Bees (Post 34):
I find it interesting that you were dissapointed in David in this episode. I actually thought he did a GREAT job and acted pretty much as I would have, given the same circumstances.

1. Why do you think David really wants to throw a wedding for Maddie?
I think to push her to the point where she would finally admit that the Walter deal was a complete charade, not for real. Deep down I don't think Dave thought there was any way in hell Maddie Hayes, THE Maddie Hayes, The Blue Moon Girl, would have married a Mook.

I was until the apt. scene. I guess my 25 or 26 yr. old heart at the time did not get it!! David had me thinking that he was indeed over Maddie........

2. Why do you think Maddie hasn't told her parents about Walter, like David guessed?
Heck, she couldn’t figure out a good way to let Dave know, trying to let her parents in on the game would have been even more difficult. She did NOT think this Walter thing through, and now she is stuck with either making do, or trying to UNDO it.
Maddie was NEVER spontaneous, and that's a good thing, because she STINKS at it. When she tries anyting unplanned...a date on the town....a joke about a duck....a marriage....it goes completely awry.

3. There is much argument on if Maddie lied about David not being the father of her baby, so in regards to her speech in the hospital, where she tells David she wishes with all her heart the baby inside her was his, does it make you believe she didn't lie then to David and really believes the baby is Sam's?
I gotta leave this one up to the fairer sex members of the board. I can’t believe that she would POSITIVELY know the kid wasn’t dear old Dave’s, considering the sequence of the Sam/Dave/Maddie trifecta. As mentioned in earlier posts, sometimes it appeared Maddie knew who the Pops was, then later not. From Sam, to maybe Dave, back to Sam....perhaps this was to tug at our own emotions, perhaps just a bad continuity check. I dunno.

[quote By golly YOU'RE RIGHT ON THE MONEY!!!! ;D GIMME A HIGH FIVE!! ;D8-) [/quote] ;D SMACK *FIVE* ;D You know I really never even considered the alternative - Maddie going through with it... but I never really considered him cruel for throwing the wedding... conniving and crafty maybe, but never cruel.

4. Why do you think Walter married Maddie? For one he just met her and he knew of all her baggage , such as David and the baby. He was a decent man, saw a lady in distress and did the thing he thought was right.
When it all blows up at the end , do you feel bad for him or feel like he should have known this would happen? He knew, I mean come on…Walter Bishop snagging the Blue Moon Girl? Not in a BILLION years. He had less of a chance than yours truly.

IBM: I got your back girl.
Dave is NOT the total bad actor here. Yeah, he pulled the wedding to have some fun at Maddie's expense, but he filled it with paid extras. If he wanted to embarass Maddie he would have filled it with her friends...or worse...called her PARENTS!!!
Dave was the catalyst to finally get Maddie to stop acting like a spoiled kid and face reality.

7. What do you believe David's perception of Walter is? Does his perception remain the same or does it change in the course of the episode? He thinks he’s a geek…hell, 40 million of us thought he was a geek. He thought he was either being PAID by Maddie to pull off the charade or just another pawn in Maddie’s battle against Dave. His impression DOES change when he realizes that Walter is indeed a decent guy and deserves a break, I think at the Bachelor Party. Inserting Emoticon just for Bees!:

4. Why did Walter marry Maddie?
I think that Wally really felt Maddie's pain as she related her story about David, the baby, her future. He wanted to cheer her up and get her mind off her troubles. He brought her hot chocolate and after Maddie's "true confessions", he suggested stopping in Vegas to have some fun. I get the impression that Walter was not a spontaneous, wild kinda guy, so this was pretty daring for him. She was a damsel in distress and he wanted to be her knight in shining armor. When Walter asked her if she wanted to gamble, I guess in hindsight, we could read different meanings into that question. I got the feeling that Walter suggested getting married on a whim, probably never thinking that Maddie would accept. I think he just wanted to make this sad, beautiful woman smile.
Do I feel sorry for him? Yes, in a way. He had no idea what he was getting in to.

But, if you were in Dave's shoes, would you have called Maddie's parents knowing what you and Mr. Hayes discussed on an airplane headed for Denver? But, yes, that would have really embarrased her!!

True, but it's interesting that once Maddie really is free-and-clear (in ATFWMW), David doesn't immediately start persuing her again. I think, for as much as they loved each other, they were both incredibly insecure. David was afraid he'd be hurt again (rightfully so), which is why he needed Maddie to take that next step in their relationship.
