Good things come to those who spend hours posting script differences.... Lin, I just noticed you've got another star!!! How are things up in the rarefied atmosphere of the 4th level? Congratulations! Thanks, jen. Actually the weather is pretty terrific up here. LOL Thanks to all of you wonderful "essed" friends, the posts have just flown by! It's a pretty great place to visit on a regular basis and I am so grateful to Cindy and Diane for creating this forum where we all can meet.

Point 2 - love everyone's comments re the scene when David and G meet up in the park. That scene has my all time favourite song "This Old Heart of Mine" (see elsewhere on this forum ) There is a very appropriate line in it 'Always with half a kiss, you remind me of what I miss. Though I try to control myself, like a fool I start grinning cause my head starts spinning'. Very accurate description of what is happening on screen IMHO. You are so right, funky. We can't forget this great tune. Another ML stroke of genius!

Hey all! Sorry i'm late, we had a great anniversary Thanks again! Another week of great questions and wonderful answers from you all! 1. The original working title of this episode was “A Blast from the Past”, which was changed to “Knowing Her”. Any insights into why the change? Which title do you prefer? Nope i like the final title better like everyone else, it's more dramatic i think also, cause this wasnt a very fuinny episode and i think the other title seems more comedic maybe. 2. Is there any significance to Gillian walking into Maddie’s office on a day that Maddie absolutely looks the worst we have ever seen her? Oh of course LOL, Maddie looked a mess and Gillian looked all hot LOL But like everyone else here said, Maddie looks hot to us all messy too LOL 3. What new things if any do we find out about David from the scene in Gillian’s hotel suite? We know David has been hurt badly by a woman, then of course we learn he was hurt by Tess and then well Maddie than hurts him too, poor guy But no matter how he was hurt, he jumped right back into helping her with no questions. 6. When Maddie says “You idiot!”….is she only speaking to David, or might part of the utterance be for her? Oh i always thought Maddie was saying it about her self but then she says it later on to David at the funeral, so it really comes into play alot for them both in this episode. David was too trusting so he was the idiot then but i think Maddie opening up like she did felt that made her an idiot.

Third - Given that Maddie taking over City of Angels detective agency and changing the name to Blue Moon would have made the papers (see The Pilot), I am 100% certain that Gillian has everything planned before she walked through the door. My final observation is to do with David and his conversations with police officers - at the station before he rejoins Gillian he tells the cop that he will have to get back to him about the name of the Jetson's maid! What have they been discussing before this scene starts? Thanks for the reminder on the newspaper article, funky...and of course, as others pointed out, the location is the same as City of Angels; I will now feel free to revile Gillian as really, REALLY evil and manipulative (as opposed to just one "really" ). And re the Jetsons thing--just shows how David can charm people, doesn't it? Reminds me of the scene in "Blonde on Blonde," when he goes from being questioned for murder to getting romantic advice! (And I'm pretty sure the answer is Rosie, BTW )

There is never a time when I hear it that I do not think of that scene! The lyrics are very appropriate...so David! I don't like that evil Gillian, but I do love that scene! BTW, I have always liked your avatar.

Well, gang, in case anyone is interested, there are just a couple of script differences left. At the end of ACT THREE, after Detective Barber leaves David's office and Maddie realizes the implication of 2 bullets, she asks Agnes if she knows where Harlan's funeral is being held. Her response is classic Agnes, "Sure...at the cemetary".
ACT FOUR begins with Harlan's funeral. Maddie actually goes into the church and attends the service which is described in some detail.
Great episode, great questions, great discussion. It was fun.

Loved all the extras from the script! Thanks LIN for that! It's definitely a great thing for those who dont have the scripts to be able to enjoy the little goodies! Wish we all could have all the scripts! Off topic alittle: wonder if there is any eyeopener info in the last few epsodes of season 5 scripts. Anyone have any for when the time comes to do those not liked episodes? LOL You know with all our talk here i never thought that maybe Gillian had it all planned out whe she first walked into Blue Moon. But i does make sense to me that she did. It was in the same place but a diiferent name and it was in newspapers too from the pilot like was mentioned here. WOW the things that we see that we may have never seen before is all thnaks to this weekly chat with our wonderful little gang here ! I really enjoy this weekly chat! Ok that was just me rambling , back to the questions

9. And my usual – what is your favorite quotable quote from this episode? i think everyone hit the best quotes here aleady, but the one: "A Gnat with a lobotomy could fool you" is classic ML! 7. The rose…. Should he have or should he not have left it? Why didn’t he? Of course us the viewer gets so mad cause we know more about their feelings for each other right now then they do or care to admit to , so yeah we want him to leave it and can yell at the tv, oh come on Dave leave it! LOL But it's true it's too early in the "relationship" so to speak to leave that much of yourself yet. But he was thinking about it though! Ad of couerse the reminder of being hurt by someone you loved , he wasnt ready to open up yet to Maddie. 8. I'm projecting forward into the show’s future for this question: Gillian’s treatment of David was quite awful. Why does she not evoke the fan emotion…dare I say, hatred….that Annie does? Yes Gillian was awful to our dear David but Maddie and David hadnt established any love relationship yet, it's only a partner/friendship right now. But yeah she was nasty and well hello a Murderer too! Our poor David could have been next! Hmm didnt one of you guys say that here too? LOL AND like it was said here too already, in regaRDS TO Annie being the main one who gets all our hatred by then it was the end of the show and M/D were trying to find a way back together, i think and then BOOM Annie comes to town and well David just forgets all about his past with Maddie and Annie forgets shes Maddies cousin and well UGH! LOL Yeah i hate her with a passion for what she did to Maddie and well i hate Davoi too for what he did to Maddie. So am i making sense? LOL Ok we can hate both Gillian and Annie!

Hey everyone, I have just spent a very interesting 1/2 hour reading through your posts - excellent observations and great insights with the extra bits of script that were not used. I've always loved this song since i heard it on ML! I always think of this scene! It's a great scene and and though you dont want David to kiss any other woman but Maddie you still have to love the scene , and how it's shot and how good the music in the background is too!

2. Is there any significance to Gillian walking into Maddie’s office on a day that Maddie absolutely looks the worst we have ever seen her? 3. What new things if any do we find out about David from the scene in Gillian’s hotel suite? 4. When does Maddie stop being intrigued by the relationship with Gillian and start being jealous? Does she realize it? 6. When Maddie says “You idiot!”….is she only speaking to David, or might part of the utterance be for her? 7. The rose…. Should he have or should he not have left it? Why didn’t he? 9. And my usual – what is your favorite quotable quote from this episode? Ok, I just finished watching this ep, and I hope it's ok if I pick only some of the Q's. 2. I don't know if it's a significance that Maddie looks like "she's had a rough morning". But maybe that scene is to show the difference between the two women: Maddie expected to get a little help, but she wasn't depending on it - as an independent woman, like she pointed out, she would have appreciated a man's help, but she could do without: fixed her tyre all by herself. Gillian, on the other hand, did not only need or appreciate David's help, it was more than that: she was decided to use him (and she did). Oh, I don't know if I put it clear... sorry if that sounds a bit confused... 3. I don't think we find out anything really new about his character - we knew already that he was not superficial (although he tries to hide it sometimes). We find out something about his personal history that maybe can help us understand some of his later behavior (of not betraying too much about his feelings for Maddie - we see that right away in the final scene, when he decides not to leave the note and the rose). 4. I agree with most here, she starts being jealous when he asks her to talk to Harlan. And particularly, I think, in the moment when she realizes David's been talking to Jillian after she had left the office the previous day. 6. Not only part of the utterance was meant for her - my impression was that she was calling herself that in the first place! 7. Of course he should have!!! I was soooooooooo frustrated after the final scene But on the other hand - of course not. This way we, the viewers, could be teased longer with that old is-she-is-or-is-she-ain't-game. Let's face it: more foreplay made the actual consummation much sweeter - just like in real life ;D 9. Oh, I love the "green-eyed-snake"-bit. I have a feeling that already at that moment David was secretly glad about Maddie showing her concern for him. And I love his whole speech in the first scene when he teases Maddie in her office - sooo funny to watch his face and body language, the hand rubbing etc., when he goes on and on provoking her through the closed bathroom door - he really loves to drive her mad, don't he? (and we love it when he does too, don't we??) Ok, those were my thoughts about the ep - I hope someone will comment on them; as I'm new to this analyzing thing, it would be a pleasure to get a feedback. And did I mention in one of my previous posts how much I like it here? So, time for me to go to sleep - it's nearly midnight round here. I hope I'll be back soon. Good night to everybody

...and, after having slept over it, I came up with a few questions by myself, would find it interesting to hear your opinion:
Did anything more happen between David and Jillian, in other words, did they go "horizonty"? Obviously, they spent a lot of time together. Personally, I don't think so, because they would have made know the viewers. But it would certainly have fit in the story.
And, if I come up with that question, I'm sure Maddie may have come to that conclusion too - it would have been possible that it had happened. So why didn't David point it clearly out to her that it didn't happen (if it didn't happen)?
Any suggestions?

Final thoughts about this ep: The more often I watch it, the more I get to hate Jillian! Or let's put it that way: I hate the effect she has on David and the way that scarlet pimpernel manipulates him, and I hate it that she manages to drive him apart from Maddie! Hrmpph! I can't hate this ep, though, because it has great moments of course, and not to mention David is drop-dead-sexy here. Agnes: "Mr. Addison, I should probably warn you..." D: "Yeah, you probably should, but why spoil the fun?" M: "Addison, you sleep in a pen!" D: "Could be. I don't know, lights are always out." D: "Hey partner, what's shaking? Besides you, I mean."

Hi Blue Mooners - I've just read all the comments in prep for watching this ep some time this week. I just love the discussion on here, it's awesome. The extra script insight is great! Must get my hands on some scripts :-) Love tha fact that they were always going to reveal more...then don't, to keep us teased. It's great knowing that the writers wanted it too and had to keep restraining themselves. However, wish they hadn't restrained themselves in a straight jacket for series 5 :-(. It was time to stop restraining then - they should have pulled out the big guns! Anyways - I'll be back when I've watched :-) xxx

Hey - Moonlighting Strangers, who just met on the way...
'I'm singin' in the rain...what a glorious feelin', I'm happy again' yey managed to watch a few eps at last. It's been a loooong first week back after Christmas holidays- and now I feel like I've been back forever.
I haven't seen this ep in ages! Note to self: must watch this one more often as Bruce is absolutely lush (or drop dead sexy as Sandra puts it) in this one ;-) Re-read comments again too - just to remind me what's going down on this one. I'm with you again on this one Sandra - don't like how much the scarlet pimpernel crawls under his skin at all- he spent far too much time on her, when there was a perfectly gorgeous, mud stained, wild haired bombshell waiting back at Blue Moon for him- and she can change her own tyre). However, it was a good glimpse of how committed he can be to one person and how much he has to offer a woman (excuse me whilst I swoon).
One of my many favourite things about Moonlighting is the kooky music they use to add humour - and this ep is no exception! A particularly good example is when he's searching for her in the office when she's 3 hours late- you just wouldn't get that touch on any other show would you? His reaction to her appearance is superb and the shot from behind her and through her legs is inspired! The comedy shone through in so many ways- quite literally here :-)
The Gillian/Maddie meeting is just typical of when you meet an ex - in your fantasy you're always looking stunning but in reality you've probably had a bad day and it shows. Glenn, was not only trying to show David that Maddie even looks hot after a bad day, he was trying to make the audience feel for her and maybe relate a bit to this independent woman. She's everything Jillian isn't - Jillian needs to use men to get what she wants; Maddie does everything for herself and is proud.
Ugh - hate it when Jillian says, all simpering 'I thought you worked for City of Angels?' - the manipulation and games have already begun. Also, everyone on here is right when they pointed out Bruce's superb acting here - he so does age in a split second - that's the face that holds the flowers when Sam answers the door in season 3. He does hurt very well! Wow.
I was impressed with how candid David was with Jillian in the apartment scene - we do learn a lot of new David stuff here - oodles. Again, a glimmer of the man when he's in a serious relationship. up until now, the audience kind of see him as a 'love 'em and leave 'em Addison' but we now realise that is all part of his act- and when that mask slips he's a sensitive and deep character. I guess that's why we love him. We also wish Maddie could see more of this side of him.
Oh that green eyed snake appears very early on :-) Dare I say it, it could even be when she sees his initial reaction to Jillian before he pulls it back together. That's the first time she's seen him like this. Obviously it becomes more glaring at the hospital - and when she's watching them together we see that look, that unfortunately makes a repeat performance in series 5. I like Maddie jealous in series 2 - it's a great audience tease. Nice touch when she's playing with his magnifying glass in his office - do you miss him Maddie? :-) She cares! And an audience rejoices!
Ooooh yes - the overlapping dialogue was used very differently here huh? Usually for moments of comic genius and timing, this time we are thinking 'shut up and listen David!'. Very unusual that they didn't hear each other in this one - as they usually do hear and respond to bits of the dialogue - so I suppose it leaves us guessing. Oh and yes, Maddie is saying 'idiot' to herself, regarding the fact that she's just opened up a bit to him but he was all wrapped up in Jillian. Although he is indeed an idiot in this scene.
David's 'blind spot' is what holds this next paragraph together. He sure does have a blind spot with women doesn't he? Never sees any of the bad stuff coming bless him. Again, it's what, combined with his hot looks, humour and sensitivity, that makes us love his character. That cocky singing Addison that walks in at the end with the rose, doesn't leave it through fear of this very blind spot. That line Jillian says to him 'I was never going to have what I wanted with you' causes him to really lose confidence - and there are echoes with what Maddie says to him in later series...
Favourite moments- the mud scene and the funeral chase - classic!
Quotable quotes: As well as the classics that have already been mentioned 'It wasn't even a fling, it was a fl...'; 'Do you wanna hear something terrible? You're not going to sing again are you?'
What a great ep and so well placed among the comedy- it was such a successful teasing back then.
See you around BlueMooners xxx

Oh and yes, Maddie is saying 'idiot' to herself, regarding the fact that she's just opened up a bit to him but he was all wrapped up in Jillian. I love this forum! Learn something new every day, all those different points of view! bms, you added a completely new one! I already pointed out that I think Maddie called herself an idiot in this scene, but I didn't think she did it because of opening up to him, but because of not doing it clearly enough! She should have snapped her fingers in front of him or give a sharp whistle and call out "Yo, fella, listen to me, I've got something important to tell ya!" But she let that chance pass, and that's why she called herself idiot... maybe. Did I mention I love this forum?
