Another beautiful choice, Sandra! Especially love this part: ' I so love how she declares her feelings – of course, in codes. She doesn't want to let him go, and even when she understands that there's no other possibility at the moment, she desperately doesn't want to let go of him. So sweet, her despair, and his obviously pleased reaction to it.' They are both so adorable when they are desperate! They even start expressing their feelings openly, of course they'll deny them later anyway. I think that's why we value these moments of beautiful desperation even more! Enjoyed your description, your love to this scene is seen in every word!

Thanks for your kind comments so far, Goldie - I had a feeling you'd appreciate that I see the latter as a particular Maddie-scene. Strange enough, this thought hit me when I was re-watching. Astounding that we discover new sides all the time. Keeps this show fresh for us.

Here come my first two, I'll start with # 10 and count down to # 1.
# 10 “You are mad because he boinked a couple of hausfraus?!”
The boinking banter (“The Next Murder You Hear”)
If this episode is the one where Moonlighting became Moonlighting, where David and Maddie really started to be David and Maddie (I believe that which is why I put that epi on my top 6 list), this scene is the essence, the concentrate of this episode. It shows us an intimate glimpse on Maddie's life through David's eyes. This fabulous banter is one of the funniest car conversations ever, and the first of the real classic ones IMO. It gave us the 'essedness and the boinking, precious linguistic gems.
I love how David gets to Maddie when he accuses her of being stiff and tense whenever men and sex are involved, and she gets so mad – I love it how she presses through clenched teeth “Only you make me stiff and tense” and that venomous look she gives him – at the same time admitting how he is already able to get to her, and of course trying to deny it at the same time. Of course, he is not the only person in her life – there are plenty of them, puh-lenty!!
Sandra, awesome choice! It almost made my list! ;D That scene is hilarious! Boink, boink, boink...boink, boink, boink!!! Get out of my car! Love it. It was on the long list, and you know how hard it is to narrow that down to only 10. Looking forward to the rest of your list!

About the garage... What about the garage? Well I hear, blondie, that Sandra knows all about the garage: inside and out. Inside and out? Oh yeah baby- word has it she got us sussed, figured, nailed and any other example of those 'ed' words. What are we gonna do? Do? Do! Well it's about time it all came out in the wash- always knew it was you lady who called all the shots in this one. Without you I'd have already left, without you I would never have known I smelled awful and without you there would have been no kiss. What kiss?
Thanks for your wonderful observations on this one Sandra- pleasure to read xxx

I am totally going to break a rule, and hope that anarchy will not ensue. I am sitting here, working on a project, and have season 4 running in the background, "Father Knows Last", to be specific....and I realized I left out one of my absolutely favorite scenes. Have no idea where my head was. So, I am adding it....and you have my permission to drop any one (well almost any one) of my top ten from my list. I have a special affinity for the scene in "Father Knows Last", when Maddie's father returns from seeing David, and goes into her room to check on her.....it is a split second, a moment in time, but it completely tugs on my heart strings. For most of my childhood, my dad was a night worker, going in at about 3 in the afternoon, and coming home in the wee hours of the morning. He also worked weekends (he was a pressman for the city newspaper). There were lots of times that we didn't see him, or he didn't see us awake for a few days at a time. He got into the habit of coming in from work, and going to each room, checking on us in our sleep (there were 6 of us...that's a bit of checking!). He couldn't sleep until he was sure we were sleeping and safe. The simple gesture that Mr. Hayes makes checking on his sleeping daughter always brings tears to my eyes. The unspoken love in those small moments is one of the things that could be easily ignored, but that makes ML the masterpiece that it is. I'm so sorry I forgot. That scene makes me miss my Dad, and appreciate what being a father really means.

Diane,
seems like we share an experience here. My dad worked at restaurants for all his working life which means - never home in the evenings, in the mornings when we got up neither because he needed his sleep, no weekends - he had to work - no festive days - he had to work. One day off a week which was during the week when we had to go to school - so I saw pretty little of my dad too. I understand you all too well. I'm sure no one minds you adding another scene; we all like to share personal experiences.
I'll post my next pick now, doing it from mom's pc, so no copy & paste but just spontaneous rambling. I hope no one minds. In a few hours, I will go on with my list from home - sorry again for the multiple posts which I know we weren't supposed to do, but I have no other possibility. So.
# 7 "I hate you, David Addison!" - "I know. I hate you too, Maddie Hayes. I've always hated you."
The trunk scene ("Maddie's Turn To Cry")
Another pick from one of my top 6 epis, but I didn't want to make it a rule to exclude scenes from top 6 epis; that would somehow have falsified my list. Why do I love this scene?
Because it brings, after so much emotional havoc, after so much chaos and pain, quiet, peace of mind and happiness (at least for a bit, that is) to our couple and to us. The whole whirlwind of things going on, the whole world is shut outside that apartment door, and everything has become unimportant, insignificant except for the two of them and their feelings for each other that are expressed in this scene for the first time - no escape, no denial, no avoidance. Well, that I hate you code again, yes. But I can't repeat it too often - all the same, if this is not a clear and unmistakable declaration of love, I never have heard one. And Madde and David see it that way too, that is and will forever be my utter conviction.
The tenderness, the light, the unmade-up beauty of both Maddie and David, the mutual confession of their feelings - all wonderful, yes. I won't describe it more closely, it has been done wonderfully by those of my predecessors who have chosen this scene.
I chose it because it gives me happiness, peace of mind and the hope that now finally, finally all is well. Oh, silly me.

Not 'silly you' Sandra - 'good for you' lol. This scene is how they really felt before it all got over complicated. We all know that's how they really felt - right to the end of season 5. Or is that the hopeless romantic in me?
Diane - I enjoyed your story and it made me a bit teary. My dad was around but chose not to be. Different dads/different worlds :-) xxx

Sandra:: what a beautiful description, dear! I always loved this scene for all those reasons you've mentioned. But yes, what makes the scene so special is this natural plain beauty of them both, of the place, of their feelings to each other!
Diane: so glad you've added this scene to your list! This father/daughter moment makes me breathless, maybe because I've always been a daddy's girl. Adorable. Your story touched me too...thank you for sharing!

# 6 “Are you and mom having a fight? Are you gonna leave us?” - “I hope not.”
“I'm glad you're my partner, partner” (“The Lady In The Iron Mask”)
I love this scene, because we see Maddie and David both showing their best sides, not to mention Agnes (the latter literally declaring Blue Moon as a family with Maddie and David as the leading couple, unknowingly letting show the wisdom of her heart). They had a nasty fight where Maddie hinted once again that she'd be much better off without him. Sure, she regretted her words the moment they were out, and she knew she hurt him.
David shows greatness: he is ready to apologize although there's nothing he needs to apologize for, not this time. Maddie shows greatness: she knows she's made a mistake, and she's ready to admit it and to say sorry. She comes to him and says it straight away, looking him right in the eyes: “I'm sorry for all the things I've done, all the things I've said. I never had a man put on a dress for me. I'm sorry, partner.” That is backbone, absolutely adorable! And she admits he is already special to her: because she wants to be “the one to throw that first clump o'dirt on your coffin”.
Adorable his attitude too: he makes it easy for her and at the same time he doesn't – when she apologizes, he tells her immediately: “You're forgiven, partner.” But his body language tells her at the same time you didn't treat me right, and you better don't do that again! That is backbone, too! He sits there leaned back on his couch and doesn't move a single inch into her direction to meet her halfway; when she comes to kiss him on the cheek to underline her apology, she has to go all the way down to him. But she passes the test, and she passes it well. His pleased smirk in the final shot tells everything.
I love Maddie's patting of Agnes's arm when she leaves - it's gonna be allright, kid. But my absolute favorite moment is that little, almost undetectable nod David gives Agnes to tell her it's OK if she leaves - I dunno why, but it knocks me off my feet. How does he do that?

Thanks for the support, guys! I am having a sentimental Saturday -- it is raining buckets, and I am watching season 4 and 5.
So between the sweet and the sad scenes, the sky is crying, I am crying......having a bittersweet day.
Thanks for the kind words.
And Sandra....good start......I am saving my applause till the end!

Diane, from what I hear it looks like there's a lot of UMS going around (and I mean the first meaning). Try to cheer up.
# 5 “A sexist! Do you know what a sexist is?” - “Of course I know what a sexist is! I'm looking at one!” - “So am I!”
The sexiest sexist banter (“The Dream Sequence Always Rings Twice”)
OK, another scene from a top 6 epi. Well, I don't wanna cheat. This is another classic. And, just as the boinking banter, this legendary car conversation narrows the whole brilliant episode down to its essence – a battle of the sexes.
I'm sorry, but the way Maddie thinks about the Flamingo Cove murder is a sexist way. Common sense? No. But I'm sure she might have reconsidered it if David had presented his case differently than: “You look at a situation like someone appointed you guardian for your whole damn sex!”
Of course it drives her mad, even if this time, that hadn't been his intention; he looks like he's really upset by her attitude: “You just accused a man of murder. Of murder, Maddie! Based on what? Based on the fact he was a man!” Sidenote: I love how David talks with his hands in this conversation.
I love it how Maddie's voice is shaky when she's defending herself, this is brilliantly delivered by Cybill. And when they discuss it further, suddenly they switch, without noticing, discussing real life. How disappointed Maddie is when she states: “You're an animal.”
And, as so often, when she is lacking in arguments, Maddie puts up her I-am-not-having-this-conversation-attitude: “Not another word, not another sound, not another peep until we get back to the office!!” - “Peep!” Hysterical!!
I love that scene because it is fast, funny, acted with the passion it deserves, and last but not least – soooo sexy. I know I'm cheating, but it wouldn't be complete without including the – let's call it – epilogue in the office with the classic line: “Not only are you a sexist, but you are the sexiest sexist that has ever been in my good fortune to scrutinize, satirize, fantasize – etcetera, etcetera, etcetera!” And I dunno why, but the way he delivers this line makes my toes curl. Must be something in his... voice. Nuff said.
