How would you rate "Cool Hand Dave I" on a scale from 1-10?

Well this one is not so black and white with my vote , i would say a 5or 6 . I didn`t think this was a great episode but i do like the first 15 to 20 minutes just because of when Agnes lets slip to Bert about Maddie being pregnant and then in the office when Bert reveals to David about MR Addisons impending fatherhood. Classic line: DAVID:" If your¬e playing tops because some squaw is carrying your papoose.... BERT:" Mine? No sir , YOURS!" DAVID:" What are you talking about, i havent knocked anybody up!" BERT:" Not just anybody sir , you knocked up the boss!" DAVID:"What!!"
I just love those exchange of words i think they are so funny. And then you have the phone call to Maddie when David asks her "how long have you known?, I mean you were going to tell me right?, that your`e em pregnant!" I remember when i watched it when it first aired and thinking YES! David`s going to Chicago and will confront her and bring her back home and this whole baby thing will be out in the open at last. This episode had so much promise in those first 15 minutes or so but then it all goes horribly wrong so thats why it only gets a 5 from me.

I remember when this episode first aired that I liked it, especially the way they gave you some hints with how it was going to go with the title. The timing and pace of the show was very good and as Lauraa said above, it has one of the greatest lines ever in the series. To this day I don't know how they snuck that one by the censors.
Anyhow I liked the show, even with the lack of Maddie

I think that, if someone is in the right frame of mind, this is a very good two-part episode - i.e., if you pair it up with a Bruce Willis film and call it a double feature. But, if you're meticulously watching the season's episodes in order and holding your breath for some progress between Maddie and David, well then, Cool Hand Dave I becomes quite torturous. Not only does David get derailed in his mission to confront Maddie face to face, he remains anonymously in prison at the end of the episode. (Anyone here old enough to remember when Lassie got lost for six or eight episodes? When this ep first aired, it so reminded me of that childhood agony. ) While I do like part II better, I think part I is okay and give it a 7.

*8*
I liked the whole prison setting and all the stereotypes of such movies for our Dave.
I liked the character actor who played his roommate; he's been in hundreds of movies. Is he still alive?
I loved when David turned down this big inmate for a date and he tried to attack him like a giant bear on his hind legs. So funny!

Now this was a good episode! I loved it, Agnes was hilarious, she was really really good! Burt didn't annoy me, I liked the prison plot & I just like seeing David going through all kind of situations, although it's a real shame there was practically no Maddie .. I gave it an 8 .. & I think I'm gonna watch part 2 right now

I never rated this one i see , so here goes: I give it a 6 for mainly the beginning which is so awesome! I love how Burt breaks the news to David! So awesome that whole scene, then David calling Maddie, WHY oh why couldnt David have gone to Chicago and talked some sense into Maddie to come home with him. Oh what different epiosdes we would have had SIGH Well this first part is really probably my fave out of the 2 parter

What we have here basically is "The Adventures Of David Addison" and as an attempt to fill in time while Maddie is off doing whatever it is she feels she needs to this is at the very least... creative. The scenario is fun and a breath of fresh air considering the dull, leaden tone of the previous episodes. But the contrived nature of David's diversion is all too distracting, stupid and just doesn't work. Once the dust settles however there is some fun in watching David settle into this sea of prison cliche's. Too bad the whole thing is a strained set-up to keep this departure from the traditional Moonlighting universe going another week. Still there is something intriguing about an episode ending with David in a prison holding cell having an imaginary conversation with Maddie. It's a pretty dark ending when you think about it. Personally the highlight of this episode will always be Bert serenading Agnes. It's self-indulgent, long and barely moves the plot but... it's BERT VIOLA SINGING "SEXUAL HEALING!"

Don't know what I rated this before but watching it now 5 maybe 6. I love Agnes in this one. I love that she's responding to Maddies message like she's actually talking to her. I love that she's touched that Maddie told her first and is afraid that she'll not trust her again, Sweet. I lthink Burt gets the two best lines in the show. When he tells David he knocked up the boss lady and "I love guacamole." I didn't remember the guacamole line and it cracked me up. The whole Agnes and Burt scene is pretty funny. The phone call between Maddie and David is great and I loved that he wasn't going to listen to her this time and was going to Chicago no matter what she said. Go David! But of course things never go to plan. Ugh
