Hope you don't mind me saying but GWTW did get a happy ending in the form of the book then movie titled SCARLETT. It was at least 10 years ago that the movie came out. It is a terrific movie if you haven't seen it. Rhett and Scarlett do get back together years later. Alot of the movie is shot in Ireland and the scenery is beautiful. My mom loved the movie. It wasn't written by margret Mitchell who wrote GWTW but someone who got permission to write a happy ending for Rhett and Scarlett. See it if you love GWTW! Just thought i would mention it

I can see it from both perspectives. Maybe instead of calling it a 'reunion' we should just call it a 'new episode'. I can completely see the argument for just leaving it be... letting the series end the way it did and accepting it.
But after seeing "Lunar Eclipse", you can't help but to come away feeling that something else needs to happen. If David and Maddie don't end up together, I guess I can accept that if there's a better way to tie things up. This great television series ends with question marks everywhere.
I heard that "Lunar Eclipse" wasn't actually supposed to be the series finale (Diane, help me with this fact?). It was actually an earlier episode that the producers/writers/editors had to rush for the series finale. ML was Glenn Gordon Caron's baby, his holy grail, his signature - and he didn't even get to sign-off on it.
I don't necessarily want to see a traditional 'reunion' show either - Cybill, Bruce & Allyce sitting around a table reminiscing about what happened 20 years ago and looping a bunch of clips we already have on DVDs. I'd just like for there to be 'something else'. What that 'something else' is, I'm not sure.
Maybe when season 5 comes out on DVD, Caron will surprise us with a "new" episode right after Lunar Eclipse. Maybe when all the actors and producers gathered for the season 3 commentary, they did a quick skit??
You just never know.

I was aware of 'Scarlett', Rose. I have the book - bought for me because of my love for GWTW. I have read it once. It was OK. I'm afraid I just find it a bit superfluous. GWTW did not end happily but it has remained eternal and a classic whereas its sequel has been almost forgotten. I agree the story was interesting and had it been about other characters it would have stood up well in its own right but IMHO Joanne Whalley-Kilmer and Timothy Dalton are no Scarlett and Rhett!! This is my fear with ML - that some aspiring producer will see there is some mileage in the characters of David and Maddie and we will end up with the likes of Owen Wilson and Kirsten Dunst playing the roles! (No offence to those 2 actors but Bruce & Cybill they ain't)

Hey Funky, I agree with you Scarlett is no GWTW but it was a pretty good love story/movie IMO . You almost never have sequels as good or better than an original. It's like that on my Soap Operas i watch when an original actor/character fan fave leaves and they try to replace them lots of times the new actor never comes close to the orignal. And god no to those actors names you mentioned for a ML movie. Not my faves either, no offence too LOL

I agree with you Sportsanchor Brent. It couldn't be a reunion show, it would have to be an episode - epilogue is more like it. Remember how years ago there were all those mini-series sagas that took us through the lives of people? Well, this would just be Maddie and David 20 years later...

You know what guys...I can totally see a new version of ML - done as a tv movie or worse a real movie. Remember DALLAS is being produced as we speak. An updated version with JLo. Puh-leeze!! This is the trend for the past several years...let's take a show from the 70's/80's and make a MOVIE out of it - with the hot young actors of today. There's been Starsky & Hutch, Dukes of Hazzard and coming soon - Dallas. Oh god...I just had a thought - Paris Hilton as Maddie! Ok...I'm seriously sleep deprived today. But...don't think it hasn't already been tossed about at the studio round table...They might just do it...

Anybody see this link from another thread on this forum? i61.photobucket.com/albums/h62/jkalen81/Moonlighting%20Screencaps/Yours%20Very%20Deadly/testament.jpgIt's from the Season 3 "Yours, Very Deadly" episode when Maddie was writing her will. Somebody mamaged to get a close-up capture of what Maddie was writing on her notepad during that episode. So this is what it says: "Being of sound mind I write this last will and testament on this 24th day of October 1986. I leave my house to my husband david and my six children. My car I leave to my mother in the hopes she will not get as many speeding tickets as I have gotten in the... Click into it and read... perhaps some foreshadowing? It's gotta be Bruce, Cybill, Allyce and Curtis in a new episode/movie... or I ain't buyin' in! Thoughts?

Unsure if I really want to open this can of worms gang, but If (capital if) you won the lotto and purchased the rights to the Moonlighting media empire and you could NOT get Bruce and Cybill to reprise their roles.....who would you pick?
The Mrs and I had a go at this and come up with one set of possibilities:
David Addison would be played by Ryan Reynolds. Some of you may remember him as the funny Jim Carrey like guy from Two Guys, A Girl and a Pizza Place.
The Maddie casting was much harder and was a toss up between Rebecca Romaijn and Alicea Silverstone (who I think is a bit vertically challenged for the role).
The ball is back in your court folks!

Not sure I would want it recast at all but for argument's sake if it was going to be remade I can't think of anyone to play Maddie but for David there could be only one guy - Robert Downey Jr. He's funny, smart and a little edgy. I think he's a great actor but I still think only Bruce and Cybill 'fit' the characters.

I think TV series (or sitcoms) is a approved way on big screen for little known but talented actors, therefore I think for Maddie and David there could be little known actors. I'm sure Bruce and Cybill would do a cameo in it. (sorry for my english)

I need to see "Lunar Eclipse" again. It's been several years since I've seen it. I used to VHS all the Moonlighting episodes off the Lifetime Network back in the early 90's... but they canceled that syndication before they got to season 5...
I probably won't see the series finale until season 5 comes out on DVD sometime in 2007... Unless it's streamlined on the internet somewhere?
I still think all the 'original pieces' from seasons 1 & 2 should gather and do something... this show made major in-roads, it was a real phenomenon and the fans want to know what happened to these characters two decades later...
This forum wouldn't exist if we all didn't still care.

Very rare anyone ever starts a post with the words "I need to see Lunar Eclipse again" very funny!! I totally agree though Sportsanchor, i think we all care very much about what these characters would be doing right now. Together? Apart? Well, the first one obviously but how, where, why? So many questions.......but maybe that's a good thing because then we can imagine our own endings and leaves us having these endless discussions.

In my dream world, Maddie and David parted ways in May of 1989. Something happens to bring them together 20 years later. Both are single and they discover that the spark is still there. This time they do it right.

Oh, I like that idea lin. That's a great jumping off point to begin the affair all over again. Does anyone here like Hart to Hart? I love Jonathan and Jennifer. It would be interesting to envision Maddie and David 20 years later - married, with their same sparky chemistry, but with the twist of the H2H relationship as well. Just an idea....
