1987, Great great job! Loved your "Next Stop Murder" pick and "I am Curious...David." And regarding the "Sam & Dave" dinner..I'm so in sympathy with you here:
I still watch the dinner scene and think there could be a different outcome: He could tell her how he feels, his card could work, he actually went to an Ivy League School too!!
I feel that way about the end of "Tracks" too...every time I'm just hoping, hoping, hoping that THIS time it'll be different...the definition of insanity, no? ;D

bees, I guess you could call me a "fair weather" O's fan. It has been hard for quite a few years - their record has been less than stellar. Things haven't been quite the same since Cal Ripkin. That said, things are looking much better for this season, so I will be cheering right along with all the B'moreans. Now, when it comes to football season, I am a diehard purple-wearing RAVEN!

Just want to throw in don't you all wish GLenn could see how much this TV show means to people all these years later? If i was a creator i'd be so touched to read these words from everyone! Yes Rose, and not to mention the new bondy & friendships that were created through this awesome creation of his! Thanks, Glenn! I wish there was a like button on here....LOL...like like like.

lin and 1987, you each have your own gift for weaving!
lin, you have dialogue deftly woven into the commentary for your scenes--all in the right places! I also love that you chose the scene in Maddie's bedroom from "Witness . . . . " I believe that this scene may hold more significance than the garage scene, only because it sets the stage for the latter's intensity. It also captures Bruce's finest work up to that point. To see David like a deer in headlights, afraid for his life, is incredibly powerful; as is Maddie, aching to comfort and protect him the way he has so many times for her.
1987, you have personal experiences and memories woven into the commentary for your list. I love, love, love that you made "Clickety clock as the train cut through the twilight" part of your list. I still get in hysterics when Agnes looks up at the ceiling and asks reverently, "Grandma?" The entire episode is great in that it shows so early on how this threesome is becoming family.

5. Next Stop Murder – Bed in the wall scene. In my opinion, this is the pinnacle of Bruce and Cybill comedy. Today when I watch Bruce and Cybill act I long for wild, energetic, frenetic performances from them. I long to see Cybill go maniacal again. I watch her today on the edge of my seat hoping she will be written to unleash into a rant - yelling and shrieking so beautifully again. And for 20+ years I have watched Bruce for a glimpse of the zany, goofy, charm he brought to David Addison. I do love him so but I admittedly get frustrated with the calm, controlled, tough guy demeanor. Is there a button for "Amen to that, sister!"? Fantastic picks, 1987, particularly the confrontation after the proposal, which is one of my favourites too... though not on my list, doh!

My turn! My turn! 1. Pilot "I've had TV cameras, microphones--not to mention the likes of you--poked in my face." Here we get a glimpse of Cybill's gift for wry humor. She hungered for a comedic role like this and was ready for it. I believe she had Maddie at "Hello," and the scene at her doorway exemplifies that. But Maddie doesn't have the floor for long because--par for the course--David is there to steal her thunder with a smarmy, wise-ass reply to her monologue: "Y'know, I respect you so much for telling me that." The comment basically nullifies their previous conversation, in which David tries to melt the ice queen by apologizing for his insensitive behavior. 2. Read the Mind--See the Movie "But I don't believe in ever going back . . . to anything." Here's Maddie, workin' the girlish charm on Preston Holt--and on all of us. I love moments like this, because we get to see what a special person she is. Maddie is trying to forge a new identity and leave the safety nets behind, no matter how treacherous the road ahead looks. She's not aware of it yet, but a different, stronger safety net is being woven, and it will be there every time a need arises. After her confession to Holt that she considered falling back into the old life, Maddie sits up straight, tall, and delivers that line with fierce determination in her eyes. While Holt is indeed charmed and flattered by her, he also senses an agenda and wants to help her in her new role of private detective. After all, he has his own agenda and a reputation to uphold. This is not a scene I watch repeatedly, but it definitely stays with me. 3. The Lady in the Iron Mask "First clump o' dirt on your coffin, I wanna be the one to throw it" I've mentioned this before, but what I marvel at is David's willingness to make amends, even though he really has nothing to apologize for; except perhaps letting his ego run amok. But he hasn't quite figured out the approach, so he reaches out to Agnes as their middleman, not as a secretary with excellent dictation skills. By the time good ol' Agnes begins working her magic, Maddie is in his doorway, so smoldering she could have set that door aflame. The way David looks at her, you can tell he's trying to read her mind and is taken aback at the same time. When Maddie says that line, we know two things: that his words resonate with her; and that she's thinking about what it would be like to hold that prominent spot in his life. But her opening line "What are we gonna do?" suggests she's also thinking "How do we get there--to that place?" An apology like that is definitely a step in the right direction. 4. My Fair David "You are who you are, and I am who I am . . . and the only solution is dissolution." And never the twain shall meet. It's difficult to pinpoint exactly what I dig about this scene, because it's so densely packed with things to dig. Bruce described it well in the commentary, that it's the essence of Moonlighting . . . so irrational; Maddie's completely right, David's completely wrong; and still, we're paying attention. It is eight minutes of overlapping, rapid-fire dialogue, crackling chemistry, comedic prowess, and David and Maddie challenging each other as always. The actors make it look so easy and yet, you can't imagine how long this 8 minutes of film took to shoot, despite the fact that they learned the material so quickly. It's pure brilliance. Well, I'll have to leave you a bit in suspense; it's been a long day, so I must away as I am off to . . . sleep.

Wow, great picks Witness! Especially loved your description of the 'But I don't believe in ever going back . . . to anything ' scene. It is such an ordinary scene, but yes, Maddie's girlish charm does work every time, and not only on Preston Holt I am looking forward for the rest of your list!

5. Atlas Belched "Is that what the past 10 months have been about? Just business?"
The fact that each of them, especially David, has such a keen awareness of how long they have been in each other's lives speaks volumes. It demonstrates the impact their partnership and friendship has had on him. When he says the line, David has his signature pained expression, the gut-punch look. And we can see from Maddie's expression that she is caught by surprise with this revelation of his feelings. It's poignant because clearly Maddie is not on the same page; she's in another chapter, perhaps even a different book entirely. I knew I had to choose a scene from this episode, but thought I would stray from the no-brainer. What I've discovered is that for me, nearly every scene in "Atlas Belched" is a no-brainer.
6.Every Daughter's Father is a Virgin "Miss me?" "Sure. Your name again?"
David looks at her tenderly, taking all of her in with that deep breath. Maddie rises almost to her tiptoes as her body leans in close to his. She amuses him with her sweet brand of humor. If only he could hold her in his gaze, in his breath and forestall the inevitable; but the moment is short-lived and the looming question is upon him. "So?" His answer means Maddie's lost innocence, something David wishes he could preserve. It's truly amazing how a scene that appears this simple can actually be very layered and complex.

Two stunners again.
She's on another page, in another chapter, maybe even in a different book - great images, and so well put.

Great picks Witness - I love your takes on the scenes and how you demonstrate Cybill's very natural wit- she's awesome. Love the funny/serious balance- and you have chosen some wonderful foreplay scenes that smoulder away at our greedy noggin's. You cut straight to the quick my clever friend xx
