Now that the dvds are out and folks have had a chance to revisit this groundbreaking show, which season would you have prefered to be the last? Which season finale was the most appropriate to The Story Of Maddie Hayes And David Addison? The answers to the two questions might be different.
Of course I never wanted the show to end! But looking at all five as they were I would have preferred season 4 to be the last because it ended on a very positive note in my opinion. But season 3 had the most appropriate ending - with D/M unable to resist each other and some humor with a runaway car!

For me, the perfect ending would be after Season 4, but with an extra feature episode like the "A Womb with a View", but with a happy ending; Maddie gives birth to David's baby, she finds out that the baby is indeed David's and they embrace a new life together as a family (not necessarily being married, but together).
The "To Heiress Human" ending is indeed funny, but leaves a lot of unanswered questions regarding their relationship for me.

I say season 4, I think. David&Maddie had both chased eachother and come to some sort of agreement to be in eachother lives, which in my head evidently would lead to them being together, married with a family. When season 3 ends, Maddie is still too reluctant to that idea.
I always wish for an epilogue in almost every show or movie I watch though. I just want more. Is it too late for a season 6, btw? LOL

ML needs desperately an epilogue and a good one. Things are tough in the real world, but this does not mean that we shouldn't try to bring upbeat fortunes in our lives. C'mon Glenn, do a Moonlighting fantasies episode

Season 3 or 4 would have been better to end the show with than how season 5 ended, UGH i hate thinking about how season 5 ended! Like Jo said Maddie was still not sure in s3 finale but in season 4 they seemed to be going somewhere good. Oh i wish all the time for not just another season but just 1 little episode to make things right.

I'd take s3 and add an epilogue or something more closure like, that way we can avoid all those episodes with D&M being apart, and the ridiculous marriage. I'd just keep Tracks of my tears fantasy

3rd with epilogue. I think most of us think same. Moonlighting just isn't the same after Cybill's pragnancy.

Season 4. For me "And the Flesh was Made Word"would have been a great ending. So hopeful!

I think the audience would have been wanting more if it all ended at season 3. I think we all want season 3 to be the end now, in light of how it all ended up. Maybe season 3 with an epilogue?
Hindsight being 20/20, of course, I would pick the last episode of season 4. I think it especially works because of the exchange at the end of the episode, in Maddie's office, between D&M, filling their calendars for Tuesday nights at 9, 8-Central. That could have been the way they were going to fill their Tuesday nights since the show wasn't going to be on anymore. And, instead of that Bert "Wooly Bully" time killer at the end, the writers (GGC hadn't completely signed off at this point) could have written a clever ending for the show, in the same fashion as the time-killers they often did at the beginning of the show when they knew it would be short.

This is so hard because part of me doesn't wish for fewer episodes, but considering the path we were led down in Season 5, I would have to agree the series should have ended with the last episode of Season 4. At that point, Maddie finally realized that she wanted David in her life and David was willing to give her another chance and try to work things out. There was hope for a happy ending.
