I believe he does not really understand what he is feeling until MAddie says, "...start with a clean slate..." It hits him right then and there....hey, I am not the one that caused all of this mess. Why are you talking about a clean slate? He unloads what he is thinking, but NOT what he is afraid to talk about. I swear, those two. I just want to yell and say TALK already, would 'ja!!!! Yes Bees, David is like "say whaaat?"....and understandably so...he then reminds Maddie of all the choices she made that led them to their current state of being as a couple. You're right, just like in any relationship, communication is necessary. Maybe this was a representation of the writers choosing sides (all the internal turmoils) and not talking...could be.

Diane, I am going crazy....what song is your signature from?? It's from a song called "Right Here All Along" by Amanda Marshall. I've used a lot of her stuff in my writing. This particular song is found on the "Tuesday's Child" CD.

My opinion -- while I love the missing parts of the script, and I love thinking about the possibility of the two of them living together, I think the timing for them would have been just plain bad. Maddie, David, Walter, Terri, Chicago.....all rolled together in a magnificent jumble...with not enough time in between to clear their heads and really think. I love the idea of them considering living together, I love them trading keys (although, we know David already had a key), and I would have loved to spend the summer anticipating season 5. Diane, thank you so much for taking the time to post these alternate scenes...and like the new signature, BTW! Great googly moogly, I wish I had been a fly on the wall at the script meeting...though I can tell you I would've dive-bombed the coffee cup of the writer who stood up and said, "David and Maddie make a commitment? Naaahhhh... that's not what the public wants to see!" Seriously, though, one part of my brain (the rational, English-teacher side) agrees that the living together angle would've been too much, too soon; that David would still be too angry; that there would still have been too many unresolved issues. But the other side of my brain...the other side...the impetuous romantic in me can't help but wanna punch the air and say, "YESSSSS!! For the love of Pete, we've been waiting for this since THH!" (Uh-oh...now it's whispering insidiously: "And what do you think happens next? They gotta come out of those offices sometime..." Since, throw that DeLorian into reverse, baby--I'm comin' with you!! ;D) I like the key exchange, it presents a whole new scenario dynamic...at least the relationship doesn't reflect a death...it would have push the writers to be more creative, more imaginative for working out the love D & M feel above their insecurities. Something more to overcome...proving love truly conquers all...that's why I love ML...that's what it's about for me. No matter how different David and Maddie's worlds are...no matter what they've endured...their love conquers all! I see the key exchange as a step forward, an admission that they both feel deeply in spite of the gut wrenching twists and turns. D & M understand this means they are exclusive to one another...they would still have their own spaces but the key exchange is a committment to working out their challenges. Like David said in the edited version of the script, " ‘Cause like it or not, we do have a pattern, we do have a history, you ‘n me have a chemistry like nitro and glycerin, ‘n the one plain and simple truth of it is there ain’t nothin’ we can do about it! That’s the way it’s been, that’s the way it is, that’s the way it’s always gonna be." That's why we are all here and in love with David & Maddie. Their love did not reach its fullness, leaving the truly 'essed wanting. Like Rose's signature says "All I want is David and Maddie's happy ending"!

Flesh subplot....scene two......... .................... David (sarcastic): ‘N you’d just be perfect, wouldn’t you? A MOMENT…and then…. The two of them turn to each other …… Maddie: Never’ve worked. David: Never’ve worked. And they stare off straight ahead……....................................... I think this is funny as hell!!....toe nail clippings in the bed??!!! This is a prime example of how the writers worked us as viewers and fans!! They are TALKING folks!! They needed to do more of that to air out all the bad and get to the good stuff....

LOL LOL!! Rose, maybe she will do 2 for one!!! Set up the appointment and I'll meet ya there!!

OK……post number three from the script. This is the TAG, which replaces the M&D making their Lamaze appointments TAG. FADE IN: ON THE BLUE MOON OFFICE …early morning….seemingly empty…and then…. DAVID …sneaks out of Maddie’s office…mischief written all over his face… ON MADDIE …slipping out of David’s office surreptitiously… ......................................................................................................................................................... ON MADDIE …reading the tag…. Maddie: “Casa Addison?” …and then a big smile spreads across her face as she settles back in her chair, holding the key between the palms of her hands…and we… CUT TO DAVID: …in his office…quite obviously pleased with himself, and then taking another pull on the orange juice container, he replaces the carton in the refrigerator…and then, turning towards his desk, he notices a brightly gift wrapped…BOX…lying on his blotter…. ON DAVID ..crossing to his desk…he picks up the box….OPENS IT and finds a smaller, similarly wrapped BOX which he opens to find ANOTHER SMALLER BOX, which gives way to yet a still SMALLER BOX…out of which falls a…. HOUSE KEY …on a key ring with a brass tag… David (reading): “Chez Hayes” CLOSE ON DAVID …as a big smile spreads across his face…and then, giving the key a little toss in the air….we…. FREEZE FRAME THE END Gosh, I know the tag that aired has all of the "elements", but I think I like this one better! I like what aired and sort of understand why they chose that one, but the one diane shared has another "element".....the idea that the writers BELIEVE that MAddie and David SHOULD and MUST be TOGETHER!! ....sorry about the "yelling". Guess they thought they had to mess with us some. I can take it....only they crossed the line with AWWAV.

Hye Rose, I am pretty sure we can still hate "Tale in Two Cities", and think that David still has a clean slate. I don't think I ever said anything like this before, but David's one nighter was such a guy thing.....and he was just so miserable after it.....I'm pretty sure he suffered enough. So true Diane he sure showed it at the end of the episode, he wasnt some happy guy who just got with some woman, he was probably feeling worse off after what had just happened. Sure didnt help him feel any better. I hated TiTC and will admit this is the only time I hated David!! But......I forgave him!! LOL!! He did look like a miserable little puppy afterwards. Although, I do wish we could have seen them address this issue. I think it would have made David feel better....eventually! (jpen's fanfic "Breathing Lessons" takes care of the matter rather nicely!!)

Well put, bees. The alternate tag does have that extra "something". The exchange of keys implies much more than the ending we got. Don't get me wrong, I liked the ending - until I read this one. It's more sexy, isn't it?

And bees--I couldn't agree with you more wholeheartedly--Season 5 was ultimately a betrayal of what, IMO, was the central tenet of the show: that Maddie and David were destined to end up together, no matter what. Kismet, remember? S'OK...I still believe!!! ;D
