I like everything about this one except that creepy nightmare Maddie has when unconscious. What on earth is it supposed to mean?

i don't think this episode is bad at all, althuogh maddie's nightmare... i've been surprised by the fact that on the cemetery scene they sing "cabaret",i really love the song and the musical!

Lucy
You know the choice of Cabaret might be a brilliant choice. I just recently saw a community theater production of Cabaret and was struck by how the impending tragedy of the political situation seemed to catch some people blissfully unaware...or else they chose that viewpoint as subterfuge (blatant irony.) So maybe Caberet in the cemetary is used in a similar symbolic sense. (Or maybe very little thought was put into song selection..and they just got lucky that it fit so well!)

My favorite ep of 5th season all time Probably I don't like a Maddie's nightmare but this nightmare has made me reading a dream interpretations hah! and I has taken out of context "Dreams of experiencing your own death usually means that big changes are ahead for you. You are moving on to new beginnings and leaving the past behind. Metaphorically, dying can be seen as an end or a termination to your old ways and habits. So, dying does not always mean a physical death, but an ending of something. On a negative note, to dream that you die may represent involvement in deeply painful relationships or unhealthy, destructive behaviors. You may feeling depressed or feel strangled by a situation or person in your waking life". ...but anyway I love this episode for another things. I give 10.

I just watched my dvd version of this episode. I love this episode! I gave it a 9 only because i don't care for the dream/nightmare cemetery scene at all, i think it really drags on way to long. but other than that what is not to love about this epiosde! The shower scene is the best part! I love how B/C seemed to be really laughing in that scene, it must have been fun to film it together.

I just watched my dvd last night. this is the one episode that I haven't seen in more than 10 years--my VHS copy was awful. I remembered not caring much for the nightmare either, but forgot how much M/D interaction there was in this one. I loved it! It seemed more like old times. The car scene--loved it! It's always enjoyable when M/D have those deep discussions. this episode has it all--comedy, romance, dream sequence, car scene, etc. It even had the lovely opening w/ the shot of Maddie's feet as she steps off the elevator. It just irks me how M/D still seemed to care for one another here and then 2 epiosdes later. Ahhh!!!! I really liked this a lot more than i remembered. the funny thing is though, even though it's been so long since i've seen it, i could still recite some of the dialogue. ;D I give it a 9 too. some points off for the lengthy nightmare and that laughing scene in the office. Oh, and i loved how david brushed maddie's hair away from her face in the hospital scene.

I thought they chose Cabaret because it made for great head choreography. *L* Given all that had transpired up to this point, it was a relief to find that they were still able to be silly and just have fun with an episode. I gave this little ray of sunshine an 8. Oh, and kudos to whoever played Harry. Pretty impressive when a dead guy can steal the scene.

I had to give this a 4 because even after the laughs, by the time Maddie's death dream was over, my senses were dulled. Was this episode released around Halloween? Even if so, this dream sequence was very stupid and I don't know who okayed it for the episode and I wonder what Bruce and Cybill thought of it. I thought the whole office screaming when David came out after sitting with Harry all that time was pretty funny. When everyone started laughing, it seemed like the actors were laughing for real until they kept it up and then it sounded forced. Strange. The shower scene was cute. It was great when David repeated that his and Maddie's last name was "Skipsquat" and then the lady calls him 'Skip'! Oh my gosh... ;D As a whole though this ep really wasn't that good, but had its moments.

I've voted 7 on this one. Indeed the nightmare scene was kinda metaphoric, regarding Maddie's view of her life, but it could have been shorter.
The whole episode featured some links with Season's 2/The Lady in the Iron Mask, regarding M/D "situation of closeness" i.e explaining how close is one to another (closest?), but that's all.
One explanation of the whole Maddie nightmare could have been that she finally realised that although David could "send her to her death" with his actions, she's the one that has to deal with her emotions and (dis)believes in her life and move on.

This one is okay, but not great. It is very uneven. There are some really cute bits in it, but there are also some very weak scenes. I hate the laughing scene. Really forced and awkward. And Maddie's nightmare is way, way too long. I got a chuckle out of David being the one to send her to her grave, but that payoff takes way too long. Oh and Maddie is in her clomping around mode in this one. I've mentioned it before that I didn't like the physical direction they went with her this season.
As for the good, the shower scene is a hoot, but it is all silly and no sexy, which is a shame. It made me think of the scene in the portrait episode where they are tied up and Maddie knocks the chair over and crawls over to him and David tells her she slithers great. That scene was both silly and sexy. I miss that dual energy. But the episode does have one of my favorite ends with David's naughty last wishes. Love, love her reaction.
I'd be inclined to give this a 6 for the good stuff, but a 1 point demerit to 5 for basing an episode on a gag that Remington Steele had done tons better just a few years earlier. The Trouble With Harry homage that RS did in their first season (the monks and wine episode) puts this episode to absolute shame. I wonder if GGC had still been on staff if he would have let them do something RS had already done. After all, it was a Season 1 RS. GGC may have even worked on that episode himself.
