The network Comedy Central (on cable in the U.S.; I don't know if it's available overseas at all) is running a show, "Mouthing Off: the 51 Greatest Smartasses," about the legends of upbraid-ment in television and film. Some of these are listed as the characters, others by the actor's name to point up playing several over time.
I didn't see the whole show, which ran five episodes, only two of them that were on early this morning, Wed. Nov. 9. They had plenty of greats you would expect; since these were the last two episodes in the special, they talked about Rhea Pearlman's Carla character on Cheers, David Letterman, Groucho Marx, Bart Simpson and so on.
I didn't see the earlier episodes, so I don't know at what point in the chart precisely our man is ranked, but in the background of the Nov. 9 episodes, showing passing clips of the preceding characters on the list, one David Addison definitely makes an appearance. From the order of photos I am guessing he was in either one of the first two of the five shows.
I am trying to sort out the listings, and it's a little hard to tell when they'll be repeating it and in what order, because of a site redesign. This might help, though: if you go to the homepage and click on "TV Shows" in the top left corner, then "Complete Schedule" in the menu that pops up to the right, and finally drag down the arrow to the name of the show, you may be able to find when next it'll be on. You can also flip through the schedule to any day this month. Hope it works. If not, try a generic search for the title.
Okay, that's not too confusing... ;D
I don't know why our Maddie didn't get in there as well, because she matched him riff for riff, didn't she! ;D I guess Dave is the classic overgrown-15-year-old type, though, whereas M. was always having to react to his antics.
David was relentless. He would casually just say stuff that on any given day would have a sane person wondering why they were suddenly reading the want ads again...
The man was just a force of nature. ;D As long as you need someone to make you smile and make you crazy at the same time, Dave will be one of the classic characters.
If you manage to catch the clip show, it ought to be worth it. If you don't find it, don't worry, CC reruns things quite a bit.
