OK, I just got a call that my sleep study has been moved from Tomorrow to Tonite, so I will join this discussion in progress, so to speak. I love this episode. It was the first one I ever saw...and you never forget your first. Here are some things I would like to know: 1. Maddie's hair in this episode was up, down and in between. Which do YOU like best? 2. Maddie didn't disagree with David's assessment of her pending night on the town probably being a snoozer. What kind of date DO you think she had lined up? 3. In the train cabin, Dave was getting pretty frisky with Miss H. He has her sit beside him, he closes the drapes, he turns down the lights....yet she doth not protest. Hmmm. Do you think if he had played his cards right he might have not had to wait until the end of Season Four for the big payoff??? 4. Dave tells Maddie his story of how he caused the great blackout of 1965, a story he has never told anyone before. Is this instance of him "opening up" significant in the development of their relationship? 5. Maddie says that her smile is her scar tissue and that she has seen her own share of "blocks". Do you believe her or is she just trying to make Agnes feel better? Do you think this is why she has her defenses up when it comes to David's charms at this point? 6. Ain't that a pretty damn big train for six people???

Gray, gray, gray...you're killing me! LOL Great great Qs. Great avatar. Let's get this train out of the station!
1. Maddie's hair - actually I like the up look that has been mussed a bit and is partially falling down. She looks good that way.

2. Maddie didn't disagree with David's assessment of her pending night on the town probably being a snoozer. What kind of date DO you think she had lined up? You know, I always took the look on Maddie's face as confirmation that David hit the nail on the head. She seemed annoyed at him because his description was accurate, but somehow he had a way of making the whole theater scene sound undesirable...sorta YUK!

I agree that Maddie did seem to succumb to David's pleas - "I'd do it for you...". BUT she does sit down with her back pretty stiff and somehow I think she would have freaked if he really made a move on her.

4. Dave tells Maddie his story of how he caused the great blackout of 1965, a story he has never told anyone before. Is this instance of him "opening up" significant in the development of their relationship? It's interesting that David specifically mentions this point. It makes me wonder if it indicates that he feels Maddie is special enough to want to share this moment of his youth OR does he just say this to make Maddie feel that she is special enough to share this "secret"? Hmmmm....genuine or motivated by his desire to cozy up to Maddie?

I believe Maddie. I bet she has come across her share of creeps in her line of work and is pretty wary of men in general.

6. Ain't that a pretty damn big train for six people??? Yeah, it's pretty damn big, gray. LOL I guess we can chalk it up to the excesses of the '80s!

Great Q's Gray and a very funny avatar!!
1. Maddie's hair in this episode was up, down and in between. Which do YOU like best?
I have always loved the swept up look on MAddie, but I really like her hair down and clipped back in the beginning of the episode.
Heck, she could not do anything with it for days and still look gorgeous!!

I agree with Lin. She knew David nailed it and that really annoyed her.
But, I think she liked the fact that someone was taking her out to the theater simply to impress her, only she knew that the guy was probably just going to be a one time date kind of guy.

Do you think if he had played his cards right he might have not had to wait until the end of Season Four for the big payoff???I just love that whole scene from start to finish!! The looks on Maddie's face are really funny and really shows off Cybill's ability to play scenes out like this one. I don't think he would have even gotten to first base, however, that night. This is not to say that Maddie was not slightly interested or curious. But, a lady like Maddie Hayes has to be wooed and schmooed....as David finds out.

Nope. It was David stalling big time to keep Maddie on that train so she would miss her date!! I do believe his story though!! Totally sounds like something that would happen to him as a kid. I love how he talks about his Mom as well, and really wish we could have met her like we did his Dad.

Maybe a little of both. But, I do believe she has had her fair share of relationships where she was completely put off or let down by certain men while in the modeling profession.
As far as putting up her defenses against David's charms...well, we see that many times now don't we??.....I don't think she has ever known a man like David and this scares her, excites her and in turn makes her want to run!

6. Ain't that a pretty damn big train for six people???LOL!! ;D I like the part where they are on top of the train. Maddie shows her wits and spirit when she follows David out the window! Reminds me of the clock tower. Question: Was that David's gun? and Did anyone think about "Tracks..." when they were running through the train? I don't know...I just kept thinking Walter was going to step in some mashed potatoes!!! ;D It's quiet here tonight. Sorry I was late, but I was at the Texas Rough Riders baseball game. That's one of the places where they get the Rangers ready to beat the Phillies in the World Series one day!! ...whatever!!

I'd like to jump in earlier than usual. I love this episode and to me, it seems to be easier than some later tough episodes to answer. And thanks for the pretty good Questions, Gray! 1. Maddie's hair in this episode was up, down and in between. Which do YOU like best?I have always loved her hair being up, especially when she is dressed in like that. She looks really gorgeous! I suppose that Davidfs heart must be pounding when he looks at her, he doesn't express it though. 2. Maddie didn't disagree with David's assessment of her pending night on the town probably being a snoozer. What kind of date DO you think she had lined up?I agree and guess that her date is one of NSMs, going to theater and probably have a dinnerc but home before midnight, kind of unexciting.

I always felt there would have been lots of chances for David before Samcif he'd tried seriously especially later in Season2. But I think this is too early episode for both of them to realize the true feelings for each other. But IMHO, that David trying to drag Maddie into such a situation seems like his strategy not to let her go on a date and his hidden desire to be closer to her.
