On May 14, 2019, exactly 30 years to the day after the first airing of Moonlighting's final episode, I posted online an alternate season 3 and/or series finale entitled "Boink to the Future". My goals were to: - right the wrong I feel everything after "I Am Curious... Maddie" represents,
- tell a story that allows viewers to either include or exclude those subsequent episodes within their "personal canon", and
- most importantly, to give David and Maddie their long overdue (on-screen) "happily ever after" regardless.
I found it very therapeutic as a fan to create it, and I sincerely hope you enjoy viewing it. I've given it a biased and predictable rating of "10". "Boink to the Future" can be seen here: MoonlightingBTTF.comI know it's not an official episode, but if anyone is willing to humor me and and treat it as "legit", I would love to know your thoughts. Thank you sincerely for your consideration and honest feedback.

Boink FKA curiouseverafter, that was AWESOME!! So creative, touching, and FUN. Back to the Future is one of my favorite movies, I was a bit obsessed with it when it came out. And of course have always been obsessed with Moonlighting so this was such a thrill to see. I have recently finished a rewatch of all 5 seasons and was once again left so disappointed with the shows ending. This came at just the right time for me. I have been reading a lot of fan fiction and Virtual ML to try to relieve the heartacheš¢. And there is some great great stuff out there by some of our talented members here. This must have taken a lot of time and effort to create. Thank you! I can almost take the ending of the show if I just imagine this is the real endš. From reading the boards here it seems the ones who have managed to recreate their own ending through fanfiction of some kind, videos, writing, etc. have been better able to accept the shows ending for what it is. I may have to try this sometime for myself. I have made videos but never one making my own ending but have always wanted to. Watching this has helped greatly!! Ok I want to mention a few specific things about this that I really loved.
SPOILERS for anyone who hasnāt watched this yet...
Iāve already mentioned the back to the future tie in... very clever. I love that you freeze framed the shot at the end of I Am Curious and continued with the song without having to see the end creditsš
It was interesting that taking out the Dialogue and putting a new storyline to the scenes, allowed me to see the scenes in a whole new way. Taking out some of the bad scripted dialog and just watching them you can see there really was some magic left between those two. And the story you told instead was completely believable with the scenes. Even the church scene from Lunar, completely different feel when watching it here.
I love the use of Blue Moon harmonica music at the end of the hospital scene(MHGM).
David and Maddie and the ML staff as real, just great stuff. In some ways I think they have always been real to us essed peopleš. That was just so much fun.
Ok I will probably watch this again and be back with more comments on something that I missed or forgot to mention. I donāt know where everyone is, itās been pretty quiet around here. Come back everyone I would love to read others thoughts. Thanks again Boink.ļæ¼

ryangie97, thank you for taking the time to watch this "episode" and for the wonderful feedback. It means so much. Having gotten what I needed from seasons 4 and 5 in terms of footage, I highly doubt that I will ever revisit them (or "To Heiress Human") again.
Instead, I will embrace the moral of "Boink to the Future", follow my heart instead of the script, and regard BTTF as the "real" ending.
The more time passes, the more I will associate each scene with its new context, while the original timeline fades away like unhappy George and Lorraine in Back to the Future.
As for how quiet it has been on this board lately, I sure would love it if some of the old crowd would check back in. I arrived very late to this party, but the love for Moonlighting and angst over seasons 4-5 that they (and you) expressed (and I could absolutely relate to) is timeless and really motivated me to put "Boink" together.
I will be revisiting seasons 1-3 again in the very near future, and will try to bring some different perspectives on each episode to the board as time allows. I hope to "see" you here. š
Thanks again, Boink

This made me smile :-) Thank you for that. This must have been a lot of work!
Also, just a side note: I always figured that, had David and Maddie's son been born, he would have been named Nicholas, or "Nick." I don't know why, therefore I thought it was so funny to see that you thought of that name as well. Hahaha!

Sandra, I'm glad this made you smile, and I loved reading how you thought David and Maddie's son might have been named Nicholas/Nick. David and Maddie having six children in "Boink to the Future" was a tribute to Maddie's "last will and testament" as spotted by eagle-eyed viewers from this forum in the episode, "Yours, Very Deadly." You can read more about that here: moonlighting.proboards.com/thread/1386/letter-maddie-writesStarting from there, I named them after married/romantically involved (and often fast-talking) detectives from throughout movie and TV history, some of whom seem to have helped to inspire Glenn Gordon Caron's creation of David and Maddie. They were named after Nick Charles and his wife Nora from The Thin Man book and movies (which began in 1934), Joel and Garda Sloane of 1938's Fast Company and its sequels, and Jerry and Pam from the Mr. and Mrs. North books, films, and TV series. Having now established that the six children consisted of three boys and three girls, it just felt like a no-brainer to include a nod to The Brady Bunch, in all of their '70s and out-of-place glory. Finally, pets Torchy and Skipper were named after characters in the Torchy Blane movies. The first of these was 1937's Smart Blonde, which interestingly featured this onscreen naming of cast and characters right out of the gate. Coincidence?
