"What about us poor slobs that live for you?"
OMG, that is such a huge statement. David's just laying his heart out there for her. I first thought, "OMG, she's not even really gonna acknowledge this, is she?" But then the callback at the end is priceless. How could they not get together after this??

That's sooo true Hazel! Such a great statement isn't it? He didn't often make statements like that did he? For once he wasn't flippant or teasing her...

And he does this by using the term "poor slobs" which keeps this very big, very important statement light. He can make a funny about it just so it floats into the conversation without scaring Maddie off.
When you think about it...and what it means, it is a significant statement of commitment and involvement with someone.

Yeah, I remembered that comment from when I first saw this episode. They both just keep on dancing around what he's saying, for episode after episode. . .
By the way, that painting of Maddie was really bad. The likeness was pretty decent, but the painting style and use of color was pretty . . . well, "ordinary" would be charitable. Dreadful is closer to the truth. It looked even worse when you could see more of its detail on the DVD.

Yeah, it is pretty hideous. It's funny when David comes to get Maddie from the police station and David crosses his fingers over in front of it when the detective brings it out.

Love Gem Loved that scene! And the first scene with them is hilarious! Also just before they get tied up: David: Dead guy had hick-ups? Even my dad, who doesn't like Moonlighting a lot, had to laugh about that part. But then again, who wouldn't laugh at a David-joke? This episode is one of my favorites.

Oh yes, I must agree with this on so many levels.... Interesting how early on in their relationship, David would throw out so many one-liners to "get to her". And this one, he just slid that one right on in there to see how'd she would react. He put his heart on his sleeve in the form of a quip, but it worked because at the end, in the car.... I haven't seen this ep in a long time....but when Maddie responds by saying something like, "Now what about those poor slobs...." and then she blows him a kiss. Wow!! Gotta give props to Cybill - she really knows how to smoulder. David should have been a puddle in his seat. The chemistry between them is well....we all know. On another note... it's too bad that so many circumstances happened during the course of this show - I wonder sometimes what could have happened if Cybill hadn't gotten pregnant right when The Big Bang happened. No offense to Cybill - just an example - at such a crucial stage in the show. And then everything that transpired after that. I truly loved this show, and it's kinda disheartening to think of what it could have been had things gone a different way.... ~blue moon girl

Yes I've often wondered, like you, bluemoongirl, how it would have turned out if Cybill hadn't had the twins at that point in time. Would David and Maddie stayed together but still fought? Would Maddie still have run home to Mom and Dad? Would Maddie still have had a personality change in Seasons 4 and 5? So many questions...

Aw yes....the personality shift. Yeah, there's a lot of "what if's" for this series.... I've been watching the tapes I have left. I'd forgotten so much of what happened later in the series. And I think on purpose. The first three seasons were the best shows on tv - then it just fell apart. But it's ancient history....foder for discussion. It'll be interesting to see what happens with the rest of the dvd releases. I think it would be great if they could get all the cast together in one room for a little reunion and retrospective. I love the commentaries, but it would be interesting to see the dynamic and conversation between all of them 20 years later. I can't believe it's been that long. I hope that Lion's Gate is putting a little more effort into the upcoming dvd releases. Season three release will hopefully be full of everything we fans are hoping for because after that it's just not as interesting. But I digress.... TTFN, ~blue moon girl

Yeah, I really hope they do something a little different for the season 3 dvd release. I'm not sure they'd be able to get everyone together (I'm not sure all the parties involved would be willing to all get together!) but I'd love to hear Bruce and Cybill do a commentary together. Maybe for Atomic Shakespeare, or Big Man on Mullberry Street. They are probably my favourite two episodes from season 3.
