I just recently watched It's a Wonderful Job, and does anybody else think that the staff at Blue Moon are incredibly rude?! Who on earth would talk to thier boss like that?! If I were Maddie, I'd fire them all (except for Agnes) on the spot - it's not like they do anything anyway! Maybe it's the teacher side of me, and I know the situation is exaggerated to make us feel the extent of Maddie's unhappiness, but they really infuriate me. Maddie's genuinly sorry that they have to work Christmas and she expresses that to them and her speech is really sweet, she's obviously sorry and it's not like she's doing it just to be mean. And David should have lamped MacGillicudy for the way he spoke to Maddie.
But I do really like Agnes' rhyme on the phone where she calls Maddie The Grinch! That's really funny.

I really don't remember this episode(unlike you, I don't have all the episodes on tape!) but my feeling is just the opposite. In the first two series, I feel that Maddie is really rude to everyone, especially Agnes. Whenever she comes in in a bad mood, she doesn't greet Agnes even when Agnes greets her, and she often slams the door. I know that the slamming of doors was part of the relationship between David and Maddie but I often thought she was just plain rude!

Yes, it's sad. When they're in the lift and Albert is telling her this is her last chance - she's so stubborn! It's really sad when she's looking at herself in the bar though, and then in the car, it's quite scary too. She looks really pretty in that pink dress though. I love the flashbacks at the end. I really think this is a great episode.
I did feel that Maddie could be a bit abrupt towards the staff in earlier episodes, I guess at that point she did think that she was better than them and she was taking a step backwards (I think she says something similar in another episode) by going to work there. I think she has trouble adapting to being boss of all those people and she doesn't really know how to behave with them, where to draw the line between being their boss and being their friend. But I still feel bad for her in this episode and that MacGillicudy in particular is way out of line.
