I enjoy the Cool Hand Dave episodes...but let's be honest and talk about how unbelievable this premise really is. Do you really think a convict could pull off an escape like that in an airport and a completely innocent man get hauled off to prison?? And then when David gets to prison, no one realizes his fingerprints, photo etc don't match. Pretty hard to imagine. Oh well, this first CHD episode has one of my favorite Bert & David scenes in it.... Bert spilling the beans about Miss Hayes's pregnancy. A funny and touching scene all at the same time. I was cheering Bert all along the way.

Have to say, first time round when I watched this (aired on TV) I was pretty frustrated by it all. But now, having it on DVD, I think the CHD episodes are actually pretty good. Yeah it annoys me noone looks at a photo to get David out, but the guys in the prison keep me entertained no end!

Some of my favorite lines happen when Dave breaks the 4th wall a couple of times expecting this to be a fantasy or dream sequence.....but it never is! A good switch on the standard talking to the audience that had run its course by now.

After watching the commentary episode of "Come Back Little Shiksa" and hearing what the writers had to say about all of the crazy things they had to do to keep the show going with CS's pregnancy, etc., it makes CHD I and II a little more interesting when thinking about that perspective, I guess. I do remember how frustrating it was to watch originally.
So typical that ML would expect us to believe that Dave ends up in the slammer on his way to rescue Maddie. Poor guy just could not seem to catch a break, could he?!?! LOL!!
In light of all of the silliness I enjoy CHD I and II. They both have some really great ML moments. I like how the prison guard whistles the ML theme. Pretty clever. And David still pines away for Maddie while stuck there all that time. And of course the message on his answering machine when he returns is a heart breaker for sure.....

Man, the first episode in this two-parter was just so...BIZARRE. I found myself literally saying out loud, "What the--is this really happening?"
Reacting that way to ML is doubly weird.
