Hey Everyone-
Is there an episode of Moonlighting that's a musical? I thought I saw something about a musical and that it was a groundbreaking episode.
Thanks to anyone that can answer:)

Hi Ashton,
Yes, it's from Season 3 - Big Man on Mulberry Street. It's not a musical. But there is a dream sequence where Maddie dreams of what David's life was when he was married and in New York. He dances with a then famous dancer, Sandall Bergman in a bar. Then Maddie comes in and dances with him at the end. It's really cool - and yes, groundbreaking back then. The big picture of the two of them on the cover of the dvd insert booklet is from that dance sequence. They did do some other musical numbers in later episodes - but this is what you're speaking of.

Ohhhhhhh! I saw that episode yesterday(I also have it ) It's so great to see when David is dancing with Maddie(and when they kiss.....) My favourite part is when Maddie follows david to NY,and he finds her on the room in the Hotel. It's so great(I was going to ) How about you? Sakura_Star1 (Who feels sad in inside?)

If you go to davidandmaddie.com/site-map.htm you will find a listing of all the videos available on the site. One of them is for the dance sequence from "Big Man on Mulberry Street." It's fabulous. The video is lower-res (for bandwidth concerns, I am sure), but you can get the gist of it. Also, you can access the video directly here. I should also add that the sequence was directed by Stanley Donen, who was known for his Hollywood musical movies from the '50s. (He did Singin' in the Rain! Singin' in the RAIN!!!) I remember when this episode first aired, a big deal was made about Donen being called to direct that portion of it. It seemed like Moonlighting made a habit of paying homages to old movies, hiring people who were famous for certain cinematic techniques (like the guy they got to do the film noir portions of "Dream Sequence"?) famous in the past. I always loved Moonlighting for this—it got extra "coolness" points from me.

Man, I just love that dance sequence. And the 'circle of Dave's' sequence is soooo cool! They really put a chunk of money into this episode. Thanks for posting that link, Elvira. I haven't checked out the site enough to know that there was this video. I have the ep. But it's still nice to just click and view. I love how Maddie wakes up, and instantly dials for the next flight to NY. Think she's desperate....well, maybe 'wanton' is the word - after that dream. *VBEG*

Glad you liked the link, bluemoongirl! I love this site. The videos are a treasure. I went for a while there where I watched the video clips for "Big Man on Mulberry Street" and "Good Lovin'" ("Atomic Shakespeare") regularly. They were an instant pick me up. You can't help but smile after viewing "Good Lovin'"!
I love that dance sequence. It's obvious that Bruce Willis isn't ever going to be a great dancer, but they worked around his shortcomings in that area pretty well, so it all comes together great. The "Circle of Daves" part is pretty cool too. That whole sequence had a very fresh, contemporary (yet vintage) feel about it. It doesn't get old or stale over the years. It looks like Stanley Donen's career was fizzling out during the '80s (he only did one other movie, in 1999, after he directed "Big Man"). Perhaps that was his choice, to retire or something. But he obviously had some great talent.

I remember during the years that this show ran, being so upset when one didn't air the next week, or two, or 10 weeks - during the writer's strike. But let's not go there. Anyhoo...now, I appreciate each one so much more because they took their time. However many days it took to shoot an episode, edit, and get it on the air. Almost all of the first 3 seasons episodes are gems for one reason or another. They put out a great product that stands up 20 years later. I LOVE THIS SHOW! ;D

I LOVE this episode, obviously!! I asked Bruce (at BW.com) about how he felt dancing in this episode, and he reckoned he was the worst dancer in the episode, but he loved working with Stanley Donen and Sandahl Bergman. I think although Bruce isn't a dancer, he does have a great natural sense of rhythm (from being a musician I guess) and was brilliant in this, looking as if he was enjoying himself at some points!
Gotta say that Cybill looked wonderful in this scene too...she REALLY takes charge in that kiss doesn't she!! :-) ;-) Wow!
