Dave wrote: I was wonderingwhether you came across to any episode alterations. ************************ Yes. On season 3 "blonde on Blonde". Its at the early part of the show. When Maddie breaks up the strip Poker game. Originally they showed a lady standing up about ready to take off her bra. On the DVD the camera angle is a new one. It shows a closeup of her face. Some one must have thought it was not in good taste to see her in her bra. Moonligher Now you see, that kinda ruins the viewing pleasure for me. Will someone explain to me why it is risque now in 2006 to show the complete scene of that woman in her undies while it iwas apparantly ok to air through ABC in 1986 for crying out loud. The laws in the US are beyond me people, so to paraphrase somenone: good luck and good night

The laws in the US are beyond me people, so to paraphrase somenone: good luck and good night The thing is, it's not really the general public who runs the networks. It's executives who are worried what will 'play in Peoria,' in other words appeal to what they think of as the 'typical' audience, which they think is more staid, even if this is not true in real life. Also, there's the fact that the episodes ran in syndication in the 1990s and the first few years of the 2000s on cable networks Bravo and Lifetime, and they made their own editing decisions. What you are seeing is probably not the original complete footage as filmed for ABC. It may very well be one of the cable edits. When a different network buys syndication rights, they may cut an episode for various purposes, and like it or not that's what we have left to work with.

I ordered mine! How weird that they edited that part now, in 2006.

You are probably right. But there is no pattern what they use. Some of my vhs tapes are from ABC and some are from Lifetime. I compared some episodes with ABC and they match up on certain scenes. They don't match with the Lifetime edit. That is because Lifetime was more apt to cut the show for time and add more commercials since it was syndication and not just a first time repeat that would have shown on ABC. One example is "Atomic Shakespeare". Lifetime did some very very small edits alot of people wouldn't even notice, but the DVD has the full ABC edit. yeah!!! But in season 2 on the "lady with the iron mask", it looks like they used the cable edit. By edit I mean change the soundtrack. Bad choice. Also I noticed that lifetime cut a long scene from, "all creatures great and small", but its all there complete on the DVD. I think there is one more cropping somewhere but I will have to check it all out again. I too wish that we could count on them to give us the full deal so we wouldn't have to check this stuff out. Tell me queensgirl, would anyone be offended by the original unedited ABC version? I feel that the executives that go ahead and mingle with Moonlighting should first of all be people that care for the show in the first place. People who do not care for the show, probably some young execs that simply see it as a marketing task are in no way up to the job. It is beyond me even though you explained to me what happens in such cases. I feel that old Moonlighting fans and followers have been robbed. This is censorship. There is no other word for that, no matter how many euphemisms one may come up with.

Good call. ;D And I found some of my tapes from the original airing. If I can ever find a machine to run 'em on, I would have back the actual edits from the first-run days--oh, to see the old commercials again, and hear the ABC announcements ...
