To me, this is still a good show, not up to Series 2/3, but still good and you still care about the characters! I love the end bit with Rich and Dave. Having seen this again recently, I still like it. The show slides into mediocrity with the next episode in my opinion....

I really love this episode! It has Charles Rocket in the show again as David's brother and all episodes he was in were always great. He was a perfect casting as David's brother. You realy feel bad for him at the end he really loved Carla. I love the M/D interaction except for the talk in the car after the dinner and Dave goes into his chant of "Dave's Afraid OF Imtimacy ". I so don't get that part. So i give this episode an 8. Love the title cause it's from a movie called Those Lips Those Eyes that my Uncle was actually in years and years ago.

That's true, good point Rose - the "Dave's afraid of intimacy" bit just didn't ring true. If anything, its Maddie who is scared of intimacy. Dave wanted to commit to her, and to bring up her child together!

I truly love Charles Rocket as well. I really like the scene in David's office when Richie is trying to get Maddie to help him out. I love David singing "Blue Velvet" and Richie mocking him - rolling his eyes and lip syncing...too funny.

Definitely one of the best episodes of the last two seasons, although I also did not get the "Dave is afraid of intimacy" mantra.
As for Blue Velvet, I couldn't help wondering whether Bruce had to learn the song or if he already knew it. It's so not him. *L*
I always love to see Richie turn up in a scene, and the chemistry between him and David AND Maddie is so good, I couldn't give Those Lips, Those Lies any less than a 9.

Although there are some nice moments between David and Richie, this episode should be called "Recycled"...........
- A man steals all of a woman's money - David feels obligated to tell another member of his family that his fiancee has a shady past - The porcelain shampoo is recreated - Maddie shreiks while David and Richie roll around on the floor, and she finally lands on top of them, rolling around as well. - Richie wears heart boxers
Oh well, I guess that makes mincemeat of my theory that the season five writers never watched the other four seasons! Blatant theft and repeating of tired themes proves me wrong!
I give this one a 3.....maybe a 4...cause I always did like David, Richie and Maddie together.

I agree with Diane, the only reason this episode gets a 5 from me is only because it tried to recreate the Season 2 "Brother, can you spare a blonde" atmosphere.
It is a real pitty that Season 5 writers did not study the previous seasons so that they could really give us something new (and the situation get's even worse entering the last 4 episodes of ML...).

This one gets a 5 from me. I love Richie and I love the sweet Dave and Richie ending. But like has already been said, it is very derivative of earlier Dave and Richie stuff. I mean parts of the dialogue seem to have been lifted right out of Season 2.
This episode also gets a demerit for more Maddie and David awkwardness. They bicker about their relationship but not in a sexy, I want you way, but more in an I'm so over you and can't we just get past this and be friends way. Blech.
But a plus for Maddie and Richie. I really love them together. He makes her laugh and I always thought she loved being around Richie because she could just appreciate all the "Daveness" in him without the emotional danger of being hurt or made a fool of that she had with David.

I rolled a seven on this ep, but it could have gone a point lower. I guess I rated it higher because Tom Hanks' wife is in it (as Carla, if I have my celebs correct).
Anyhow, gotta agree with most posts here in that the Dave and Richie show was always entertaining. Charles Rocket, God rest his soul, was a pretty natural actor, especially in this role. Kinda ironic that this is the first show since being moved to Sunday nights in Family Hour and Rocket got canned from his gig at Saturday Night Live for dropping the F Bomb.
This was the only show that I never saw on its original run, so tonite it was a premiere. (On ABC I blew the timing for some reason and missed the first half of the show, so I never got to see it.)
I'm dancing around the episode because I feel rather bummed that rather than building on this and continuing to improve, the writers and producers started to take us down the terminal story line that ended in Lunar Eclipse. Ah, what could have been.

This just in! It was bugging me why I missed the first half hour. Just now I saw (on the main web site database) that the episode originally aired on 2 April 1989. I got married on 1 April 1989 and was on my honeymoon! I suppose I had other things on my alleged mind when I set the VCR clock, eh? (Yes, we are still hitched....God Bless her heart.)

Excuse me, does anyone knows the name and the singer of the song in this episode, while David is photo model Tnx Oh, and during the dinner with his brother, Carla and Maddie, what did Dave said when Maddie just spit the vine?

Turbo, that is Elvis Presley singing "Girls, Girls, Girls" from his movie of the same name (early 60's). As for the dinner scene, David says, "Don't worry, Carla, you'll be back on your feet in no time".
