What do you think of David's reaction to Maddie's hug after they get their first case? All through the episode, he is pretty comfortable putting his arm around her waist, but he gets all weird when she jumps on him.

Totally understandable, that's a beautiful Lady...and if I'm not mistaken, she has on a skirt....woooo ! I don't know too many men who would be as cool as David is touching her...yes he got weird but probably because one of his fantasies came true so quickly, except she was clothed, lol~

I mean, yeah, she did jump in his arms when they found the dead guy in the Jag's back seat in the pilot, but this was different. SHE made the move. In all the other cases, old Dave was doing the leading. And yes, he had his arms all OVER her in this episode. Lucky SOB. I shoulda taken acting classes.

Since, I've really got to disagree.....I think that Maddie is determined to make the best of a bad situation in order to make this agency work.....but the only thing I see her exuding is disdain. There is the basic concern there that anyone would have for another human being, especially a coworker, but I don't think the spark has yet been lit......at least on Maddie's part. I do agree that she is determined to make good, and to show this guy she is up to the task, and I believe she is proving to him that she will not wither up and blow away at the first sign of adversity.. I hear ya Diane yet that mind game in the alley (the first of many for our dear Maddie) when she says forget the whole thing and walks away because he won't let her try. IMO, the whine in her voice is symbolic of "let me try, I can do it" like she has something to prove...maybe it's just to herself...maybe it's the excitement but it's more than "let's make this work because I don't have any other choice". PS~Your presence was definitely missed! ;D I am liking this conversation!! It is one that has been held elsewhere on the boards, only here it is about how we FIRST see MAddie. I do agree that Maddie was only trying to make the best out of a bad situation and I did not think she necessarily showed admiration or respect for David, not yet, anyway. What I am trying to say is I think we see the inner core of Maddie's character right here. Idealistic, innocent, romantic, sympathetic, determined, strong-willed.... But, that little stare down on his lips meant something......she is attracted to him. Who wouldn't be, right? The sparks aren't firing yet, on Maddie's side. David, on the otherhand, is hooked!! Do I think he is in love? Maybe. Do I think he is in love in the next episode? Absolutely!!

Adding questions to the thread during discussion is so cool...keeps the 'essed on their toes~

There are so many gems tucked into this script. Which ones are your favorites? Here are some of mine.
When David runs across the street to the other agency and is telling the receptionist to look "nonchalant" and then says "nonchalanter".
"I'm still mad at you, Tiny" as David picks himself up from the bar floor.
"Friend to friend, we want off this case."
"I didn't make any promise to him" which continues with David's interpretation of what a "promise" is.
"June, relax. I'll have a chat with the boys. Wally? Beave? Guys? Fellas? Guys?"
Just a few of the many lines that make me grin.

All through the episode, he is pretty comfortable putting his arm around her waist, but he gets all weird when she jumps on him. I think it was a very awkward and embarrassing moment for David. He is smitten and already dreaming about her and there she is suddenly in his arms!! And he did go out and bring ol' Farley/Tate. Could be he was feeling a tad bit guilty because Maddie was so happy under false pretenses. See--he already is trying to do whatever it takes to make her happy!!!....and of course, save his job!! The hug for Maddie, though, I thought was simply a reaction to what she thought was very good news. She seemed a little shy for a second or two because she inadvertently ended up in his arms. But, I feel she is just focused on business.

Couple of parting shots (gunfight...shots....get it??)
1. In this ep you got to see a rare thing, a camera shot of Dave and Maddie in the Bimmer that came from the side window. They almost always used separate cameras for each of them and had the angle coming through the windshield. Plus they weren't wearing seatbelts. And when the car stopped the brakes squealed a bit. Bimmer brakes never squeal. (This coming from a pompus BMW owner.)
2. Michael Wrye is seen recocking his shotgun for emphasis. But it is EMPTY! Loaded guns have rounds fly out of the chamber when you cock them more than once.
3. I just love the way Cybill smiles during and at the end of the alley scene and again when she has to button back up. It seemed perfectly natural and it looked as though she was really enjoying the work.
4. I promise to be back here next week. But remember, a promise is something you make very late at night to someone you’ll probably never see again so you can get to the good stuff. Nah, I'll be here. This is too cool to miss.
