The first few times I saw this episode, I can remember I didn't like them laughing, although maybe I should have thought different because the fight scene was so terrifying. Now that I see it...I'm going to be honest, I still don't like the grins. Kind of a break in the ambience. They should be happy, I know, but laughing seems somehow off.

I haven't seen the scene in a good quality, but to me it seems that Maddie was just smiling after hearing the I Love You that I haven't seen/heard either. I need the dvd asap. ;D

David Addison clearly says ''love you''. It is crystal clear on the DVD transfer. Remember the latter episode when Maddie wants to make the pact and she asks David at one point ''do you remember what you told me last night?''. He says ''yes i do'' and she says to him ''then you will make this pact''. I never could understand what she meant, but now I guess she meant if you love me as you said you did you will make this deal with me in order to make me feel comfortable. What was the deal with that? We do know for sure now that he said "I love you", but there's no way to catch it if you don't know it's there. There are just too many hands and sheets in the way. ;D And then the next day/episode there's a reference to it?! I didn't get what she meant by that either. (but now that I know, and when he says "I know what I said, and I meant it" or something, he just blows me away, how could she resist that?! ) I guess it's similar to when David said he asked Maddie to marry him and she said no. That's also a "huh?" in my opinion.

Yes, she does look like she could be. Cybill says that everytime he kissed her that she laughed. Since this was such a huge scene for these characters it probably made it even harder for her not to laugh. I always thought that Maddie was just extremely happy because they were finally 'together'. Oh, and btw, I watched that shot last night, and you really can see David say "I love you." I don't remember if I ever saw that before. sighThe whole wide shot of the actors rolling around on the floor are their doubles because of Bruce's broken collarbone. I actually would prefer if she hadn't laughed... while he looked so serious and really caught up in the moment. Even just before their first kiss, she looked like she could hardly contain herself. Not so obvious but I don't know.. I wonder how many times they had to do retakes... maybe that's why. Plus, why does he keep putting the sheet up? Because they can't look like they were totally naked on primetime? I wish I didn't know about body doubles I was quite happy thinking that it was them. But re-watching... yeah we can't see their faces at all. Now this explains why I thought Bruce's *ahem* "behind" *ahem* looked a little bit bigger than usual, lol. But all in all, I am in love with this scene... it is perfect in every way.

i have to say that when i realized they used doubles for the scene i was quite surprised... well...the first time i saw it i was so thrilled that i couldn't think about doubles or something like that, but if we think about it ratonally we can see some differences...just as you noticed ;D about maddie (cybill) laughing...it doesn't disappoints me because i like to think she's just happy and she is not as frosty as usual...

Yeah actually I'd like to think that she feels happy too... and I also like to think that the reason David is looking much more serious could be that his mind is on a roll, thinking "Wow, man, that's Maddie in my arms!! " ;D

Welcome Alcherea, We are talking about my favorite episode! In the commentary for Atomic Shakesphere, I think Cybill mentions to Bruce "are we actually kissing in this scene of AS and he says to her yeah we always kissed and she also mentions how he always made her laugh when they kissed too so that is probably why we see her laughing in IACM. Hope i'm right on this.

Thank you for the welcome Rose I think this is my favorite ep too. I haven't heard the commentary yet but I think you are right. I can understand though, it must be hard to keep a straight face during such moments, esp. when you are about to make out with the guy who makes you laugh everyday. And may I say that I love your avatar and sig pic? Very nice ;D

I recall reading in Cybill's book that during the film shoot for Chances Are, the director had to ask her not to laugh during her kissing scenes with Ryan O'Neal because it was upsetting him. So, am guessing that the laughing is a nervous thing for her, perhaps? But, getting back to IACM, when Cybill hides her face behind Bruce, then he raises the sheet to cover his face, I suspected that he was starting to laugh, too. I never minded the laughing because, with all of the negative press revolving around Moonlighting by that point, it was just nice to see they were still having fun together.

Oh yes, I think you are right. Now that I think about it and actually having just watched it again - yeah thought that was a good excuse... - he also starts laughing under the sheet... and Cybill is actually cracking up or about to, hiding her face under his. I wonder how many times they had to do retakes. I agree that laughing must be a nervous thing for her... but I guess it didn't upset Bruce as much as it did O'Neal?
