basketball, Agnes and her head in a trash can, David's reaction to seeing her the first time..."Wow"....and her telling him to knock that stupid grin off his face, all the way to the slap and him calling her a bitch...it's magical! I love that Maddie is shown to be tough...or trying to appear to be...because...
It makes my other favorite scene even better....those two could dance anywhere and look terrific, but that first dance they share in the bar to Lenny Welch completely draws me in every time! And Maddie DOES care what David thinks of her...not cold at all.
I love all of the scenes everyone else has mentioned too, but Yoko is right....Maddie needs David to live...she just doesn't know it yet.
I love this one more every time I watch it!

Rewatch round two. Love this.
I think I am with bees...like it more every time, because I often underestimate the pilot. And then when I watch it, I get the familiar feelings wash over me......joy, glee, happiness.
Watching it again, there are certainly some hokey parts. The bad guy with his cootie watch and his mohawk still creeps me out. And lobster bib man is still a hoot!
But it is fun to re-realize that the chemistry was still there from the first "hello". And the first time Maddie's eyes start to blaze, and she starts to rip the skin off David's hide, you know we've got an amazing story here that is bursting to be told.
I've said it a million times....my original moment of clarity was when in the office, when David plays Blue Moon on the harmonica, Maddie leaning forward to see him, and the expression on her face. Bruce Willis stole my heart that night long ago, and David started to burrow under Maddie's skin.
It's hard not to get sentimental about something that has been such a huge part of my life for so many years. Thanks for the rewatch....and making me appreciate the pilot even more!

Hello everybody! ryangie97, Marple, Mulberry, Kim, Bees and Diane, I enjoyed reading your comments!! To your question, Yoko: I'd love to believe it were Bruce and Cybill who performed those wonderful ladder tricks, they were such a brave couple But I do agree with Ryangie, they couldn't have put Cybill and Bruce in real danger. Or could they? The Pilot episode fascinates me every time, I think it was on my 'Top 6 fave episodes'. This is one of those episodes that I usually re-watch when I feel blue. I like to see how the whole story begins. Glenn said that David fell in love with Maddie the first time he saw her.. I always try to see this in his eyes, was it the moment in the office? Or maybe in the bar? My fave moments: # the dance scene # the office scene ("I am not Miss March..." ) # Maddie's "terrific" date (that was the worst NSM of hers!) # the ladder scene (the moment David takes her in his arms is amazing.. and the look on his face # another office scene, when David touches her hair .. (I try not to faint when I watch it ) And my quotable quote: "I love it when you beg" It's a great-great discussion, ladies! Let's do it again!

G, did Glenn really say that David fell for Maddie at first sight? I don't ever remember hearing that. I personally always thought it was in "The Next Murder You Hear".....but who am I to argue with the master?
I'm on for next week too.
