ML was produced at a rather high point, on American TV at least, for private detective shows. This was followed shortly by a wave of lawyer dramas, and the current vogue is for police procedurals. Besides the obvious , what are your favorites in the p.i./cop/courtroom drama genres, in books, television and film? These themes can provide endless amounts of new plots—there’s always some interesting crime case in the news; we’ve all probably dreamed about wearing a badge, or arguing before a judge, figuring out the evil genius of the criminal mind, helping the victims, in general knowing what makes the system tick. (Least favorites too, if applicable.) Some I enjoy: the original UK version of the t.v. show “Cracker”; in novels and on U.S. tv, “Nero Wolfe”; and of course Sherlock Holmes.

I have got to say, before ML, I was a fan of Remington Steele and Laura Holt.
Once ML hit the scene, there was never another detective team for me.
Often imitated.......never equalled.

I have been watchong Monk recently and it is fantastic! I NEVER normally laugh out loud at television shows, but this one, SO funny! Tony Shalhoub is a brilliant, brilliant actor as Monk. I also think the relationship between him and his nurse Sharona is very sweet. They have great chemistry

I also like Monk - think it is very clever. Interesting, although useless, piece of trivia Tony Shalhoub is married to Brooke Adams who played Terry Knowles in ML.
