7. Dr. Joyce Brothers and Ray Charles: Genius or Gimmick?
Way more gimmick than genius. Dr. Joyce Brothers appearance is alot more credible, and amkes sense, assuming that Maddie as the analytical and logical one would listen to a psychologist.
Ray Charles...it was fun, but I got the impression that it was more about Bruce wanting to hang with Ray Charles for a day.

8. And now for a little speculation...Maddie tells David she loves him in the laundromat. Do you think this is the first time she's said it (not counting the "goodbye grope" speech)? And putting real-life logistics aside, was there anything David could have said or done in this scene to make her stay?
I'm thinking this is the first time she has actually said it, and meant it...especially when she defines it earlier in the speech "Yeah, fine, I love you....one more big surprise."
And even though I am pretty sure that David couldn't have stopped her, it gets old when he doesn't even try.......whe he just stands there silently while she rants on, or when she even overtly ask -- "Say something, please." Not the first time or the last time he walks away without speaking his mind!
And I just have to make one comment about the laundromat scene.....chesseburgers-- HA! Why would Maddie be longing for the ordinary? This just doesn't ring true...they are not ordinary people.

9. Overall, are David and Maddie's actions and reactions in this episode true to their characters as we have come to know them in Seasons 1-3?
I think Maddie has come farther than she is portrayed in this episode. The shades of grey that she has worked to develop are jerked sharply back to black and white. She mistrusts David too much to be totally believable.
David, I think, is more true to what we have learned and expected of him.

10. Just for fun (and meaning no disrespect to our male colleagues): IMO, David is lookin' pretty fine in this episode. What's your favorite shot of him here?
In the bathroom, in the towel, right after Maddie has told him she thought they should call it off. Hot body, stupified expression.........mmmmmmmm!

Wohooo, jpen. I'm lovin' the Qs! 1. At the end of "To Heiress Human," we left our favorite couple on the verge of being caught in flagrante Bimmer. What were you expecting from the Season 4 premiere? In what ways does TttM hit or miss the mark?I was a little naive at the time (14) so I was thinking to expect a bit of hearts and flowers - my gut told me it might not happen though...TttM missed the mark due to its depressing overtone, and I just had this feeling like, 'haven't we been through all the heavy stuff already?" I just wanted a break from the angst. 3. Maddie's angst is pretty palpable from the moment she sits up in bed. What have these past weeks meant (or revealed) to her? How does her view of their relationship reflect her personality?I have to say that I was indeed irritated by the fact that STILL, she took no enjoyment or satisfaction from the relationship. The first frame, there she is, all upset again. I think that the main thing that's been brewing in the back and front of her mind is FEAR. It seems to be the emotion that's overpowering EVERYTHING. The in-control nature of her personality is causing this intense fear, so she consistently comes off as putting everything she has into maintaining that control. 4. "I feel empty inside!": Is this really how Maddie feels? Or is David right--that she just won't let herself be happy?I think David's partially right, yes - she won't let herself go and just be in the moment. But I don't think it's a 'won't', more like a 'can't'. She certainly isn't empty whatsoever - she's probably more full of everything than she ever has been in her whole life - and that's the problem. She doesn't have a clue what to do with all of it, so she shuts off. 6. How do you feel about David's declaration to the staff?I agree with Glenn and Bruce's comments on the track, something about 'let me tell you a joke..."They were talking about how out-of-character for David to put himself out there in this sense. Plus it felt like a last ditch attempt to inject some positive emotion in a storyline that really wasn't heading anywhere fast. At the time I was swooning, but now, especially with the 'ambivalent' convo that follows, it doesn't mean as much to me. 7. Dr. Joyce Brothers and Ray Charles: Genius or Gimmick?Genius! Wanted to see more analysis from Dr. JB though! 8. And now for a little speculation...Maddie tells David she loves him in the laundromat. Do you think this is the first time she's said it (not counting the "goodbye grope" speech)? And putting real-life logistics aside, was there anything David could have said or done in this scene to make her stay?I think it is the first time, the fact that she said "So, one more big surprise". The rest of us might say "Are you surprised?" Sort of anticlimactic for David! I really could not think of anything that he could have done to haul her back in. He played every card in his deck and then some. If anything he succeeded in getting her to not be sure about ending it. But I think she had one foot out the door from the beginning of the day. 11. And finally...What is the DEAL with the six-minute set piece "David v. the Invisible Prowler"? Prizes will be awarded for any explanation that makes this scene plausible within the context of the episode...Oh, that was painful! The only thing I can offer is that it fits the theme of the episode, David hustling and using every move he knows to keep her with him!

Was Bobby Ewing around anywhere? During the commentary, there were many comments made about Cybill not being around, and even Bruce pointed out parts where her double was used. I think the show ran woefully short, and the whole thing was kind of an ad-lib.
That said, I do think Bruce does a good job with it.....even if it is just plain weird in the context of the episode.

4. "I feel empty inside!” Is this really how Maddie feels? Or is David right--that she just won't let herself be happy?Maybe she needed a cheeseburger. Some hormone things may be at work here, but I’m a guy, so anything I say is going to be wrong. Still, it is quite obvious that the writers are trying to let us, the audience, know that Maddie has a bun in the oven. They have her obviously barfing up breakfast at the office, and later on, in the car, they tease us with the “You don’t WANT to know what I am” bit before devolving into ambivalence. So perhaps they were just thinking that we were going to accept her behavior as a normal part of early pregnancy. The morning sickness deal seems a bit early though. If they are saying they have been fooling around for the last month, it seems a few weeks early for that to start. Hmmm. Maybe this is why she figured it was Sam’s baby and not Dave’s? ? Wow...in 20 plus years, I have never thought of this. I just thought Maddie was in the bathroom being a bit weepy.

And just look at her body language in the scene in her bathroom -- his singing, hell, his mere existence there cause her to physically cringe! Unfortunately, Bruno's album sales show that Maddie was not alone in that reaction. And for the record, I STILL have my Return of Bruno cassette.....but I haven't had a cassette player since like 91. Now Gray......as somebody who has seen Bruce in concert several times (and even sung on stage with him!), I have got to tell you it is always a good time. What he may lack in vocals, he totally makes up for in enthusiasm!
