Boy, if I had IBM as a teacher, maybe it wouldn't have taken me five years to finish college! What GREAT research. And presented in a superb way. (Yeah, I know teach....you ain't supposed to start a sentence with AND!) (And there ain't no word AIN'T!) I should be paddled.

Your opinion means a lot to me!! How lovely it is to get back home and read such kind (and funny! ;D) words! But I'm really in no position to teach anybody anything! I'm just a curious girl who loves English more than her native language and also loves to find answers to unsettled issues! And if and when I come up with a solution, my only wish is to share my knowledge with others. That's all! ;D Thanks again, dear! P.S. About "Read The Mind, See The Movie", I'm really curious (that word again!) to know your take on that laser gun! I've got a couple of unanswered questions buzzing in my head... P.P.S. I love "ain't" and start sentences with "and", too!! ;D

Hi IBM, loved reading your critique of Season 5 Writers. Great research! Wanted to add a point about Barbara Hall - writer of The Color of Maddie - if her credits ifor dramedy include Northern Exposure, then she was cutting her teeth on ML because Northern Exposure didn't air until after ML was finished. You may now resume your scheduled program.

Many thanks for the correction! Oh, and since we're discussing it, Barbara Hall wrote episode nr. 70 of the aforementioned series , which was entitled "Rosebud". It aired on November 8, 1993... After her third experience with dramedy (she wrote EKNM, too), she must've understood this genre was not her cup of tea, because she retreated into writing books for young adults (all out of print or unavailable, BTW)... It does nothing but add grist to the mill ! She was incapable to breathe life into dramedy indeed! But in the meantime the deed was done. Newhart aired on the CBS network from 1982 to 1990, instead. Anyhow, this lady came to the fore only in 2003 with her very own creature, "Joan of Arcadia", which is, from what I'm reading, a television fantasy/family drama whose main character is a teenager who sees and speaks with God... Weird... Whohoo! Out of the frying pan, into the fire! LOL!

Is it too late to jump in here? I LOVE all the dream analysis going on here! SO interesting!!!
However, given the poor writing in/quality of S5, IMO, they didn't put THAT much thought into it, and I think it's pretty likely that the writers, out of desperation, said to themselves, "Hey, off-beat and innovative dream sequences have worked really well for us before! Let's give it another try!" And they totally missed the mark -- I can't stand it. It's creepy (in a really bad way), too long, doesn't fit in all that well, and is just plain weird.
