5. I know I am predictable…..what is your favorite quotable quote? Something that I was really suprised that made it through the censors( but now that diane posted the little cut scene with censor alert written all over it I think maybe that was a decoy ) paraphrasing here: "Your head doth swelleth" "Aye and quite proudly" And of course when Kate says something like: "I've never knowneth a man who did not suffereth from pianist envy" ;

Gray---somehow I just KNEW you would pick that as your avatar! Well done, my friend! ;D
Great Q's diane. This was not an easy one to do for all of us essed analyzers!!
This is just a great episode, imo, and has all of the things in it that I think we all love about ML!!
And I just have to say...Cybill was great in this!! That first scene where she enters throwing suitors around and then the first close up with the blue dress....anybody notice how blue her eyes were?!?! Gray???
Drop dead gorgeous!! And she was just great great!!

There are times her eyes really DO get blue! I just get lost in them.
Boy, I hope Cybill doesn't look at all my goofy avatars and think I'm some kind of nutty stalker.
I'm not nutty at all!!!

And love how his voice softens a little in the scene with P/K in bed, and in the final scene, when he looks at Kate....am fanning myself right now....

Hey all! 2. How do you like the title? What do you think it means? I guess it was a fine title, I guess that they obviously couldnt use the original play title ,but maybe it could have been altered somehow. Maybe the title they choose meant they were exaggerating the play in a way cause it is overly funny. JMO

4. How did you like the little touches that linked the story to everyday Blue Moon life? Which was your favorite link? My absolute favorite is the doorway to Petruchio's......done exactly like the door to Blue Moon. I also love how Bert's character is still fascinated with David's Petruchio. Much like Bert and David at Blue Moon.

Well, if she ever does take a look at this place I am sure it will make her day that a non-nutty stalker has such a crush on her! In fact, you are probably making brownie points with her and don't even know it!! ....and I bet this place would make her laugh too!!...a lot!! ;D

I obviously didn't do the rewatching this week, but I thought I'd offer a few thoughts, on account of I'm kind of bored at the moment...
1. Is Atomic Shakespeare a “Maddie and David” story? Do the characterizations ring true? Do we learn things in any prior or subsequent episodes that show up in the teleplay?
ML is an obvious battle-of-the-sexes show, and The Taming of the Shrew has that inherent quality to it, too. But the theme of the play--and the theme of "Atomic Shakespeare"--is that of equality. Petruchio/Dave initially doesn't respect Kate/Maddie's feelings, preferring her to stay in her place--sexism at its best...er, worse. That, to me, is an issue that "normal" episodes of ML never much dealt with. I mean, there is an implied sense of David being the superior detective, but I think their business relationship was all about teamwork and recognizing each other's strengths and weaknesses; it was a pretty equal partnership. The battle-of-the-sexes stuff was usually less about defined gender roles, and more about differing views of romance ("The Next Murder You Hear", "Yours, Very Deadly"), morality ("Witness for the Execution", "All Creatures Great...and Not So Great"), and sex/relationships ("The Bride of Tupperman", "Funeral for a Doornail"). The show mainly explored different attitudes about life in general, not about the perceived superiority of one sex over the other.
To me, the only other episode that really dealt with sexism, per se, is "The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice"--which is just another fantasy episode.
5. I know I am predictable…..what is your favorite quotable quote?
I love all the quotes mentioned, of course, but this one in particular always makes me smile: "Yay, verily, we are married merrily...though at first warily...and unfortunately quite sterilely."

Maybe she will come for a world premiere of that movie she filmed here in Harrisburg and I can at at least give her a wave!

I've posted pics on this site before, but this is my first time commenting on an episode, (I'm dipping my toe in the water, so to speak) Anyway, in my opinion the entire script of Atomic Shakespeare is quotable. There are so many great lines. it's hard to pick one favorite. Incidentally, is there anyone else out there who gets a charge out of Petruchio's mini-striptease? I loved how he ripped off his gloves, one by one, and tossed them aside , strutting toward Kate with such masculine grace (and no, I don't think that's an oxymoron. ) that it was hard to believe she didn't give it up right there. Bruce was at his absolute coolest and sexiest here. (Does anyone know if that strip was in the script or if Bruce just adlibbed that bit?) It has to be the best male striptease hands down since Clark Gable's famous one in IT HAPPENED ONE NIGHT. Gable singlehandled almost ruined the undershirt business when his character revealed he wasn't wearing one while showing Claudette Coblert how a man undresses. It was so good, they gave him the Oscar that year.

That is a great scene, but I would be quite surprised if it was improvised. Even though sometimes the pages were very late, Glenn and all the principal players have said on many occasions that the show was carefully scripted.
In fact, I think in one of the DVD commentaries, Bruce comments on understanding how carefully crafted the languiage and cadence of the scripts were........and admitted to making a call to Glenn when it looked like people were trying to do adjustments on the set.
In reading many of the scripts, there are some additions and deletions, but both the language and stage directions of what aired are pretty much spot on.

OMG, such a funny episode. I LMAO all the time! Such congenial writing! Ever heard of overlapping dialogue in iambic pentameter?! Frankly, I don't wanna analyze this, I just enjoyed it. The music was great to, the renaissance band playing "Why do birds suddenly appear everytime you are near?..."
The allusions to the ML present, the entrance of "Petruchio's", just like Blue Moon's, the door slamming - "Methinks that soundeth familiar!"; Kate's dry spoken "What are you? Certainly not a singer!"
The only thing I didn't like was Petruchio's hair - yuck!! I like the receding hairline much, much better! Made me wanna ask "What the hell happeneth to your hair?!"
I'm afraid I'll have to watch this one again and again and again to get only half of the jokes!
M/K: "Goest thou to hell!"
D/P: "You didn't think I could pull it off, did ya?!"
D/P: "Pray, sir, yea sir, I daresay I did say!" B/L: "Yea sir, you do say you did say?" D/P: "Yea, I say. But why do you bray?"
B/L: "Wouldst thou be interested?" D/P: "Wouldst?! Doth bears beareth? Doth bees beeth?" B/L: "Sayeth what?" D/P: "Hell, yes!"
D/P: "If you're a man, you gotta love the sixteenth century!"
D/P: "May I come in?" M/K: "You may, if it matters not to you what cometh to your head!" D/P: "It matters not, as being here proves I've lost it already!"
M/K: "Let go! Unhand me!" D/P: "I'll try, but I don't think they'll come off!"
D/P: "You think that was fun? Wait till I get you home!"
D/P: "This may be the cleaning woman's century off!"
D/P/M/K: "Understandeth? Fine!"
D/P: "Forty teenagers arested at the Bach concert! 'Tis said, if thou playest the secondo concerto backwards, thou hearest the voice of satan!"

I'm not going to say too much on this one either...hint hint...I might be writing about it in more detail on a different flavour of thread! It is sooooo funny, so clever and just pure entertaining! For the record: Bruce is still drop dead gorgeous in a silly curly wig! ;-)
