Did any of you folks happen to see this on its original run? They had a neat pre-titles sequence where D&M were discussing ways to get more viewers to turn in. Maddie wanted socially revealing programming. Dave wanted nudity. To settle the dispute, they contracted with the Viola Institute of Advanced Shenanigans that developed a reverse polarity machine that could rate viewers reactions to each proposal. With Maddie's PBS type option, there was polite applause. To David's suggestion of hooters galore, well, the meter was pegged. Maddie would not cooperate, however, and Dave had the wobblies come in and begin a strip tease when they faded to the titles sequence. Yeah, I remember that!!! I wonder what else we don't have from the original airings on these DVD's~

Gray, I don't remember it from the original run, but wasn't it on youtube for a bit?

Could have been on You Tube. Maybe I'll see if I can rip it and ship it to Cindy to put on the website.

Off topic I know but while I was looking for the opening to TMWFE, I found this parody of ML on a detective show called "Riptide"...it's about 8 minutes of stuff. The guy doing D/B does ok, the M/C chick sucks...here's the link for a quick giggle. www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYmjkjzr0MI

hey all! I'm here finally! i was being entertained by my hubby with songs off YT LOL OK i'm also tired and full from my big Irish dinner But anyway... We got more great questions this week! Thanks JPEN and GRAY! We all sure miss Diane here too this week! Well this episode is one of the better of season 5 for me yes, though it can IRK me alot too with certain scenes. Sometimes i can enjoy the M/D banter as it is now shown in s5 and other times here i just feel they are getting too mean with each other. Ahh this is only the start , the meanest they get comes the last few episodes Ok let me try to answer some questions before bed time : Q1: The Teenymobile in this episode is actually a Yugoslavian built Yugo GV, imported to the US for several years starting in 1985. It was notoriously unreliable and dangerous. It was joked that they put in the heated rear window to keep your hands warm while you pushed it. What was the worst car YOU ever owned? AHH the good ole YUGO Maddie gave David. What can you really say about it but ok this is not a car i think of when thinking of David A. LOL That boy needs a fast car! LOL I never had a car that bad, but my first was a Chevy gosh cnat think of the name, it had a hatch back LOL It was my college car too. I did have a Ford that was kinda a lemon after that ,then i moved on to HYUNDAI which for me were very good to me. Now i've got a Kia Sedona. Not my dream vcar people but it's a good family car. Yup still dreaming of a new BMW! LOL Q2: One of the themes of this episode centers around gift giving. We see Nathan Craft going all out in purchasing gifts for his girlfriend. Did anyone ever purchase an expensive gift or gifts in an attempt to gain your favor? Did it work? Did YOU ever try it on someone else? How did THAT work out? What did you think of David's reaction to Maddie's gift? It's true we have never seen M or D give each other gifts right? Well maybe it did have to do with the other thinking oh how can i be the first one to give a gift i'll look like i love the person more maybe. M/D always had that against them i think , they didnt want to be known as the one who loved the other more out of fear . I'm not sure but just thinking thats why. But i feel David really acted ungreatful with the gift, yes it was a lousy choice of a car, so not our David and it so makes you think what the heck was wrong with Maddie to pick it out, i'm sure there was a little more money hanging around to get a better car no? LOL But yes Maddie does beam ,like she is so proud of what she did for David but David is like :this is a joke right? I also wished he would have kissed her cheek , that would have seemed sweeter dont ya think? Q8: “Well, I would’ve given you one if you’d given me one.” Discuss. I think i just discussed this one above, so see above LOL They were always waiting for the other to make the move on everything it sure seems doesnt it? I just want to smack them both upside the head sometimes! LOL

C'mon people...Gray, Lin, Rose (and all else say David was not as convincing regarding his love for Maddie's present to him) Just think, in accordance to his reaction...how would you like to go from a BMW to a yugo? When I tally the difference in vehicles, his reaction is worthy of an Emmy, lol~

I totally remember this, I didn't realize it wasn't included in the DVD until you mentioned it. Still have it on VHS somewhere...

Sorry for being so late! My internet connection has been out and is still a little iffy right now.
Thanks for the fun questions!
Q1: The Teenymobile in this episode is actually a Yugoslavian built Yugo GV, imported to the US for several years starting in 1985. It was notoriously unreliable and dangerous. It was joked that they put in the heated rear window to keep your hands warm while you pushed it.
What was the worst car YOU ever owned?
I guess the worst for me was in high school. Did not have my own car, but was able to borrow the family station wagon. Gold with panels that looked like real wood!! I played chicken with a school bus one afternoon. I won, but the bus driver did not think so!!
The next worse, I guess, was a blue Volkswagen Beetle---early 1970 model. Actually was my boyfriends in high school, who ended up being my boyfriend in college! Drove the thing with the little side windows open in the winter time because the heater was stuck! Boyfriend could unhook it in the summer!! It wasn't a bad car, really.
BTW, the boyfriend became my husband of 28 years this August!.....and the Beetle...well it lost out to a huge 1978 Cadillac one afternoon when the guy pulled in front of me ....crunched the trunk pretty bad!!

What did you think of David's reaction to Maddie's gift?
I think he was trying really hard to be nice. He saw that Maddie was excited about giving it to him. But, he did not want to be seen in a car like that!!
Truthfully, I really think Maddie was smart enough to know that his reaction was one of just being polite as possible. And really, I never thought that Maddie would have picked out such a gift, but this is S5 we are talking about.

Q3: One common complaint about the Season 5 writing is that it is no longer true to David and Maddie’s characters. Overall, how do you feel this episode ranks in that department? Well, the more I watched this one, the more I did not like it. But, it is actually one of the better episodes in S5. I guess what I do not like is that Maddie is written as if she is completely finished with David, or just really distant. The way she asks him if he is seeing other people and dating just seems weird. It makes the kiss at the end seem so out of place. Actually, it made me a little sad...but I do like that kiss. I think the writing for David stayed true to his character. He comes running in late for work, Maddie gripes at him about his finances, he covers up the feelings he typically wears on his sleeve, he practices his kissing with female wobblies and he does not want to take a case that Maddie wants. Yet, I do see and underlying trail of growth and it seems his place in life is to make Maddie happy. He can't let that go....hence, the pearls.

Q4: What, if any, significance do you find in Betty Russell’s heart attack/epiphany? (And Colleen Dewhurst just rocks, doesn’t she?)
Okay, I am probably way over thinking this one...LOL!! .... but, this episode has really made me sad about the whole end of the show and this question made me realize why.
It is about broken relationships and matters of the heart. Sometimes broken hearts can be repaired quickly, other times it may take time to mend. Ms. Russell's heart attack is a huge ol' symbol!! Her heart was broken and repaired and then she had a vision that she should listen to heart more and do good by her client and help mend her relationship with her husband. From her view of things after the court hearing, a broken heart is harder to mend than she thought.
And we are left to believe, by Maddie and David's conversations in this episode, that the mending of their broken hearts may take more time and more work as well.

Q5: David does not want to take a job “crowbarring relationships…day in, day out.” Maddie guesses this is because his own marriage ended badly, but it’s pretty obvious that she’s wrong. What do you think really bothers David about being on divorce detail?
I have always been puzzled by David's reaction to Maddie's question. It was another weird moment in this episode, for me anyway! Bad editing, maybe. Looked like several takes on the scene all chopped up and put together!!
But, I do think he was sincere in not wanting to take the case because, like someone else has said, it always seemed like cases like this would end up being about him and MAddie. I think he was just tired of thinking of all of the negative things about their relationship and he knew MAddie would direct the case in such a way.

Q6: As they watch Nathan and Jolene in the restaurant, Maddie and David dissect the other couple’s body language. How do you think their comments connect to the current state of their relationship?
This is another moment that makes me sad....I am glad they are at least talking, but they are beating around the bush about themselves!!And Billy Joel's song. "Just the Way You Are" is playing in the background!!! That was very clever!! Because the discussion does become about "the way they are"!! And WE know they love each other just the way they are!
But their conversation does lend to some clues as to how they are feeling about their own relationship to this point.
When Maddie asks him if he is seeing anyone he says, “dating is a lot like war. Mostly waiting”. Hmmmm.......he is the prince of waiting, is he not?!?
Maddie:”At least we have a nice place to wait” David:”We’ve waited in worse”. Yeah, he waited in misery for 4 1/2 months.
Maddie”What’s up with you lately” David:”The usual”
Maddie:” no, I mean your life outside the office” David:”I have no life outside the office” ……uh, didn’t he come in late for work that morning looking like he drank the night before away? Or is he really saying that he wants his life to be MAddie and Blue Moon. It is all he really wanted for about 5 years now.
David:”Nothing like a few phony baloney manners to get girls doing back flips for you." Maddie:”I think it is romantic”
Maddie:”David you’ve pulled plenty of chairs out for me." David: "See it works like a charm." .....now it seems David is working really hard to hide his true feelings. He did all of those little things for Maddie for a reason. He just does not want her to see it that way right now.
David:"Their not talking. " Maddie:"They have nothing in common. " David: "Just because they're not screaming at each other like most tv couples." This was really funny! And if the viewer had not picked up on the fact that this little lunch conversation was more about them than who they were spying on, it was revealed right here!

Q7: What do you think is the tone of David and Maddie’s conversation in the mall? Are we being led to believe that there’s a chance they’ll get back together? I like the fact that they are actually having a serious discussion about THEM!! What is glaringly (is that a word??!) obvious to me is how they began their relationship. They really did not spend time together other than case work. I mean dating and such. Everything got so twisted up with Sam coming to town, etc..... Their beginning was really the middle....or the ...uhem!.....climax!! So all of the time most couples spend gift giving or actually talking was sort of skipped over. I think we are led to believe that maybe there will be a chance, particularly after the kiss and pearls. So yeah, we were sucker punched again in the last few episodes!!
