Moonlighting once again forgets it’s a comedy and wastes a premise rife with potential for fun. Remember FUN Glenn?
After a S-L-O-W set up David takes Bert out for a night on the town to pick-up women. Wonderful things could’ve happened at this point but instead it goes nowhere. Meanwhile Maddie is forced out of her hibernation to attend a house party thrown by her parents. Wonderful things could’ve happened at this point but instead it goes nowhere. Both stories had potential to bring Moonlighting out of sad sack mode for five minutes but instead this underwritten episode coasts on its last act revelations. Maddie being pregnant and David having a one-night stand are all well and good but you have to keep us AWAKE before we get there! Hardly a “tale.”

Oh dedave, you crack me up! This one is painful in so many ways, isnt it?
What you have made me aware of though is that this one concludes with Maddie actually seeming to be happy about her pregnancy....shocked, but happy. But David, on the other hand, while attempting to have some fun is even more miserable in the end.
Loving your posts!

I agree beesnbears the ending of this episode is the least of its problems. Maddie's happiness at being pregnant being juxtaposed with David is well played. The look in David's eyes as the meaninglessness of the one-night stand washes over him feels so real and believable to me. It's a good ending. One positive to the relentless serious tone of this season is how much Bruce grows as an actor. Too bad the rest of the episode is so...... ugh! The more I think about it the more I feel I gave this episode too high a rating! It deserves more of a 3.

I guess I must have voted on this one as I can't vote now but I have no idea what I gave it then. I don't know what to say about this one that everyone else has not said. I am enjoying reading everyone's comments and views again. I remember watching this one when it originally aired and feeling betrayed that he cheated on Maddie. I think it scarred my young heart But watching it this time I was thinking did he really cheat? She did up and leave him without a word, has left him hanging telling him not to call her, and no reply to his sweet letter. It was heartbreaking when he thought she had returned. Great acting by Bruce here. Yeah I still hate that he did what he did and it's obvious he instantly regrets it and feels even worse after, I just can't hate him for it as I just feel too bad for the guy. I love that Maddie seems happy about the pregnancy. A little glimmer of hope that things could still turnout well. 4 or 5 for this one I guess. *edited to add I love Mrs. Hayes little rebuke of Maddie here. She is treating her parents a little like she is treating David, shutting them out, and she's not having it anymore. Me thinks she might would just side with David if she knew the story.
