I can't figure out what else could be wrong. It plays fine for me, as noted, and on a CD-ROM copy I made as well.
In PowerPoint help, it said to do this to attach a sound file to the presentation:
"Add music or sound effects to a slide
Display the slide to which you want to add music or sound effects.
On the Insert menu, point to Movies and Sounds, and then do one of the following:
Insert a sound file
Click Sound from File, locate the folder that contains the file, and then double-click the file you want.
Insert a sound clip from Clip Organizer
Click Sound from Clip Organizer, scroll to find the clip you want, and click it to add it to the slide.
Note To do a search for clips in Clip Organizer, click Modify. To get more information about finding the clip you want, click Tips for Finding Clips at the bottom of the task pane; it gives details on finding files using wildcards and adding your own clips to the Clip Organizer.
When a message is displayed, do one of the following:
To play the music or sound automatically when you go to the slide, click Yes.
To play the music or sound only when you click the sound icon , click No.
To adjust settings for when the sound file stops: click the sound icon , right-click, and on the shortcut menu, click Custom Animation.
In the Custom Animation task pane, click the arrow on the selected item in the Custom Animation list, and then click Effect Options.
On the Effect tab, under Stop playing, do one of the following:
To stop the sound file on mouse-click of the slide, select On click (the default).
To stop the sound file after this slide, click After current slide.
To keep the sound file playing for several slides, click After, and then set the total number of slides the file should play on."
I don't know if that'll help you, but that is the only other thing I can think about at this juncture.
I have mine set to run the song starting from "frame 0" (the first slide) to "frame 65" (the last one). I'm not sure but it may be possible that you have PowerPoint set to run the song with the sound setting on "stop at one click". That's what happened to me when I was first working on the presentation, and I thought the same thing too, that I wasn't going to be able to put music on it. It kept shutting the sound off as soon as I clicked on anything. As soon as I did the function where you adjust the playing time to fit all slide numbers from beginning to end, it worked fine.
I was actually most worried about using the European tv edits instead of the new DVDs. I was lazy, I still have the other versions on my computer. So I still got a couple of seconds of the credits at the end.
There were some editing flubs, which might happen when you are trying to time and match up many different scenes. I think the end of one or two scenes repeats with the beginning of another.
Shame about the music, because I had actually been rather happy with the way one or two moments synched up with the words: the line "...
I go about things the wrong way" is first played as Dave forces Bert to make that giant left turn in traffic. Ahem, doing something the wrong way.
I had hoped the line about "
There's a club, if you'd like to go / You could meet somebody who really loves you..." would of course match up with the shots of Dave looking for Maddie in Metropolis. Didn't quite work that way, because I had removed a couple of duplicate scenes and that bumped everything up on the timeline, so to speak. Instead, that moment in the song runs concurrent with Dave walking into the hotel and watching the mysterious blond stranger meet a man and go into the elevator. In a way, it still applies.
There were also one or two other moments when the synch-up especially worked: the first time "
You shut your mouth, how can you say..." plays, it's when Maddie is storming out of the office.
The very last time the end of the chorus repeats--"
I am human, and I need to be loved..." is as Dave walks away from the house and drops the flowers.
Both times, it was singularly appropriate.
I will leave the file up for the time being. People should be able to download it for up to 30 days (that's how long the file share link is supposed to be good). If everyone is aware of the sound problem, it won't make it better, but at least now they know.
If anyone would like a copy burned on CD, they can PM me and I'll mail them one.
I guess I'll still do the others I wanted to do, with music, although it'll be a shame if no one else can hear it. Hard to get rid of an idea once I've picked up on it.
I
am a Taurus, after all.
Thanks for your advice, I appreciate your help.
