In the opening of this episode, Maddie and David sits down at the desk to address us viewers. Then after the "Cut!" they become Bruce and Cybill. "Sorry, Cybill, sorry, Bruce. Too short." or something like that. Why didn't they ever do that again? Do you think it became to personal to involve their real lifes? After this, I recall David saying a number of times that they were actors. Maybe the characters got promoted or something... Anyway, just something I thought about while watching this episode, and would like to hear your opinions.

Yes, jkalen, that is the only time we see them out of character. As the opener for Season 2, it was still early in the series (esp. since Season 1 only had a few episodes). I am thinking that maybe as time went on, the producers decided that it would be more fun to keep them in character to do the little time fillers. Just a thought...

Lin, i like your explanation. It sounds right to me. I do love this opening though. I love seeing Bruce and Cybill as Bruce and Cybill for those few moments. Just like i like seeing the bloopers of them as themselves also.

They still seemed like Maddie and David even when referred to as Cybill and Bruce. To me they didn't come out character at all.

I really LOVE that opening, that overlapping dialogue is genius!! And my favorite is the end of the opening when he says "welcome back!" Has something that absolutely gets to me...

I always thought that Bruce and Cybill should have been themselves in the breaking the 4th wall scenes anyway. Keeping them in character while everything else is not in character didn't really make any sense. I can see where that could be funny but for ex: in Camille where they're talking to Whoopi and Judd about their characters shouldn't that moment have been Bruce and Cybill and not David and Maddie? Having them stay in character knowing they're just characters bring you even more out of the story. It's like if they know they're just characters then everything else doesn't matter. All just for laughs and we shouldn't get too invested in the story or characters. I do love the 4th wall breakage in the series. One of the funniest moments but sometimes it was just took you too much out of the story.
