....(honestly, we've incorporated the Addison clan into so much of Virtual, that sometimes I forget which parts are REAL ML, and which are VM "fantasies".) diane LOL!! I find that so funny, diane!! I thought the readers only had that problem.....kind nice to know you share the affliction!!! Now speaking of VM----and you brought it up!!----turn on the lights, will ya??!! So true, bees! OMG, I just had a thought...wouldn't it be great if 2009 is the year we get a reunion movie AND more VM?!? I think I would pass out from ML-induced euphoria! Diane, I think it's official--we're beggin' ya...(but no pressure!) ;D

4. When do you think Maddie's feelings toward Richie change? Have her feelings for David changed at all by the final scene? Well it sure seems to be after David gives her the money i think, She leaves and obviously Ritchie is invited over her house then and Maddie has it in her mind that David gave her the money so she must have been thinking about it, and we know Maddies a thinker so she may find Ritchie nice and all but deep down she knows it's not right. She trys to tell him at her place and then David shows up. He's her Knight in Shining Armour(ok alittle not shiny maybe? LOL) Like it was mentioned here by others, Maddie finds out the money came from Ritchie and i think also she knew that it was really hard for David to have to ask Ritchie for the money. She definitley sees David in a new light.

6. What do you think is Maddie's "terrible confession"? Well it makes you think is it about David, was she thinking about him since he gave her the money at the office? is it that she knows shes not interested in Ritchie in a romantic way and doesnt want him to get the wrong idea? Well when Daivd shows up and they ask who is it,and find out it's David, Maddie to me says Davids name kinda breathlessly dont ya think? Can't wait to get to another Ritchie episode It also makes me wonder what of D/M relationship Ritchie finds out about. Does David seem like he would tell his brother about the 2 of them when it finally happens? They didnt seem to share much in the personal dept. Ahh so much i wished they could have shown .

I think what we see in that little funny scene right before David comes crashing through the door is one of many revelations that Maddie has about David. She's been doing her own thinking, trust me, and she knows that Richie is nice, but he ain't David!! And, this is the biggie, imo, she knows that David has been more than a little distracted by her involvement with his brother. Is she worried or just enjoying the fact that he may be a tad bit jealous? Aha!!! There is more between the two of them that either is willing to admit!! So.....David comes through the door just when she was going to admit a little bit of her feelings for David to Richie. I know it, you know it, we know it and THEY know it!! But of course, we could not hear IT yet!!

That's the truth, Maddie is very aware of this distraction. The fact that at the end she tells David she would have dropped Richie at the airport without parking, shows her desire to let David know how unimportant Richie is compared to him. Aaah, what a LOVE story!

I little tidbit I gleaned while watching the episode. During the beginning scenes, that supposedly occured in South Philly, we see a dead giveaway that the filming took place in California. Plates. License plates. Front plates to be exact. While the crew was pretty smart to throw Pennsylvania plates on the cars in the parking garage (including Richie's Rambler), they made a tactical error by putting on FRONT plates on a number of vehicles. Pennsylvania does not issue front plates. I am assuming they did this to hide the front California plates on the vehicles in the scenes. If they were smart, they would have added a bunch of Jersey plates as well. Anybody in Philly knows that loads of folks cross the Delaware Ocean from NJ to get a breath of fresh Keystone air!

Hey kids! Here I am! Finally! So, I promised you thunder and lightning last night... Oh brother, I'd better switch the old light bulb on! 1. What do we learn about Growing Up Addison in this episode? What, if any, bearing does this have on David's "live fast--die young--leave clean underwear" motto and seemingly incessant optimism? I realized I haven't answered the second part of the question, i.e., Did David's childhood have any responsibility for his incessant optimism? My answer is: Yes, of course. In this episode we come to know he hasn't exactly good memories of his family environment. David states he has an older brother who annoys him. "The folks liked him better", as Richie himself would remark, sitting on Maddie's couch. David obviously believes his brother Richard's favorite hobby is putting him in a bad light to the eyes of anybody. He did it in the past, and he is repeating his number now by using Maddie as a powerful tool to diminish David's self-esteem. And it works. He feels second to Richie. No matter how hard he tries to deny it to himself and Maddie, he feels inferior. For example, take the scene in the car, when they're heading for the restaurant.. David can't say anything but bad words about his brother: Richard is a failed science project, never worked an honest day in his life, etc. etc... That's just a way to cope with feelings of inadequacy. Furthermore, in "The Son Also Rises" we make the acquaintance of David's father, an inflexible, strict, demanding man who wastes no time in mortifying his second son. Remember Dave's line? "He makes me feel so..." ...insignificant, I would conclude for him. So here we come to the point I wanted to make: The right frame of mind can transform criticism that is nasty, petty, insincere, biased, and even profane, into gold. That is: if you take things light, they're less prone to hurting you. Reality hurts. Brooding over reality hurts. Optimism heals every wound. It's just a way to come to terms with the fact that people who are supposed to accept and love you for what you are (mother, father, brother, sister, relatives, whoever...) think otherwise. It's a shield. You put your tongue out at their rules. You kid around with the society and its restraints. You avoid the ones who inflicted you pain. Cheers! David is a rebel, he's the present-day James Dean. So people don't accept him for who he is? Who cares? No matter how big he becomes, he's never, ever going to change! OK, I've got one more post to (write and) post!

Optimism heals every wound. ~Words to live by, great synopsis of David's personality! Great post IBM and thanks for the therapy~

OK, I'd like to expand my answer to the first part of the following question... 3. Why does David tolerate (encourage?) Richie's flirtation with Maddie? And what exactly is fueling David's anger the next day?Why does he tolerate Richie's moves on Maddie? One word: trade. David's uttermost wish (like many of you said so well) is to see Maddie happy. He would do anything for her (oh my, the words I just typed remind me of the final scene in "The Dream Sequence..."... "He would have done anything for her" ...), even... put his pride aside. So what does he do? Does he come out of the shadows, rush down to the dance floor, grab Richie by the lapels and shake his daring away? No. He bears the pain. With a purpose, though: Richie gets the girl, David gets the money. Maddie gets happy = David is happy. And that's what true Love is all about: giving without expecting anything in return. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Now, if it's not too late, I'd like to add a question: Does David's perception of Richard change in the course of the episode? If so, when and why? I do believe so. First he considers him as a pain in the neck, as a...Oh well, I'm not going to bore you with things you read in my previous post! So, when do things change? At Maddie's. David had not a clue as to what Richard thought of him... until then. Richard tried to impress him all his life, tried to show him he deserved to be his brother. Nevertheless, despite all his efforts, David's coolness has always been beyond his reach. So what does Richie attempt at doing? He tries to buy his brother's respect. This revelation has David stumped. So what we have here is a crossed misunderstanding (and that's why they come to blows): a) David thinks Richie is perpetuating his demolition work on his (David's) ego, and also thinks his older bro is an idiot because he wastes his energies on hopeless businesses; while b) all that Richie was trying to do with those crazy inventions of his was impress Dave, and his recent actions are just one more desperate, rushed attempt at what seems to have been the goal of his life. In the end, everything is set straight, the kinks are worked out... And that's why David can finally admit to himself that he really loves his brother. OK gang, I think that's all I had to say! Thanks for reading!
