What do you think Maddie would have done if she'd gotten her money back? Would she really have closed Blue Moon and returned to her former life?
I don't think she could have done it. By this point I think she was having a good time (although she'd never admit it). I bet she'd have gotten out of debt, gone shopping, and then put any left over money back into the business.

Oooh, no way would she have gone back to her old life. Remember how bored she was when she had that opportunity in Atlas Beltched? Though I have to say, eating, sleeping and shopping sounds like a pretty sound deal to me.
She says she hates that life, but she's hot headed and she says something similar in The Lady in the Iron Mask, and then regrets it later. At the time, maybe she thinks she hates it, but she realises later that she didn't know what she had til it was gone.
I think if she had gotten her money back, maybe she would have tried to go back to her old life, but she wouldn't close down Blue Moon, and she probably would have come back after a good shopping spree, like you said.

I don't know for sure what Maddie would have done. She might have been able to not have to work at Blue Moon and still own it. But at that time I don't think it was making a profit, so she might seriously have shut it down.

Hmm. Difficult question. If she'd got her money back, I think she would have been seriously tempted to go back to her old life. Not sure how long it would have lasted, as David had got under her skin by this time, even if she didn't admit it too much. She was still hankering after this "wonderful" old life she'd had, but the reality was that she wasn't really 'living' before she met David... What was it he said "you need me to live!!"

She might have gone back to her own life, but Mulberry is right—David would have found a way to get to her. He would have found excuses to see her, would have been trying to get her involved in the business in some way. And while she might have made gestures of protestation and attempted to reject him, she ultimately would not have resisted him. He is way too much fun!

Good question, but I think it depends on how much she would get back.
Winning the poker game at the end of the episode would have resulted in only a small percentage of her lost fortune. Granted, 200K in the 80s is worth more than it is now, it would not have allowed her to return to her formal life of luxury.
I think she would have pondered exactly what to do with that cash...and would have determined the best thing to do with it would be to continue to fund her only asset...the detective agency.
If she got ALL of her money back....well that's a question that I don't have an answer to. I think she would have offered to sell the agency to David, but of course he would not have been able to afford it.

I beg to differ, gray... I think she would have kept the agency even if she got all her money back. Maybe she would have tried to get back to her old life, but after awhile she'd have found it boring.
Like Gem said - she had that opportunity in "Atlas belched", and after 1 day she knew already she'd made a mistake. Trying to get back to her old life - without Blue Moon and without David around - she would have realized pretty soon that her old life was actually empty.

I absolutely love this topic. Even when Maddie and David are discussing joining the poker game, and she talks about each of them going their separate ways, David asks, "That's what you really want, isn't it?" As she answers, "It sure is," there seems to be a flicker of doubt on her face, as though David is not the only one she's trying to convince. I think the doubt registers with him, but he's already developed a habit of trying to secure Maddie's happiness; thus, he goes along with it. Her doubt is painfully obvious as the game gets under way, but it's already on, so they can't back out just yet. As far as going back to her charmed life, Maddie had nothing to compare it with back then. Now she knows what it's like to have people depending on her, to strive for a successful business, to have a partner who keeps her on her toes and DOES look out for her. I believe with some moolah she would just take a time out, reflect, contemplate, and make a list of pros and cons . Then perhaps show up in David's doorway by surprise and in typical sultry, seductive fashion say, "Hey, partner."

And I think he knew she would come to a reason sooner or later. He was able to read her as a book by then already, right?
