There is a scene in "Cool Hand Dave" where I'm pretty sure they're out in the prison yard, singing something. What was it? An actual record, or something made up on the spot? (Or do I just have it wrong? ) There's another one which is either from season 2 or 3, is my guess, and David is helping dig up something; he starts laughing and sings "Move a little to the right..." (and I think Maddie gives him a look ). It could be from "Under the Rainbow." Just wanted to know if that's in the ballpark. Thanks! ;D

Hey queensgirl,
Don't know the Cool Hand Dave thing I'm afraid, although I do vaguely remember quite a cool singing/choreographed type thing with shovels and spades and lots of men digging (!?). The other one is from Somewhere Under The Rainbow and it's Swing Low Sweet Harriet....something something!! And yes Maddie then asks David "Do you HAVE to sing that?" and is all quite amusing!!

Yeah, that's right about Somewhere Under The Rainbow. And when they're outside singing in Cool Hand Dave, it sounds like the lyrics are made up because they seem to fit the situation, but I don't know if the tune was taken from somewhere else.

Hi,
You know me...had to check this out. The musical scene is in Cool Hand Dave II. Original lyrics - and the score, I believe, is a song from Pirates of Penzance. I don't know musicals all that well. I was going to transcribe the lyrics, but it's a complicated song. Here is the first part of it....
(spoken) "True, we are heinous felons. Not a one of us is nice. But you'd do well to harken to our sage advice. Forget Sam. The wounded ego. And the rest of that bologne. There's a woman and a baby. Say yes to matrimony."
"His wench so fair, who be called Maddie, is the blonde and buxom owner of the agency. The epitomy of virtue. A lady of rare grace. And this naive is always waiting for a glimpse of lace. This naive is always waiting for a glimpse of lace...He begged and pleaded for her sugar and spice, but she blunted his desire with a glare of ice. He begged and pleaded for her sugar and spice, but she blunted his desire with a glare of ice...."
Hope this jogs some people's memories...

Thanks, that does help. It fills in the gap of what I thought happened in the scene. Pretty clever writing for them for a scene like that! Once again, spicing up a gloomy plotline with something weird and funny. With ML, they weren't afraid to be eccentric and intelligent at the same time. There have been some pretty good shows since then, granted, but none quite the same.
