I loved this episode.
I didn't get the ending at first.
Initially I thought that David knew he was going to win, but lost the $100,000 just so Maddie would stay with Blue Moon Detective Agency.
That was a dick move.
Then I thought that Maddie cooled off, and that David decided to stay in Buenos Aires and party, but ended up going broke and needing Maddie to bail him out once again.
I'm glad I read this thread.
So David knew he had a good hand, but there was still a chance that Maddie COULD lose everything. Scene makes much more sense now, and David DOESN'T seem selfish now.
Maddie leaving David in Buenos Aires, that seems like too much. First off, he didn't double cross her or lie to her. There was still a chance he could have lost. So leaving him in that country seems really messed up.
And now her final speech doesn't make sense. She's saying that just when she thought she could trust David, have someone that was going to tell her everything was going to be alright, someone reliable, someone she could marry, he ends up dashing those thoughts.
Him NOT wanting to risk what's left of her money (house, car and business) seems to be the type of guy she's describing prior to aorta-stomp.
Now, if he intentionally stayed behind to party and needed money, then the speech makes more sense.
Either way, it was a great show. It felt like Casino Royale at parts, Maddie looked amazing, her dialogue was great, her anger was justified and not shrill. I could sympathize with her. The intro was hilarious and true to her character. Maddie's genuinely empathetic to want to help that guy, but it's believable that she would leave him hanging as thoughts of revenge and getting her money back took priority.
