In my humble opinion, this episode could have been a two hour Moonlighting event. For Maddie to find the scum that stole her money and then confront him... priceless! With some careful writing I really think it could have been longer, but it still was great just the way it was. God, was he a sleaze-ball, scum-bucket of a worm, too. Didn't you just want to strangle him in his smugness? I did! Well played by everybody in the show. And you can't go wrong with more Al Jarreau songs, either!

I liked Maddie's dream in this episode where she goes to him and he gives her back the money and he's grovelling for her forgivenes. It's so funny.
Yeah I really liked this episode too. Especially the very last scene when she goes back to the table and snarls when she sees what cards were left!

One of my favourite ever episodes, especially the scenes where David and Maddie are having a great time in the casino, and sit down to count their winnings. Maddie is warm and affectionate to David when he tries to come on to her, she gently steers him to kiss her hand instead, without any arguments or insults. Scenes like that give us hope that these two had a chance!

9 out of 10. I feel so bad for Maddie in this one. Wish she would have been able to haul that sorry accountant's @#%$&* into court. I have a hard time not punching something when he's on.

Yeah, he is definitely slimy! I love Maddie's line : "The pleasure's all yours, Ron." I love this episode. Partly, because they look fabulous. I also give it a 9.

This is one of the episodes I can remember watching as a kid! I know I thought it was so exciting that they won all that money. (I don't think I understood that they lost it later lol) It's funny how things changes, now when I think about this one of course it's the more romantic scenes that pop into my head. The Barbie and Ken doll and the sit down after the gambling...

I just watched this episode on DVD with my husband last night (he used to watch ML, too, as a kid, for the funny Addison lines.; he thought he was getting a funny one when I wanted to watch this one because it was more romantic ) I give this episode a 7. I liked it a lot because it had some budding romance, but it isn't as funny as others, and it seems to be the most dated in terms of 80s clothes and bad music. I've been reading here and there on this board about when Maddie and David fell in love with each other. While it can be argued that David fell for Maddie nearly instantly, I think there is really a case that he falls in LOVE (rather than in lust) with her during this episode. He goes down to Buenos Aires, not just to secure his job, but to secure his heart. I like this episode, too, because Maddie seams to let her guard down with David a bit, the scene where he kisses her hand. She doesn't want to cross the line, by cutting off David's advances and suggesting they take the red-eye home to LA. But she seems so much more gentle and sweet. I actually like the person Maddie is earlier on in the show. I really don't like the way she is written later on. But that's for another post. What I don't understand is why Maddie reacts the way she does at the end, when she leaves David in Buenos Aires. I know she is furious with him because his hand ends up being better than Sawyer's. But while the speech about "giving your heart to someone and he steps on your aorta" is sweet (I love that she tears up and looks genuinely disappointed that maybe things could have taken a more romantic turn with David), why does she act like he double-crossed her or something? Yes, he knew he had a GOOD hand, but he really seemed genuinely concerned that she could lose EVERYTHING if Sawyer's hand was better. Maddie acts like David deliberatly tried to hurt her. That being said, sending him $340 instead of the $350 he needed for the ticket was hilarious. honeyblonde

I agree with some above posts, this episode brings up so much of the 80's styles: office decoration, clothes, styles, casino trends, music. But that does not mean it is not nice. The whole casino chapter is drawn from classic movies, with the exception of Maddie's dress which reminds us that we're at the 80's ;D David clearly has strong feelings about Maddie, too bad she does not understand them but instead feels that he tricked her. I couldn't agree more, the final scene and what Maddie says do not make sense to me - other that trying to do some more screw-balling after the scene where she discovers that David had a winning hand ;D It's nice acting from Cybill trying to cry at the end during her speech - and how the ice queen steps in and helps her gain control - but seems so unfair to David; he was the one who warned her many times that casinos do not exist to lose money - if she wasn't so stubborn about her ex-accountant, she could have left with more money instead. "I love the smell of burning bull" - priceless A solid 8 from me.

Fun episode to watch, if a tad improbable (but then aren't ALL ML episodes that way?)
I would think that cool, calculating Maddie would first bring in a bank of lawyers, now that she found out where that scum accountant was. Of course that would have made boring TV.
I wish he would have gotten some sort of comeuppance at the end of the episode though. Him getting off scot free always bothered me.

It's interesting how Maddie goes back and forth on her feelings re: old life vs. new life in this ep. First she chides Charles for his answer to her question "Were you really that happy being rich?" "Deliriously so...yes." "OK then jump." Then she calls them both survivors. Seems Maddie has put the past behind her...until she finds out where "that Sawyer bum" is. I love how David ends up being right about how the confrontation with Sawyer will turn out. Shows that Maddie may be tough but still very naiive in the ways of the world. There's the scene before the poker game, when Maddie says, "I can go back to my life, you can go back to yours...me, out of your hair, what could be better than that?" Does she honestly think that David wants her out of his life? Just because she thinks she wants him out of hers? David's response: "That's what you REALLY want isn't it?" That's LOVE. As far as Maddie's revelation at the end, I think the "steps on your aorta" comment is extreme disappointment that dear old Dave wasn't quite the hero she hoped he would be. I sense from the way he said "Whoops!" when she discovered they would have won that he had more confidence in having the better hand than he let on. Perhaps Maddie felt swindled by David, just in a different way than Sawyer. What Sawyer did affected Maddie's ability to trust, and just when she overcame that enough to trust David, he let her down too. Of course the "just fold" speech is completely sincere. But it's not just M's money, things and dignity on the line. It's his heart.
I give it a 10.

One of the best episodes of all. Definitely one of my favourites!
Giddy fun from beginning to end with David and Maddie at their best together. Watching Maddie's struggle to let got of a life she no longer has while straining to hide her excitement at the idea of David coming all the way to Buenos Aires just for her is just sublime. Despite the obvious deeper feelings behind the grand gesture, David is a true friend in this episode. He tries to shake some sense into her in the first act to make her see that this wild goose chase is only going to end in embarrassment and disappointment but then swallows his pride and decides to help her anyway. Like with anyone you care deeply for, you try the tough love .... and then you do what you can to pick up the pieces because at the end of the day you just want that person to be happy.
A fun, sweet, terrific episode. One of the absolute best!
