The logic David uses on Jaime in shower scene has never quite made sense to me. I mean, they're fooling Mrs. Anselmo by taking a shower in David's bathroom?
Okay, I guess that could make sense if Jaime doesn't know they are in David's apartment. But, still... how much alike can Mr. Anselmo and David be that the wife wouldn't recognize the difference?
Yes, we know that the real reason for the deception is to convince Annie to go back to her husband, but still...

This whole episode confuses me. My real question, is David breaking off with Annie becasue of Maddie, or Annie's marriage? And his conversation with Mark. Is David admitiing he was sleeping with annie to get back at Maddie? I just don't get it.

I think that the whole Annie story was going to be a vehicle to bring David and Maddie back together much like the Sam story made David and Maddie face their feelings. Unfortunately, the series was cancelled before it could happen. For the first time all season, we see sparks between them. Even though Maddie acts as if she doesn't care, I don't believe that is the case. Both have admitted that they know each other so well. More often than not, we can hear the truth when spoken from the other. David tells Maddie that she can't stand the thought of him in someone else's arms. She denies this. David finds Maddie in his bed asleep and he orders her out of his bed (sound familiar?). Maddie responds by saying that she has no desire to be in his bed. As far as David breaking it off with Annie, listen to what he says to Mark at the bar. When Mark is speculating about Annie's lover, David says something like, "but what if the guy is just in it for the laughs?" I don't believe David was in love with Annie and realized that he would end up hurting her, so he found a way to make her hate him.

i still haven't watched this episode since getting the dvds.i was on the fence of whether or not i should even try (it's been years). but, after reading lin's post, i may give it a shot. all 4 of the A episodes. too bad they couldn't have at least one more after lunar to make things right.

Please don't hate me for saying this, but I don't really mind the *A* episodes because I feel that there is a bit of the old spark between D and M. I believe that David is really annoyed by Maddie's announcement in the 3rd episode that they are pals. He asks her out for dinner a couple of times over the course of the season, but in a very casual manner. During the dance scene in WGC, David comments that "it's been quite a while since I've steered this pelvis around a dance floor. Maybe we should do this more often". Maddie disagrees. I think that this was David's last attempt to rekindle the relationship. He decided to move on and find happiness elsewhere. Annie just happened to be there looking for some craziness to offset her humdrum life. When David realized that Annie really was not the sort for a fling (based on his conversation with Mark), he decided to back off and let her go.

I totally agree with Lin212. When Maddie and David are dancing, I think what he says to Maddie indicates his "last ditch" effort. She shoots him down and he accepts Annie's advances. ( I am pretty sure it is annie who makes the first move)
In Eine Klein Natch murder (or however it is spelled) I think David is more pissed that MAddie can't admit that she's jealous more than her "medaling' as he claims. In a way, I think he is offended. Like he is thinking "How bad could it be to actually admit you still have feelings for me." She's hurting him by not admitting her feelings and his payback is to inflict more pain on her. For example when detective Donnegan shows up and he leaves Maddie's office mad, his reponse is to call Annie and ask what she is wearing.
I think David finally realizes he has crossed the line when Mark shows up. I just wish Maddie and David had a converstaion that cleared the air once and for all about this.

after finally breaking down and watching these infamous episodes , I agree with you both. I guess since i was so young when i watched them on ABC, i didn't really get it. While I still really don't like these episodes, i can understand them a bit more. David's calling A to ask what she's wearing is so, "i'll show you." A conversation between d/m would have been great. I guess, when it comes down to it, at least it was maddie and david at the church together holding hands for the final shot. They deserve each other. I just wish after maddie says those nice things, david would have said something back. i would have always liked their fake kissing to turn passionate. oh well, i can dream. sometimes i wish the series would've ended w/ I see England.

and when maddie finds about david and jaime, she seems pleased. you'd think the next shot would be at the office w/ d/ m w/ an ending more typical of a regular ML epsisode. a conversation like davidsmaddie mentioned. a love wrap up to quote bruce. then it just gets all too "camille" for me.

Well I don't understand that story too. At least I didn't 'cause I watched it only once and well... I just didn't pay so much attention on that details. I was shocked by David's acting and all the other stuff. But now I've red lin212's comment and it makes sense. Tomorrow I'm going to watch it again and pay more attention. Now I think they are sooo stupid they've canceled this show right then. They could wait a few more episodes so David and Maddie could have time to make it up

I think David did the shower trick to break up with Annie because after meeting with her husband, he just couldn't hurt him. I don't think it had anything to do with Maddie at all. He saw how much Annie's husband loved her and I don't think David wanted to be the one who ruined that.

I agree with you Dave, David was always a guys guy. After he met Annie's husband and knew how much Marked loved Annie, he decided to back off.
I do believe however that he still cared for Maddie, but was upset/hurt by her constantly rejecting him.
