Why does he tolerate Richie's moves on Maddie? One word: trade. Outstanding! I totally agree... Thanks!

A quick comment and then I have to get back to work.... Back when Diane and I interviewed Glenn Caron in 2002, he informed us that his original intent was to have David Lee Roth play Richie. Think how different this episode would have been tweaked...or the character of Richie would have been if DLR was the brother. Back in 1985 DLR was a big rock star. Big. But he had/has a wicked sense of humor.

DLR would have been a great choice! I could have seen how he would have zeroed in on Maddie immediately, and I think there would definitely have been some "chemistry" involved there that would have required dear old Dave to really up his game.
Maybe in the reunion movie........
WHOA! ALERT!! ALERT!!
I just noticed a promotion to SECOND LEVEL! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank the academy..........

David Lee Roth!? Oh my Badness!! I can see him serenading Maddie at her house: ... She's a vision from coast to coast (coast to coooast!) sea to shining sea (sea to shining seeeeaaa!) Hey, sister, you're perfect host (perfect host!)
Show me your bright lights! And your city lights! All right! I'm talkin' 'bout the Yankee Rooose! Bright lights! In your city lights! All right! I'm in love with the Yankee Rooose!
AHHHH!
Ah, she's beautiful, alright, mm, nothin' like her in the whole world. Yeah! She's right on time, I'm on the case Pick up the phone, no time to waste She got the beat and here's a little bit comin' your waaaaaaaayy!
WHEW!
Bright lights, city lights...
...On a second thought, the writers DID make him "serenade" Maddie (even if only from the beemer stereo)! "The Son Also Rises", gang... And, (what a coincidence!) That's the first S3 episode, just like "Brother..." (where he was supposed to play Richie) is the first S2 ep! Curious, no? Tony, my man! WELCOME to the SECOND LEVEL!!!! Our favorite bros got you a well deserved promotion!! P.S If you need 'em, you know where to find the screen caps of next Tuesday's episode...

Ok, I think Maddie was initially attracted to Richie because he was a charming Addison and one that she felt was attainable because she was not his employer, like with the other Addison. Richie is clearly attractive so that didn't hurt either. I kind of feel like Richie and Maddie were the same age and Maddie liked this. David was the little brother and she automatically assumed Richie would be more 'mature'. Let's just pretend that Maddie called her home to check her messages and got a message from a girlfriend she decided to return from the bar. Good Lord, anything else is too hokey. The 'terrible confession' I think was going to be "I really cannot let this go any further Richie. I feel it may be hurting David". She always liked to think that David was the one pining for her, not the other way around. This way she didn't admit any feelings other than pity and concern for poor love-sick David.

2. Why do you think Maddie is attracted to Richie? Do you find their chemistry plausible? How does our perception of Richie differ from Maddie's? Chemistry? There is none I think, she just finds him nice and entertaining - kind of a "David light", means without that provoking her and without that undefinable but dangerous (in her eyes) attraction she denies (but knows!!) she feels. - O gosh, a complicated sentence, maybe too much for my english skills? hope I made myself clear. Anyway, I think that after a short time she sees that "David light" is nothing but - boring!

Didn't Bruce give an absolutely fine performance there?? I so much love it how he shows David being very upset about the situation, that look when he watches Maddie and Rich dance tells everything; he even looks away because he can't bear watching them! Great stuff in the final scene too, when he admits reluctantly his love for his bro. Also, the following day after giving Maddie that money he'd borrowed from his brother, after she'd left, when he's snapping at Agnes and ordering her to "shut the hell up" about the miraculously "found bank account" I can hear his voice almost breaking! Awesome! Maddie seems to realize that she might feel something for David she herself can't quite put her finger on (not for the first time, though - IMO that was already in "Next murder"); she wants to bring him to say something about his feelings about Maddie and Rich getting along, wants to see that he's not invulnerable. Of course, he won't let it out. And she's disappointed that he won't accept her tearful thanks. Has very funny moments too; I crack up when at the restaurant Maddie tries to calm down the upcoming fight between the brothers, hissing at one after the other "Addison!!" Absolutely faboulous is Agnes' scene when she yells at David for being mean to her for no purpose. Isn't she great-great?! I really love the end of the ep when she again tries (and finally manages) to make him... well, show her a little piece of his heart (of course only referring to his feelings for Rich). And what I like best, she shows him a little piece too by telling him she would have dropped Rich at the terminal. Doing this, she shows him both that she likes him better than his brother and that she has understood that knowing that is important for him. Interesting enough, the last piece "you're gonna die wondering" was changed a bit in the german sync: there, she said something like "You just wait and see!" I'll sum up my fav quotes; sorry if some of them have already been mentioned, but it's late and today I didn't go through the whole thread. D: "Maddie, Maddie - you're losing your grip, and I've had no chance to sample it yet!" LOL M: "I did it again." D: "Did what? And would you once do it with me?" M: "Addison! This is full of money!" D: "And they say you're no detective." Agnes: "Mr. Addison, I'm confused!" D: "Found that out, huh? Darn, we tried to keep it from you as long as we could!" Agnes: "I'm not speaking to you." D: "Yes you are, I just heard you!" D: "You're a dead man!" Richie (checking his pulse): "Beg to differ with you, bro!" LMAO!!! They are brothers all right!! Or, as Maddie puts it: "What a couple of nincompoops!" D: "I really do love this guy. - How 'bout you?" M: "How about me what?" D: "Never mind." M (to his back): "I would have dropped him at the terminal." D: "Cross your heart?" (M does) D (beaming): "This ain't bad. You always this much futhis early in the morning?" M (not quite serious IMO): "You're gonna die wondering!"

Yes to SinceIfell...Charles Rocket did a fine job as Richie - he's rock n roll but with more roll than rock!
And yes, yes to Sandra (think we're on the same wave length). Reading your comments means I have less to make 'cause you've made most of them for me.
So here's some extra observations: Love, love the opening with Cybill/Maddie Bruce/David - it opens the second season with a full embrace of reflexivity (they kind of do it in season 1 but it really takes off and becomes like an extra character on the show from now on). You find yourself laughing before the episode has even got going - and doesn't Bruce look so much more relaxed here?
Who thinks that even if Caron doesn't want to do a Moonlighting Reunion, he should write another series that centres on reflexivity?! I'd watch it :-)
Oooh it's so eighties when the ep gets going - love it! Miami Vice style music and the robotic dancing from Richie's backing duo in 'Rich 'n' Thin' ;-)
A favourite moment of mine is when Maddie looks around her first before she phones the radio hotline to win the $4000 - like she's stooping so low - even though the rest of the office are doing the exact same thing. This is sooo beneath her ha.
Extra favourite lines: 'An enquiry... is case foreplay...' :-D and with ref to Richie 'Mom and Dad's science project.'
What a super episode - David really started to break my heart here (I must have been about 13)- that little face he pulls when M and R are dancing is just spot on! Love him. I agree some fabulous drama moments in this ep as well as the comedy - Moonlighting heaven.
Hey Maddie is actually on the phone to Glen - he's saying 'Whatever you do, don't fall for David's cute puppy dog look in this episode - we got another coupla seasons until he finds out if you're this much fun in the morning!' - oh and then obviously he puts Gray on :-)
See you around folks.
