I'm renting my DVDs (for now—I'll buy them later) and they are a delight. I've finished with the 3rd DVD, am waiting for the rest to come. And you're right, Mulberry, they are such beautiful quality.
I know that the last time I saw an episode of "Moonlighting" all the way through was about 5 years ago (when Bravo was showing them). Before that, I think it had been several years since I'd seen them. I taped the episodes faithfully when they first aired on TV and watched each one several times, but then my tape collection became hard to get access to (moving from one location to another, etc.). In a way, waiting a few years before seeing the episodes again hasn't been so bad for me. It's not quite like seeing them all over again for the first time, but it's pretty cool. It's also amazing how much new stuff I see when I re-watch an episode after not seeing it for a few years.
When I get the complete series on DVD, I daresay I'll pop an episode in and see it semi-regularly, like I do with some of my other favorite TV shows.

I'm definitely still watching - this is the first time I have ever seen these episodes so I need to keep watching to catch up with all you guys and try to know as much as you do. Also, every time I watch I notice other things I'd never noticed before or hear another great one-liner from David etc!

Yes I agree - you see different things now that you can see everything clearly.. I've noticed that you can even see when Bruce or Cybill's eyes are bloodshot, and you can see the scar on Bruce's shoulder even more clearly.. Not that I'm looking TOO closely or anything y'understand!

I am still watching. I don't care much for what's on tv now so when I have time I pop in a dvd. I have brought out my old video tapes as well because I just can't wait for the other seasons. I'm up to Fetal Attraction.

Well, since I last posted in this thread, I broke down and bought the DVDs. It was interesting how my thought processes changed about the whole thing.
It really had been a long time since I'd seen them. I watched each ep. several times during the series run in the '80s. Saw an ep. now and then during the 90s, bit really, not all that frequently. Then around 2000 I watched most of the episodes once on Bravo (usually when I was at work, so my focus couldn't be completely devoted to them). And now these DVDs. It seems like forever since I'd seen them, and I'd forgotten huge chunks of the stories.
Anyway, when I was finishing up the 6th disk (rented from Netflix) I realized that this was it. No more "Moonlighting" until I could buy the set (or keep renting). I think it's important to point out here that I'm in an unusual situation now, staying in a small apartment (temporarily) and I need to "travel light"—not have a lot of extra junk with me. Hence the decision to hold off on buying the DVD set. But when I was preparing the return that 6th DVD to Netflix, it just hit me: I'm not ready to let go of this yet. I re-watched a few of the eps. from disk 6, even, just to prolong the agony (didn't want to return it in the worst way!). And then I bit the bullet and ordered the DVD set. Couldn't hold off any longer.
It really amazes me how "dense" these episodes are in content, and with all the little throwaway lines. I know that the DVD commentaries mention this, but it really hit me how much stuff there is to notice. One viewing doesn't allow you to catch it all—not by a long shot.
Another thing that hits me is that in some ways I am "older and wiser" about some of the humor than I was when I first saw the episodes in the 80s. I was pretty young and a tad sheltered in some ways—so either I've forgotten "getting" some of David's sly jokes, or I never "got" them the first time around. Because I swear, there's a whole lot more I'm picking up now, that I don't remember noticing before.

Okay. I couldn't find any other thread in which to mention this, so please don't get too mad or what. Ahem.
But does anyone else notice that the DVD box set packaging, as made by Lions Gate, is of relatively thin material and tends to crack when you unfold it like a book?
Am I the only one who was pissed when this happened? I mean, when I was a kid and you bought a new book, it was a shame if you opened it to hand to someone and pages fell out or something because there were lines in the binding. I have only had my ML set a few weeks and already you can see ripples in the spine of the set case.
The cover art design itself is fine, as such. I can't fault the pictures or the shiny finish. (And the picture on the inlay booklet--oh, my God.) I just wish they had made the plastic case itself out of slightly thicker material, or I fear I am going to wind up switching the actual discs into separate jewel cases (gasp) in order to preserve the quality of the display box.
Well, that's all. Just wondering how anyone else has dealt with this. Thank you.

Unfortunately, if a co. that is releasing a dvd set doesn't believe it will sell well, they don't go to the expense to make quality packaging. Especially, if it's not a recent show or film. For example. My mother loved Northern Exposure. Popular show. The first set actually came packaged in a real little sleeping bag, so did the second. They didn't sell well, so the third season came out with a cardboard facsimile of a sleeping bag. So unless, this first issue of ML is selling like hotcakes. Don't expect the next issues to be any better.

Yeah, my CD package is falling apart. I'm holding it together with masking tape.
The inside picture (of David and Maddie dancing from "Big Man on Mulberry Street") bothers me because when they were Photoshopping out the background (behind Dave and Maddie) they got the area underneath David's mouth all wrong. (I should mention here that I do portrait art so I tend to notice nitpicky details like this.) They clipped it in a little bit, so it doesn't quite "look" like him anymore. If you look at David in profile, you'll see that the space between nose and mouth don't curve in—in fact, in silhouette, it curves out just a teensy bit.
I know that's a completely anal thing to mention (and it isn't like it matters one way or the other, as long as the DVDs are okay) but they De-Daved him, okay? They made him look a little less like Dave in that picture! Ack!

Of course I´m still watching! Sometimes a day or two can go by without me watching, but then I have to make time... It´s amazing how it can be so great each and every time!
